I've attended several events over the years as a guest to Green Oaks C.C. The food has always been good, ( including the outdoor grill by the pool.) Green Oaks has a very nice pool with outdoor lunch seating, well maintained clay tennis courts, & a beautiful golf course. The club has a very accommodating staff, and friendly members. Drive time from Shadyside/Squirrel Hill area is only 15 minutes. Green Oaks is a hidden treasure.I joined last year as a tennis member & continued this year. In my opinion, this Club & Pike Run C.C. are the true definitions of quality "country" clubs.

Finally, a review that I was actually looking forward to writing! We just held an event at Green Oaks Country Club in Verona/Penn Hills area. I cannot begin to convey what an extraordinary experience it was. Joe, the manager, was hands down one of the most helpful, responsive, accommodating and professional people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He hooked us up with excellent vendors from day one and helped us organize a last-minute event seamlessly. He was there for us every step of the way and, during the event, was behind the scenes coordinating with other vendors to ensure that everything went off without a hitch. He helped make our party everything we could have dreamed it would be and more. The venue itself is ideal - gorgeous, spacious, loads of accessible parking, plenty of windows with beautiful views, even nice bathrooms! Joe's staff was attentive and ultra-professional. Oh and the food. At the risk of sounding repetitive or gushing, the food was total perfection. Not sure how they managed to please a roomful of picky eaters - many with food sensitivities, but their buffet menu did just that (garlic breadsticks in particular had the kids going back to the buffet table again and again).Ok, one last thing - the price. Not sure if it was just the time of year, but we were on a very tight budget and this was one of only a few venues that fit right into it! We feel so fortunate to have found this place and could never thank Joe and his team enough for an evening that we will never forget. Five stars PLUS for Green Oaks!!!

How does anybody belong to a Country Club that doesn't fly an AMERICAN FLAG!!!!!!!! There's no excuse that can justify this to me. There's not one other course within a 50 mile radius that doesn't have a flag flying. The flag was put up in late March after several phone calls from myself. The American flag should fly 12 months a year, (with the exception of inclimate weather and cold is not inclimate weather) not just when it's golf season. Today it's 83 out and sunny and NO FLAG!!!! Did the rope break???? If so, FIX IT. If not, WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE??????????????Today is September 30, the weather is partly cloudy, no rain. And here's an unAmerican golf course that can't find a way to fly "OUR" flag. Is the staff that lazy that no one can put the flag up???? You have no excuse!!Update, went by the club today(Nov 11, 2016) at 3:55pm and NO FLAG. Today is Veterans Day, let me say that again VETERANS DAY and this club has no US flag up to HONOR our veterans. Do you belong to this club?? If so, do one of two things. Raise your voice to the people who run this club or RAISE A FLAG on their flag pole!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you like being disrespected by the staff on the most important day of your life, then let me recommend Green Oaks Country Club, Verona, Pa 15147. I recently attended a wedding ceremony of my beautiful cousin and her awesome husband. Where to begin? The ceremony was held outside on the golf course with promises of a halt to golf activity during the ceremony. This didn't happen. The holes directly in front and to the rear of the bridal party had activity on them. Thank God a shanked golf ball didn't connect with any of us. The Green Oaks staff had a full count of the guest list but decided that a hundred or so people didn't need to have chairs. While the vowels were being said, there were very vocal screams of "CANNON BALL" emanating from the club member's children who were in the pool directly behind us.Again, for a promise that all club activity was be halted during the ceremony, Green Oaks had no problems holding their members in higher esteem than the people spending tens of thousand dollars to get married there. The bride was promised that she would have the locker rooms to get ready in without the interference of the club members. Broken promise number two. She was forced to get ready in front of some of the most ignorant, entitled women that a country club in Penn Hills has to offer. Here's where my bias and spite come into play. After the ceremony, around 5:30PM, the bar was opened up. They had top shelf liquor, wine and beer. I was ordering Dewar's White label on the rocks (when in Rome). I had two singles and two doubles before the bar shut down for approximately an hour and fifteen minutes for dinner. The bar re-opened around 7:50 PM and I was able to get one more drink, then I walked around to socialize. I went up for one more drink and was informed that I was cut off... AT 8:05 PM! I don't know if this was a case of mistaken identity because I happened to be wearing a blue shirt, or if my attempt to tip the bar keep a measly dollar was offensive. I can't tell you. I'm 31 years old; six foot three inches, and weighing just shy of 230 pounds. I can assure you that I was not showing any prominent signs of intoxication, nor was I ignorant to the staff in any way. I went to talk to my aunt (mother of the bride) to inform her of this. She went to the bar manager who I believe was named Holly. I spoke with Holly as well and was informed that it would be taken care of. I came to later find out that the bartender that cut me off also had cussed my aunt out as well as several other guests dropping F bombs the whole time. This is completely unacceptable behavior. I walked back up to the bar again to try and get a glass of merlot, and again was informed that I had been cut-off. My father who was there began disputing this with the bar wenches and requesting to speak with the manager. I walked out to the back porch when my aunt had brought me out a drink, and one of the bartenders followed me and screamed at her stating at the top of her lungs that I had been cut off, further embarrassing me in front of the other guests. By this point, the decision was made by me to just leave. I asked to speak with the manager one last time and was informed that the police had been called on me. I never even so much as raised my voice. I made my rounds and went out to the front entrance to speak with the police officer. He got my information and told us that we were free to go. I found out later that the bride (my cousin) made the bartender that was acting ignorant, leave. Nice venue, mediocre food, some of the worst service that I have ever had. Low budget fire hall weddings have acted with more professionalism and courtesy than the great Green Oaks Country Club. In medieval times, the bar wench and the Inn Manager would have had their head prominently displayed on a pike outside of the city walls for the way that they treated the bridal party and guests. But alas, it's the twenty first century and the customer is always SCUM. Best advice: STAY AWAY!
