This location was originally Ann's Pizza - A once Johnstown pizza institution! Ann's closed down a few years back and Jo Jo's pizza moved in. I swear, out of all of the conversations I have with my JOHNSTOWN friends and family members, this pizza location is always discussed. There are lots of great local pizza places in the JOHNSTOWN area, and folks there are not shy about letting you know their favorites! Lol Ann's pizza was my absolute favorite pizza for many many years...going way back!! One of our first stops when visiting JOHNSTOWN was to go to Ann's! They served square slices (cheese or pepperoni), their crust was crunchy and tasted great, their sauce had a unique flavor, you just knew it was Ann's! My local family had mentioned that Ann's went through some financial changes and unfortunately closed. Sad to hear.. :(JoJo's came in and took over the restaurant. I was told (by a local) that they now serve Ann's pizza - so I had to check it out!I was greeted very warmly and friendly. I mentioned I was an out of towner and was curious about their pizza options. I was quickly told that they do NOT serve Ann's pizza and do not have Ann's recipes. Well, this was disappointing to me as my local family members had informed me that they did serve Ann's recipes. Still wanting to give it a try, I moved on with placing my order. JoJo's options are "traditional" or "sweet". I had never heard of "sweet" pizza before, so I had to ask about that one. It's basically a sweeter sauce (imagine pizza sauce with a little sugar in it). They still serve square slices (with or without pepperoni). They had a 6 slice combo with a drink - we tried that option so that we could try both styles of pizza. It was hard for me to be in this location, seeing the pizza that looks like Ann's, served in the same white boxes that Ann used, coming out of the same big ovens, etc and not think about Ann's pizza. I'm sorry - I'm trying not to be biased but it's hard! We decided that the pizza was good, but in our option not as good as Ann's pizza was. There was something about Ann's recipe that was just a tradition with my family. We liked jo jo's traditional style better than the sweet style. The staff was great, the location was clean, great value, etc. I had to go back to some of my local relatives and explain the options. Some of them have tried JoJos and liked it better than Ann's! Looks like they also serve pepperoni rolls and soft shelled Tacos! Will definitely try these next time! :)So I guess this conversation about Ann's vs. JoJo's pizza will continue with my friends and family! Please give Jo Jo's a try!
