Let me see where do I start ...ok if you want to have dinner call and make a reservation seriously not because the place is packed but the opposite they need to know you are coming. We truly truly lucked out walked in on a cold Saturday night saw a few folks at tables as in 2-3 there are and 3 booths. there is bar but I think its just there since this place was something totally different in the olden daysnow on to the food its so good so savory so yum my bff said to the one and only waitress owner what do you recommend?Chicken paprikash so good so savory served with dumplings that tasted and looked like spaetzel if you know what I meanwe also ordered cream of onion soup very cheesy and made a good appetizer to sharebeef with dumplings also tastymy bff was excited about the kremes dessert on the menu but alas they were not available we were told the pastry chef had left ANYWAYif you want a delicious meal make a reservation while were were sitting and waiting folks did come in and were told sorry no anyway I felt like I won the lottery of Pittsburgh getting a booth and a fresh cooked meal we had a slice apple strudel for dessert I hope next visit they have the kremesRemember maybe 12-18 would fill the place its tiny its on a very unassuming corner in Deutschtown this is a neighborhood that was decimated when they built the interstate reasonable prices our full meal including coffee and soda 60 bucks and worth it

Make sure you make a reservation. Kitchen is fully closed 7:00 and trust me they won't serve you This is the most home style/homiest places I've eaten at. It's so Mom and Pop. The wife sits out on her couch in the middle of the restaurant and talks to you like your grandchildren. It's awesome. It's set up like the most Eastern European spot with so much Hungarian decorThe food itself.... Very bland. Everything needed salt. The goulash broth was good and potatoes in it cooked well. It pains me to say this because the service was arguably the best I've ever had and I loved them so much

We went to this place on a Friday night at the time of our reservation. We were seated immediately. The restaurant was full of Hungarian cultural items such as maps and photos which gave it a nice ethnic vibe. The house was run by an old couple. The lady kept having conversation with the guests that was good. We ordered langos, goolash, stewed beef, and multilayered cake. The langos was better than what I had tasted in Budapest. The goolash was much worse. Other items were mediocre. This place was worth visiting once.

We were staying nearby & couldn't pass up authentic Hungarian food. The owner was fantastic with our kids. We enjoyed several dishes & shared several types of crepes for dessert. Recommend reservations on weekends. They seated us early on a weekday without one. Cozy, old world atmosphere is free!

Waitress refused to serve us. Walked in and asked to sit at the bar for drinks and some light food. Waitress said we needed to choose if we were just having drinks or a full meal. We decided we'd just have some beers. Waitress responded that she's not a bartender and that we couldn't stay.

I was excited to revisit this neighborhood staple and support local business on a Sunday with my parents, but was turned away at 6:15pm when the hours say 7:00pm closing and there was a full table of diners. Very disappointing.

I've driven by this place so many times when I worked in the neighborhood and I finally had a chance to stop by and I regret not finding this place sooner!! We got a few very tasty dishes here and the food is comforting, very flavorful and tastes like home. It's like an elevated home cooking. Not pretentious and totally delicious. The chicken paprikas is excellent. I also loved the Magyar schnitzel with the mushroom sauce and langos was such a tasty appetizer. The service was good, prompt and friendly. We loved the mom n pop feel of the restaurant. I can't wait to come back and try other dishes!

We had dinner at Huszar Hungarian Restaurant. The restaurant is in a corner tavern on a somewhat run down block adjacent to the expressway. Do not be put off by appearances. The food was excellent. Chicken paprikash and a Hungarian pork schnitzel with great sauce. Side of pickled red cabbage. Sour cherry strudel for dessert. Exceptionally savory food for a cold winter evening. The atmosphere was distinctive. A former dive bar decorated to honor freedom fighters from 1956. We liked it. We were the only guests. We enjoyed hearing the life histories of the proprietor : cook :: wife : husband and the back story on the restaurant. We also appreciated an intense and civil discussion of Hungarian and American politics.Highly recommended! We will stop here again on our drives between Ann Arbor and Washington.
