Hoffstot’s Cafe Monaco

Hoffstots has been my Mothers special celebration restaurant for years. Today I took her for her 88th birthday and it was the worst meal of my life!I wish I had taken pictures of all the food we sent back! First, the Bruschetta. Both my mother and I took one bite and said at the same time said, "this is terrible!" We called the server and told him we wanted to send it back. Thankfully he was very gracious about it. We ordered our meals. My Mom had the 3 medallions filet which we've had many times and loved. I had chicken marsala. The chicken arrived and was terrible! It was clearly prefab and covered with at least a cup of congealed brown gravy threaded with what looked like spinach but was supposed to be mushrooms. One bite and I called the server to send it back. He actually looked at it as he was leaving and asked what about it I didn't like. Fair enough question nicely asked but seriously, it looked like cold brown gravy out of a can. I have to question how someone even let it leave the kitchen much less ask what was wrong. I kept the side of broccoli with the intent to eat just that but nope. It was cold oily and tasteless. How can you screw up broccoli?? My mother shared one of her filet medallions and it was not even close to the tasty version we'd had in the past. The beef was clearly low quality. It had that am I liver or am I filet texture and no taste. They added some kind of sweet glaze to the filet which just validated that the meat was low quality. You don't put sweet glaze on a good filet. At least it was edible. Sadly her side of French fries was just another tasteless illusion of food. I can't overlook the side salads. The lettuce was straight out of the bag. The whole salad probably weighed 2 oz and included 1slice of cucumber. A couple of old mushy olives and 2 small cherry tomatoes. For my Mothers birthday dessert she ordered almond torte. What arrived was a round piece of cake that had hard icing around it covered with almond slices. On her first bite she couldn't get her fork through the dessert. I figured it had been frozen but no... just so damn stale that she couldn't break through the icing. The server who brought it watched and then said, " and that was the last one." It had Christmas decorations on it.... we were there on Jan 5... it all added up. The desert had to be very very old. I tasted it and can verify that it was ridiculously stale, dry, and flavorless. While you can't blame the servers for terrible food you can hold them accountable for omissions of service. I had to ask for dishes to be cleared. We had to ask for bread. I had to ask for new silverware. I had to ask for a clean coffee cup at the end of the meal. ( I had coffee before the appetizer). We waited for 20 minutes with my wallet on the bar and had to ask for the bill. The saddest part of this disappointing meal was that even though my mother had shared that it was her 88th birthday, she was served an old stale piece of birthday desert and no recognition of her celebration. We would have had a better meal atMcDonald's. At least it is reliably what it is without any illusion of being more. The most offensive thing about such a poor quality experience is that hoffstats arrogantly charges enough to set the expectation of a much better meal. I consider that fraud.

Bland. Overpriced. Service was adequate with a hint of arrogance. Small gnat (or 2) would not leave our table for most of the evening. Water glasses are too small and were spotted. Appetizer of stuffed peppers was overpriced for two small peppers. Zero taste or heat. This seemed to be the standard, possibly for the above average aged crowd. Veal was smothered in sauce and soggy. Carrot cake was giant and the only redeeming part of the visit.

Family style restaurant with friendly ambience and a varied menu. Monthly early-bird specials are usually tasty and a good value.

This place is like the poster child for over-promise and under-deliver. Everything we had was bland and overpriced. How someone manages to make a roast beef sandwich taste like absolutely nothing is beyond me. My partner had a terrible stomach ache for the rest of the night after eating his entree. He knows it was the scallops. The prices are also outrageous, especially considering the quality of the food. The only reason it didn't get one star is because service was OK.

Recently got takeout front this restaurant. I have not been here for years. We ordered fettuccine, manicotti and a steak salad. The steak salad was very good with plenty of meat. Ranch dressing was excellent. The fettucine was also very good. The manicotti was good but not how I remembered. It was layered not rolled. Overstuffed with ricotta. Takeout Service was fine.

Favoocal family owned restaurant. All food was very good with outstanding waitstaff. Suggest making reservations during peak times. Consider pork if you dig the pig. Nice chops.

This is my first time at this establishment, and everything was delicious. One of my friends had recommended Hoffstot's for a dinner together, and told me that this place was friendly and the food was delicious. After having eaten here, I could not agree more!Overall, the ambience is welcoming, and the staff make sure that every customer is well taken care of. The person that I was dinner with pretty much everybody that was working at the restaurant, and introduced me to them - I don't think I've ever met a friendlier group!My friend made several recommendations regarding their menu, and I decided to have their Scattino "beggar's purses" pasta dish - I absolutely loved it; this dish had everything - Italian, sweet sausage, peppers, Boursin cream, and this was truly worth the visit.The wait staff were super attentive, and made sure that everyone was well cared for during the meal - honestly, it appeared as if all of the customers knew the wait staff well; definitely a good sign of dedication to excellent service and delicious food...I most definitely will be back soon, this time I'll bring my whole family. Thank you so much for such a wonderful evening!! Definitely recommend!!!

My husband and I frequent Hoffstot's regularly because we enjoy the food and the service. Former colleagues and I get together for dinner at least once a quarter and meet at The Lot, right up the street because it's central for me in the east and each of them in the north. Someone suggested that we try another restaurant and for me, it was a no-brainer, I recommended Hoffstot's.We had a 6:30 reservation and when I arrived at 6:24 there were a number of people waiting to be seated. I checked in with one of three hostesses who advised we would be seated closer to the time of our reservation; not sure how much closer you can get than 6:24 but ok. As more and more people were seated, my friends questioned whether or not they all had reservations (maybe they did, maybe they didn't) but as 7:00 approached they were ready to leave and head up the road to The Lot. Just as that decision was being made, Jamie got my attention, asked how many in my party and had us seated in the adjoining dining room.I write this review not to in any way bash the hostesses (who I do believe were inexperienced and overwhelmed) but to commend Jamie and acknowledge the service she provided. In spite of me assuring my friends of how good the food and service have typically been, had Jamie not intervened this could have been a one and done (or not at all) visit for them to Hoffstot's, but Jamie's service and attention made their dining experience enjoyable and each of them said because of her they would return.Thanks Jamie for making what could have been an unpleasant experience pleasurable!

So sad to see this at once, staple too bad under new ownership. The food has been so inconsistent. The prices are much higher than many of the familiar stuff are gone.

Keefe has ruined Oakmont, one spot at a time. Only go if you want to be treated poorly while eating mediocre food.
