Cut out the middleman. Go straight to the source.Pros: Sure, Mediterra sells their bread by the loading docks of their bakery. Sure, they are located in a business park. But when you can buy bread that literally just came out of the oven, or croissants, pastries, muffins, and scones that were just made an hour ago, you've got to come here. They will even slice your bread if you ask, which is service that goes above and beyond. Cons: You will not be blown away by the ambiance. The bread is sold literally in the entrance way of the business. You may be parking next to an 18-wheelers loading or unloading. But who cares, their bread is awesome!Summary: Mediterra has quickly become my favorite bakery on the west side of Pittsburgh.

I stop at the Mediterra tent every Saturday at the Bloomfield Farmers Market. I have been purchasing the whole wheat sourdough bread there for years. I seriously love everything about their bread! You can taste the quality. The whole wheat sourdough is a great healthy option. I slice it as soon as I get home and then keep it in the freezer for toast. I always keep a few slices out to use right away (it's best when it's fresh)! I've also tried their red fife bread that is super hearty and delicious, and sprouted spelt bread that has millet and flax seed in it. Any time I cut up their bread to put with a dip for a party or toast for crostinis, it is a hit! My most recent obsession is their hazelnut chocolate biscotti. I am a biscotti snob, and these are seriously the best I've ever had. They are very hard (great for dunking) and packed full of real hazelnuts. I make sure to get a bag of biscotti ends every week for $3. I highly recommend trying them if you see the biscotti at your local cafe/coffee shop.

Mediterra Bakehouse was founded in 2001, and they bake dozens of artisan breads that they sell to consumers and other businesses. Products include deli loaves (e.g., multigrain, challah, pumpernickel, rye, and sourdough), sandwich buns (e.g., white, wheat, pretzel, and potato), table loaves (e.g., ciabatta, Italian, chili cheddar, chocolate cherry, focaccia, and pecan cranberry), dinner rolls (e.g., challah, French, onion poppy, and rosemary), and baguettes (e.g., sourdough, multigrain, and sesame seminola). I saw on their website that they also have a cakehouse that bakes custom cakes with various icings, fillings, and toppings. For my first purchase, I ordered five breads from Mediterra Bakehouse. All of the breads were a very large size and were fresh, and they cost about several dollars each. Here are my reviews for them:Farm deli loaf - 3 stars - The physical shape and design of this bread was gorgeous, but the flavor was a little plain.Challah hamburger buns - 4 stars - These hamburger buns tasted good. They were very large, so I had extra bread around my hamburger patties.Mt. Athos fire bread - 3 stars - This wheat bread was a generous size, but it tasted slightly plain.Hawaiian dinner rolls - 5 stars - These dinner rolls were moist and had a slightly sweet flavor.Parmesan pepper loaf - 2 stars - This bread contained way too much pepper and too little parmesan. It was so peppery that I threw away most of it.UPDATE on December 26, 2021: A few weeks ago, I rated this business as 3 stars, but I am now increasing my rating to 4 stars after I bought three more of Mediterra's breads. Here are my reviews for the breads:Stollen - 5 stars - This bread contained nuts and dried/candied fruits, and it was covered in powdered sugar. My husband and I really enjoyed the taste of this bread.Chocolate cherry - 4 stars - This bread loaf contained cocoa powder, dark chocolate, and dried cherries. I prefer milk over dark chocolate, but I still enjoyed the flavor of this unique bread.Pecan cranberry - 4.5 stars - This wheat bread contained cranberries and pecans. I really liked the combination of flavors.

