What a totally awesome and cool secret oasis along the Allegheny River above the old Lock#2 location. This is private property so you need to visit through Doors Open Pittsburgh or a garden tour. The venue used to be available as a BNB and a wedding venue, but not since COVID. If you have an opportunity to visit, don't hesitate! Beautiful gardens, ponds, chickens, a meditation area and more!

This place is the epitome of the phrase, "hidden gem", and was the perfect spot for my wife and I to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Steve and Jody, the owners, couldn't have been more accommodating. When you enter the front gate, you are transported to a beautifully landscaped slice of riverfront. The zen vibe from the entire place is very peaceful and calm. Hot tub, swimming pool and a meditation hut with a hammock are scattered throughout this lush environment. We stayed in one of the two houseboats on the river, which was a totally unique experience. Steve and Jody even left our breakfast of fresh fruit, granola, yogurt, and poppy seed bread just outside the door to the boat in the morning. We will stay there again and highly recommend this lovely little jewel on the Allegheny.

The setting and location of this place is amazing, it's a beautiful property with it's own private dock. I attended a wedding there and the ceremony was great. The only negative experience I had was with the owner Steve, he was rushing around in a highly agitated state for most of the night. He was impolite and rude to a number of people. There are a pool and a hottub which apparently don't come with the rental of the whole property and when we went to use them Steve was a real dick. Jody was great though! If having weddings at your fancy nice property is stressful, don't do it.

A cute little bed and breakfast located right on the Allegheny River. They have pleasant landscaping, a covered indoor pool, hammock, chickens, and chairs right by the river to enjoy the view. I have not actually spent the night here, but would give it a try if I was coming to Pittsburgh. The only possible drawback is that it's located fairly close to Washington Boulevard, so there is some traffic noise on that side of the property.

Choderwood was a magical experience. Food for the soul. Every moment was inspiring and I felt like I had healing after staying there. The Allegheny River is so romantic. There were moments when the water was so still and quiet. The sunset was also exuberantly beautiful. Choderwood is a timeless paradise. There are many places to explore and meditate. There is a beautiful hut that over looks the river. It was one of my favorite hangouts. There's a lovely hammock for chillaxing. Everything was perfect. My ultimate favorite was the pool. The pool has an elegant charm. Jody and Steve are awesome hosts. Super sweet. This was definitely a fun adventure worth exploring.

From the moment we walked in the front gate, we were transported to a magical getaway only a few feet from civilization. Although we live only 10 minutes away, we wanted a special place to celebrate our anniversary...and Choderwood did not disappoint. We were warmly welcomed by hosts Jody and Steve before we settled in to the BoHo houseboat. We swam in the cool and refreshing quasi-greenhouse pool; we sat in the quiet and serene meditation hut; we relaxed in hammocks and floated on tree swings; we wandered on the stone paths; we explored the garden and chicken coop; and, we soaked in the hot tub. (The only thing we didn't manage to cram in was a bonfire by the river.) Having brought along a bag full of gourmet goodies and two bottles of wine, we spent the rest of our time just sitting on the roof of our boat simply enjoying the sights and sounds of boats on the river and a sunset on the horizon. The BoHo offered many nooks and crannies for sitting and sleeping, as well as everything we needed in the kitchen and bathroom to make our time away from home feel like second nature. We left calm, rejuvenated, and happy. Words cannot express how much we loved our mere 20 hours at Choderwood. I want to, alternately, tell everyone and no one about Choderwood, as I want our friends to experience this Pittsburgh Narnia but I wish we could keep it as our own little secret. We hope to always find occasions--or, no reason at all--to visit again!

Jody and Steve have created a rare oasis of zen tranquility and beauty right here in the 'Burgh. It's difficult to give it an adequate description compared to the feeling one has "being" there. It truly is a re(treat) that totally encourages one to slow down, breath, and "be". Jody and Steve have a true gift for Aloha and of enhancing or creating space that is so calming, so artful, so meditative. This is the most serene eco spot I've found in the 'Burgh with the Allegheney rolling silently and majestically right in your backyard. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

I have a culinary tour company in Pittsburgh and Choderwood is always the top stop on my food tours. The owners, Jody and Steve, are wonderful and accommodating. Their property is gorgeous and peaceful, their food is fresh and delicious and the location is perfect for Pittsburgh activities. Their new houseboats are a unique way to spend a night and I can't wait to give them a try. I love this place!!

The pictures of this place really don't do it any justice. It truly is a hidden gem in Pittsburgh a very special place to celebrate big events or just getaway for a weekend...even if you live in the Burgh. I can't speak to the houseboat or the accommodations for sleeping since I was there for a party but the grounds of the property and the thought and care they spent in putting this sanctuary together is truly remarkable. I really loved the stone walking path over the pond. Every nook on this property had a very special energetic.
