House of Soul Catering

Ordered food here the night before Christmas. Got a fair bit of food delivered. They specialize in soul food/Southern-style cooking. I tried the BBQ Beef Ribs bundle - which came with a drink (I got a Diet Mountain Dew) as well as 2 sides (I chose the Mac n cheese and cornbread, although it already came with 1 piece of cornbread) and 4 Beef ribs, a salmon croquette, steak and cheese egg roll with some sauce, and a peach cobbler.The main entree (ribs) were quite disappointing. There was very little meat on them. The ribs were quite chewy and mostly fat, which is not something I enjoy. They were also quite thin and coated in a ton of very sweet BBQ sauce. So, not a win. The corn bread, though, was actually quite good. It had a sugary moist topping that was very pleasant. It was a bit dry on the inside and did crumble, but the overall flavor was decent. I do appreciate they give you one piece for free. The Mac n cheese was not good, unfortunately. There was very little cheese. Any of the cheese that was present came in clumps, which made for a strange texture and flavor. It was also very buttery and oily, which I'm not a huge fan of either. I would really recommend staying away from this dish unless you like oily macaroni without much cheese. Portion is large.The egg roll was quite tasty. When ordering online, I couldn't find a way to add a single roll to my order, so I had to write it in the description of another item. Thankfully, the person making the food saw this note! The roll is larger than your average Chinese takeout egg roll, and it's packed with delicious items. They have seafood, chicken, and other varieties, but I chose the steak and cheese. Its crispy and the sauce in there (maybe the steak juices?) was delicious. Would have liked a bit more cheese, but overall great.However, the sauce that was served with it was not that great. You do not get the option to choose your sauce. The one it was served with was very acidic and too spicy for my liking. Maybe someone who enjoys spice would have a different opinion.For dessert, the peach cobbler was flavorful. It was made with real peaches and was not overly sweet. I have not tried many peach cobblers, but I assumed they were supposed to have a crust? This did not have a crust, and it was a bit soupy. The 'dough' parts were soggy. My favorite part of the meal was the salmon croquette. I would honestly recommend just getting the bundle meal with these croquettes, because I was that impressed. Definitely homemade and delicious. The portion was bigger than I expected for $4. A bit spicy, crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside. Nice sauce.All in all, there were some parts of the meal that were a let down. Others, like the salmon croquette or the egg rolls, were great. It's a hit or miss type place. I'm still looking for a Southern place in Pittsburgh that blows me away.

The food was excellent. The chicken and waffles were amazing. The chicken had great flavor. I just wish it wasn't just wings. The mac n cheese was pretty good, and the person who got it said it was amazing. I loved the greens. They were nicely done, and the flavor was great. I loved the spice.

I've lived n Whitaker forever but never tried this place until today. We were specifically looking for a place with full wings. Went in to order. The lady was so nice. Said 45 minutes but sadly it took nearly 2 hours. Seriously the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. I had a whole family (some seniors) that were getting a little hangry. Staff was very kind - mentioned they had some catering jobs. Let me just say it was worth the wait!!!! Wings were amazing (white hairs loved them) and mac & cheese was fantastic. The BEST were the Nipsey Chicken Sandwiches!!! Sweet Baby JESUS - messy as heck but BEST TASTING SANDWICH EVER!!! Peach cobblers finished the meal in style. Only wish I had vanilla ice cream to go with it. No pictures because when I got back with the food no one would even consider waiting to let me take any. LOL. I will try it again - but just not when the whole family is hangry.

Friendly service and amazing food. There were vegan options on the menu which made eating here an easy choice. My wife and our friend had the vegan Nipsey Chicken while I had the original with chicken and turkey bacon. Both were awesome, crispy, perfectly seasoned and HUGE. You need both hands to eat the thing. I also picked up a couple of the seafood egg rolls. The best shrimp/seafood egg roll I have ever had. Bar none. Stuffed with shrimp, scallops, crab. I know...in an egg roll sounds kind of strange but, trust me. Sweet, savory, umami, with just the tiniest kick of heat. Yes. Get one. Get 3, just get some. Oh yea, you need some juicy's sweet tea to wash it all down. I really don't know what it is, Sorrel? This stuff is good. Refreshing and almost syrup like koolaid made right. Thank goodness I don't live close. House of soul you made our night, thanks for feeding our souls!

Sweet little spot in the cut. Friendly service and great food. Soul food at it's finest. First time around I tried the cheese burger which was very juicy and well done, the salmon patties were well seasoned and large, Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesey, the greens were just ok, the honey cornbread made my life better. They also had bbq beef and Turkey ribs on special that I did not try but several orders went out while I was here. Also the chicken and fish were really smelling good and very popular. The second time we got the specials a very good curry chicken over rice with cabbage and yams, and smothered smoked Turkey wing with onion rings and greens. All were so good and the greens were better than the last time. I wish they had dine-in seating. I appreciate the old school r&b playing. The prices are fair with lots of specials. They have very nice deserts also. They do not sell any pork. I will be back for Turkey ribs.

I'm just a Uber driver... I came in to.pock up a delivery. I asked if the order ready the purple head guy sain in a rude tone I'm bagging it up now!!! WAY TOO MUCH TUDE FOR A QUESTION!!!

I ordered them through Postmates and I really wish I hadn't. I ordered 2 wing dinners (cornbread & green beans) as included sides PLUS additional sides: yams, mac & cheese and potato salad. I asked for hard fried wings, they were somewhat moist. Surprisingly, none of the food was seasoned. It seemed as though the green beans were seasoned with some hot sauce only. The potato salad was soupy and sweet, apparently they must use relish. The cornbread was great! If you want to order only cornbread this is your spot!Otherwise, keep moving along.

The restaurant serves my favorite entree, cooked and served poorly. The food is not tasty for African American style. It was not fresh and packaging is poor. It gets a one star for being what it say, food service; and that is all. I would not use it for catering an event or the guests may be disappointed. Best wishes to you. I will NEVER order from House Of Soul Catering, LLC. again!Finally received my meal after 2 hours, chicken not cooked completely, sides are cold, burnt cornbread that smells/taste like fish. Only thing worth getting was the damn Red Faygo!Of course, I tried to call them to ask about a refund, they asked me to hold and hung up.After trying to call back 15 times- I see they're not going to answer the phone!They need to be closed!Smh.
