Hilda's Soul Food Kitchen

Hilda's makes the best soul food in Pittsburgh without question. Everything they make is delicious so it's difficult to pick a dish that stands out over the other dishes, but I will say they make the tastiest oxtail I've ever had. The yams are unbelievable as well as the string beans--- with that said you can not go wrong at Hilda's. They also have a great staff friendly and loving people-- their food is definitely made with love.

Probably the best meatloaf I've ever had. The portion was very sizeable and the price was amazing. The people working there was very very friendly. I waited for my take out and they treated me like I was a regular. The mini cornbread was ridiculously good. I could eat a dozen and not blink an eye. I will definitely be back.

Most of everything I've tried here is good. The fried whiting and the greens are delicious. The mac n cheese though, wasn't for me. I like mine cheesy and creamy, but that's not how they make it here. It was more on the clumpy side instead of creamy. No big deal, I know to order something different next time. I'll stick to the potato salad!

I had a really wonderful experience as a first time customer here. I got the oxtail special (Thursday's special) which was it was tender, flavorful and amazing. It was served on a bed of seasoned rice. So good and a nice big serving! My sides were equally memorable. The cornbread muffin was moist and perfect to dip in the juices from the oxtail. My mac and cheese was a little overdone but so tasty! The cabbage was seasoned nicely, had pieces of bacon and lots of love... The owners obviously care about doing things right. They were very attentive to the customers and to me. They clearly have the experience and passion to produce delicious, authentic southern food. I'm looking forward to trying more items on the menu and the other daily specials. Save some deviled eggs for me! I'll be back.

This was my first visit to Hilda's and it won't be my last! I got the special- ox tails- and two sides of my choosing. The ox tails were delicious-meaty and fall apart melt in your mouth yummy. Served with gravy over rice it made for a filling and satisfying dinner. The sides I chose were candied sweet potatoes- full of spiced goodness but not overly sweet and real sweet potatoes, not canned, they were the perfect side as well as the greens which were cooked with meaty bacon. A corn muffin completed the dinner and there was enough for two people-very generous servings! I can't wait to try what Hilda cooks up next.

DELICIOUS home-cooked meals! I've had the smothered pork chops and the smothered chicken dinners. Each time, I chose macaroni and cheese and greens as my side dishes. Price was highly reasonable! About $10. Call ahead for takeout. You will be satisfied, and you will return. I know that I will. Enjoy!

Authentic soul food that is wonderful! Large menu and the women who cook and own Hilda's know what they are doing.

The food was amazing! We had a full spread of deviled eggs, bbq chicken, fried catfish, and apple cobbler. We of course also couldn't go without the Mac and cheese, greens, cabbage, and potato salad. Can't express enough how delicious everything is! To add to a great food experience, the service is really great, Avis was so patient with us and throughly explained the specials. Can't wait to come back, this is our new favorite soul food place in homestead!

Love, love, love this place! The ribs are sooo good, I couldn't put the fried cabbage down and the yams were unbelievable. What made the food extra special was the customer service. I love this couple, they are so sweet and caring. If you haven't tried Hilda's stop on by!
