Forbes Tavern

Was in town for a convention last week and saw this otherwise nondescript bar had a surprising high review score. It is well deserved - this was the best meal I had all week, and everybody at my table agreed. Service was prompt and friendly, and it was a very nice dinner experience.I had the Nashville chicken sandwich, and it came out perfectly crispy but still juicy in the middle, exactly as it should be. Seasoning was on point as well. My friend got the brisket melt and gave me a bite and it was absolutely delicious too.This is the kind of quintessential hole-in-the-wall place that will shock you.

I recently visited Forbes Tavern for dinner. I had an absolutely awful experience. Upon arriving the server name Holly was rude and interrupted numerous times when trying to place the order. Holly did not pay attention to things specifications I made to the food. Holly appeared irritated and annoyed when I asked for basic condiments such as mayonnaise for a burger. The experience was so awful I lost my appetite. I paid the check and left the food. Holly then yelled at me and asked if there was a problem in front of all the customers seated at the bar. I began walking out when Holly stopped me again and asked was there a problem. Before I could even make an attempt to explain, Holly began yelling that she did nothing wrong. I explained I did not have a pleasant experience and I would like to leave. Holly continued to yell she did nothing wrong. It was very clear she had no interest in hearing my perspective about her customer service. Holly argued if I can't tell her what she did wrong, that she did nothing wrong. At that point I told Holly I did not, and would not explain her deficiencies, but instead that I'd like to leave.The food was decent, but the service was awful. There are plenty of other options, I would not recommend visiting Forbes Tavern.

Late night bite that I would come back to during the day. Good food, efficient service and a clean bar vibe. We got in late and this was about the only place still open. We got in a few minutes before the kitchen closed. I wanted some French onion soup and I asked for their recommendation on sandwich. The soup was really good. Not too salty, hearty and full of flavor. The sandwich was also good, but it's hard to mess up a Reuben. We had a couple beers, of which they had a pretty extensive selection. They had several TVs broadcasting various sports. But the room was filled with music which was a bit loud. It wasn't super crowded, but we nearly closed down the bar and there was still a healthy crowd when we left on a Friday night. I would definitely go again.

My coworkers and I will sometimes order takeout from Forbes Tavern when we're in the office. I order the same thing each time: the crab cake sandwich. Forbes Tavern has one of the best crab cakes I've ever tasted. I always want to branch off and try something new, but the crab cake is just too good. It's served with a side of fries and they are really good too! Everytime I pick up an order, the staff are always very kind and nice. It's always fairly busy with patrons dining in (I pick up my order around lunch time). The ambiance is your typical bar with lots of TVs. I think Forbes Tavern is great!

While in town, we were looking for something low key. We were very happy to find Forbes. It was quiet on a Wednesday night. We were seated at a two top table. Ordered the fried goat cheese to start. While there were only four of them, they were great! The cheese was creamy and the honey sauce was a perfect compliment. The tavern burger was great. Cooked perfectly, I wouldn't change anything. Toppings were nice and fresh. There was one server working the bar and restaurant area. She was great! I was amazed to see the way she managed everything. Our drinks were always filled, food came out hot and she was very kind.

It's absolutely an awesome place for lunch. I googled "Pittsburgh salad near me" and ended up here for a lunch. The Pittsburgh salad delivered as it was a big portion. The beers on tap seemed to go on forever and the staff here were super friendly. The service was quick and the chicken was packed with flavor and wasn't overcooked. I love how this gave a pub feel and it felt like a different place that wasn't downtown Pittsburgh.

Came here for the Valentine's pop-up bar, Love Loft, and it was well worth the price/experience! I got the Love You A Latte cocktail and it was delicious! It was just the right level of sweetness!

Our food was absolutely delicious, and our server was on it! We shared a couple of items, including the fried brussels sprouts appetizer, which was delicious and so flavorful! We also shared the crabcake, Pittsburgh flatbread, and an order of tomato bisque. Everything was absolutely delicious. The Tavern gone sports bar atmosphere is so fun and cozy. We will definitely be back! Can't wait to take more people to this charming spot!

Dark atmosphere and definitely the place for watching sports. It looked like only 2 people were working both as a bartender and server on a Sunday night, Our server forgot one drink and to bring our waters. We ordered the Tavern Dip and a Tavern Burger, which was just okay.

Food was outstanding! Best wings in Pitt and one of the best ever!!! Service was quick and with a smile. Loved the seating. Cozy.
