McMinn's Irish Pub

This is the best bar food in the South Hills. My wife and I used to live down the street from it and got food from there almost once a week. They have the best beer cheese that I've ever had. Our go-to order was pretzels with beer cheese, honey jalapeno wings, and loaded fries but everything on their menu is a good choice. We still make the hour long drive to get their food every once in a while.

Disappointed with fish sandwich. I tried the daily special, $5 fish sandwich and ff. The fish was big, nicely battered, and golden brown. Fries were okay, but not as golden brown, or crispy as usual. The fish and batter were very bland. I can't imagine a more boring, flavorless fish or batter. The batter needed some zing. Beer, perhaps? I was thinking, it's not like they can't put beer in the batter, when the female bartender came over. I told her my opinion and she said they don't make their own batter. They should, or hire someone to make a kick-in-the-pants batter. I had to rely on the cocktail sauce, with horseradish for some flavor. I wouldn't order this again.Daughter and I like their burgers, and sirloin steak, and I like the wings, but word around here has it that Fatheads wings are GREAT, so off to Fatheads sometime soon. The Chicken Parm, although good, varies in size, so that's out. Never tried the tacos, but Daughter and I like our homemade ones, anyway. We avoid fatty meats, so the hoagie's also out.This really IS a neighborhood bar/sports bar. No matter how (casually) I dress, or how much I smile, I just can't crack this crowd. Greg, the one bartender, the female bartender, and maybe 2 men are the only ones who have ever talked to me (though I'm never here to pick someone up, I'm very friendly, so this is a tough crowd for me) so far. The other females have never even acknowledged my existence. So, I come for the food. And, the bartenders are nice, which is the third star today.

McMinn's is the Anti-Cheers: The place where if no one knows your name, you'd better leave. Such was our unfortunate discovery this evening. I'd been meaning to come to McMinn's for some time, especially when I found out that I could use my Just Pay Half Hot Card here. Tonight, however, when we went to this watering hole that somewhat resembles a castle (it's in Castle Shannon ironically enough) and caters to the biker crowd, we were ignored by the server who was sitting outside on a bench taking hits off of a cigarette and talking on her cell phone. When we warily stepped inside, we were eyeballed by a bunch of regulars who seemingly took over the bar. No other servers were in sight, and we were not greeted or seated by anyone who works there (even a 'sit where ya like' would have sufficed). After hearing a half-ton of foul, aggressive language directed at a video poker machine, which was being shaken and kicked violently, we felt uncomfortable, unwelcome and bailed. All we wanted was some pub grub, bub. P.S. I know they have a menu. I do remember seeing one online somewhere a little while ago.P.P.S. They weren't THAT busy. C'mon.P.P.P.S. You'd think it would be kind of quaint based on the name.

I've been here a few more times and had a couple of meals, so am updating the review. The food is strictly pub fare, with wings, burgers and sandwiches. I had a chicken sandwich called the drunken bird or something like that, and a steak sandwich. The sandwiches are really good and pretty big servings. They come with either fries or chips, and I like their chips, which are homemade, not out of a bag. All sandwiches on the menu are $7.50, a good price. Overall, this is a nice neighborhood pub.

Loved McMinn's, great wings, consistently cooked perfectly and a great selection of sauces. You won't empty your wallet either when you have a couple drinks and something to eat here.

Let me tell you, if you want a mom and pop bar, with a rugged but friendly crowd, come no further. The food is to die for and they have awesome wing night every Wednesday (look them up to be sure) with great beer specials.I love this place....just wish they didn't remove the T-stop there. It would make it much easier to get home.

Good food, regular specials and pretty good prices. The bar definitely has it's regulars and it's not huge so on bigger sports nights it gets pretty packed. I enjoy when there are less people and I can use the pool and dart board which are cheap to play on.

I really really love the food here. Truthfully, the best wings I've ever had in my life. My favorite sauce is the garlic hot bbq; I've never seen this flavor anywhere else. And their soft pretzels and beer cheese are one of a kind. The pretzels seem to be seasoned with steak seasoning and it complements the cheese so well. On top of amazing bar food, the prices are so affordable! And they have a nice selection of beer. I love McMinns so much, but I could not give it 5 stars because of the poor service. Every time I go here, it takes forever to get waited on and no one ever comes around to check up on us. There's usually just a bartender when I go and she's the do it all person so I understand it can get busy. However, the bartender is usually just standing around chatting with the drinkers and never pays attention to anyone else unless you actually go up to the bar to order, get water, pay, etc. Its a shame because the food is soooo good here!

This has been a favorite stop for many years. Best wings, burgers, and more! Huge selection of beers and the staff always accommodating with dietary issues.

Great place to eat! The food is delicious and the service is friendly and professional. If you want a great burger, this is the place to go! Daily food and drink specials and friendly crowd. I love this place!
