Update: still 3 stars. I visited Lychee this week for the first time in about a year. Nothing really has changed. Dishes are ok but nothing special. I've had better and worse in town. However Lychee seems to be the only dine in Chinese restaurant left in Altoona unless you are up for buffet self serve. Most others seem to have gone over to take out only. I will say that prices are good. It's probably one of the few sit downs where you can get lunch for about $10. Lychee isn't my first choice, but it's ok if you don't expect too much.

Go. Somewhere. Else. We used to order food from here from time to time and decided it was time to try again. My beef chow mei fun was full of gristle and fat and had very little vegetables in it, the beef was cut extremely thin and was really flavorless. My wife's sesame chicken was dry and without flavor, the sauce literally dried on it while she tried to eat it. And the wonton soup had pieces of meat in it that are about the size of a pencil eraser. Will never be back.

I am from the American West Coast so naturally I am very spoiled for choice when it comes to quality Asian dishes, including those of Cantonese and Szechuan provenance. I have only visited this here Lychee restaurant once, whereupon I ordered their deluxe house special fried rice. When I received the order I concluded thatit was 98% rice with the rest mostly sautéed onions and other small bits of random vegetables with a few bits of what I believe to be ham, pork and chicken. I did not detect either visually or gustatorily any shrimp or other similar crustacean. There were no cashews or water chestnuts or any other similar delicacies that one routinely finds in higher- end fried rice conglomerations.I must regrettably conclude therefore that this was a very subpar fried rice of inferior quality. I sincerely hope that the people of Altoona do not accept this fried rice as the norm or standard in the rest of the country because it certainly is not. I do hereby request in the most humble and sincere fashion that the owners of the Lychee restaurant reappraise their fried rice recipe and adjust it in an upwards direction in order to elevate the regional quality of central Pennsylvanian fried rice and inso doing deliver to the people of Altoona and surrounding townships the classic Asian dish that they truly deserve.

Don't listen to those other reviews lol. They're old and this place rocks. As a Chinese person if you're looking for authentic food this is the place. Did you know Chinese people actually look for 2-3 star restaurants cuz we know that is where food is most authentic cuz white people can't stand asian food that isn't americanized? Lol. Anyway tasted great and I look forward to coming here again.

I tried Lychee for the first time about three days ago. I ordered the Hunan Chicken (requested to be extra hot), the Spicy Chili Chicken (requested to be extra hot), and Lo Mein with Chicken. I picked up the food, the staff was friendly inside.I'm giving the food three starts because neither the Hunan Chicken of the Spicy Chili Chicken was spicy. Both dishes lacked both taste and spice. They were not hot at all.

If I could give this less than a 1 star I would. My husband and I just ordered from there. His food...walnut chicken... was rock hard,(was made earlier and fried YET again. Not fresh at ALL!!!!) all the sauce was at the bottom, he had to mix it up himself. $11 for just his and now it must be returned because he can't even eat it. He almost chipped his tooth that's how hard it is. Very disappointing for being first time customers. Will NOT be returning.

Usually love this place, but I went last night for the first time in a while and was very disappointed. I ordered online for pickup. I ordered Singapore noodles with shrimp. They only put TWO shrimp on top, and added scraps of pork to fill in the gaps where several shrimp should have been. Two shrimp in the entire container. Like I wouldn't notice? I also ordered a big container of shrimp and broccoli. Now once I saw this I started to think, maybe they had a shrimp shortage that day?.... Because I basically had a bowl of broccoli with 3 (ooooh I got an extra one!) shrimp placed equally apart. Now, I'm not asking for 35 shrimp in each order. However, if I'm paying $5+ for a SMALL size, and $7+ for a large, then yes I absolutely expect more than 2 or 3 shrimp. On the bright side they had it ready very quick, I barely had to wait.

I used to love this place. The last time we ordered. I got General Tso Chicken. I ate a bite. No chicken in it. Every single piece was nothing but balls of breading. My daughter ordered Orange Chicken. The same thing. No chicken. Just balls of breading in the sauce. I wont give them my business anymore.

Everything about this place is nice, clean, pleasant, well packaged, on time, etc. and the food looks great but if you are expecting it to taste like any other Chinese food you've eaten in the past you will be sadly mistaken.