You'd never actually know how cool this place was until you go inside and take a look around. It's located in an industrial park area right by the Market District in Robinson. This bakehouse provides bread for the restaurant "Mediterra Cafe" in Sewickley which is quite the place to be as well! They also provide bread all over Pennsylvania, to many different places, even all the way down to Florida! When you first walk in, to the right as you can see in my pics, there is a selection of fresh small bread snacks you can buy, and a wall where they provide bread to buy along with pick up orders. My friends Nick & Andy work at this location. They both work in the back making the bread and speak so highly of this company. Both of them are real stand up guys! I met their manager as well; he was kind and professional and seemed to be running things very smoothly! Nick gave me a little tour of the bake house. How cool it was! He explained to me the process of each type of bread and how things function. I learned that the marking on the bread is called "scoring" ! Everyone was working together so nicely & seemed to be having a great time.Funny to say, all the bread looked so pretty! I wanted to try it all. The back of the bakehouse has tons of ovens and several different types of breads being made at once. The ceilings are so high, which you'd never tell by looking at the front outside of the building. I'm sure the high ceilings help with the warmth because it was warm back there. There's even a pastry room and rooms filled with ready to go bread to be shipped out. I was impressed! They do a lot of hard work back there to produce such amazing tasting bread. Props to them! My aunt and I bought some rosemary olive oil bread, scones, biscottis and a couple of muffins. They are DELICIOUS! You can tell this company treats eachother like family and has a great connection. Everyone I came in contact with whether it was in the front or the back was super nice & friendly. Everything was clean and organized which I'm sure isn't easy to keep up with in a bakehouse filled with yeast and flour everywhere ;) I would recommend this bakehouse to anyone looking for AMAZING BREAD and reliable business. Go check it out for yourself!

This review is based on their cinnamon bun My place of work was feeding us on a very busy pre Thanksgiving morning I was told Mediterra is famous for their buns Very nice sturdy packaging Big beautiful looking buns with drizzled icing They truly looked beautiful So I'm excited Sadly the bun seemed dry possibly a bit stale? The cinnamon and frosting ratio were perfect but not enough to counter the dryPerhaps a bit in a microwave would have changed the outcome for me I'm willing to try again

Every time I visit here I'm blown away by the quality. I swear it gets more and more delicious (not sure how that's possible). Trust me, treat yourself to some of their out of this world breads and croissants... just make sure you buy enough for friends and family, it'll be gone in an instant!

BEST CROISSANTS IN PITTSBURGH! If you are looking for the best pastries in Pittsburgh you simply must try Mediterra! I love Sewickley and not only is this the cutest little place to meet a girlfriend for brunch and coffee but their baked goods are out of this world! I have tried La Gourmadine and Jean Marc's in Pittsburgh as well and I can tell you Mediterra's Almond Croissants (well any croissant of theirs for that matter) are hands-down the best in the city! The owner is super friendly, the coffee is amazing, the staff is nice, and while I haven't tried their brunch or lunch offerings in extent this is truly a place you will not be disappointed spending your morning at.

After bookmarking my favorites from the recent Yelp event I was off to find this Mediterra Bakehouse. It is a little tricky to find because it sits in building number 8 at the far end of an industrial park in Robinson Twp. The owner had given me directions so my girlfriend and I headed out.The place is very small. Since we had come mid afternoon they were putting out their day old breads and pastries. My girlfriend wanted to try the same pecan cranberry bread I had purchased at the event. I was glancing over some of their dinner rolls and came across pretzel buns! They looked tempting but I have the same loaf she bought and wanted to finish that first. So we were looking at their scones. We saw the traditional ones but they had pumpkin ones hidden among them. The scones sell for $2.00. We decided to get them because we were told they weren't making any more for this holiday season. They have such a nice variety of different kinds of breads and loaves along with croissants, danishes, and brownies to name a few. We were again advised not to refrigerate the bread but rather freeze it. My girlfriend asked about toasting it and we were told by all means. So you have the option of either heating your bread in the oven at 325 degrees for about 20 minutes or letting it toast.Lastly he told us it's best to call ahead with our orders so they can be the freshest possible. We came home and I had to at least try part of that pumpkin scone drizzling with that icing. You could just taste the mouthwatering pumpkin! So good! I saw they also have a website where you can order from direct as well. It's great knowing that sometimes the best places are right under your own nose! Yes this is a hidden gem but worth every penny of it. They are open daily.Take the Campbell's Run Road exit if on the Parkway West. Make a right at the exit then turn left onto Glass Road and then another left onto Parkway View Dr. Look for Building number 8 and you will find them.

Very cool place on my first visit. A little hard to find but well worth looking for this place. Fresh ingredients plus they have breads made with flour they make. I will definitely be back again.

Coming to the bake house feels like home to me. The staff is like family, and the bread is amazing. Perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Also, Aundrea's pastries are out of this world. I mean it when I say she makes the best buttercream icing I've had to date, and her creativity is unmatched. She's made the cakes and desserts for almost all of my major life events and we always receive a million compliments. Here's an example of the cake she made for my daughter's second birthday. You truly can't find a better cake artist in the Pittsburgh area.
