Connected to the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, the Carnegie Music Hall is an absolutely gorgeous venue. They do lots of events and weddings, and honestly I can see why it's such a popular space. I attended a lecture by author and Harvard professor Jill Lepore as a part of the Ten Evenings series by Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures, and it was wonderful.GA tickets for the 2nd tier balcony were $15, which is a steal. The view from up there is great-- I truly don't think there's a bad seat in the house. Jill Lepore is an amazing speaker, and she delivered a thoughtful and timely reflection on depictions of America in art throughout history (and somehow managed to squeeze an overview of American history into just 45 minutes). Before the show, snacks, drinks, books, and other goodies were available for purchase in the lobby. After the show Jill Lepore stayed to autograph copies of her book, programs, etc.It was such a great event-- I'll definitely be returning to see Ottessa Moshfegh's lecture in February.

This place is a gem! There is not really a bad seat in the house. With two balconies, it's a pretty vertical space, so the last row is not too far back. Acoustically, it's nice and warm, without much natural reverberation, and dead silent (no blowing air sounds, nothing). It sounds more like a small club than a bit auditorium. And it's beautifully ornate, like only good old theaters are. Even the lobby and washrooms are cool. One Tip: the parking deck behind it is pretty slow to exit after an event here. You can self-pay at a pay-station in the attached Carnegie Museum, but have to wait in the same line to exit behind all the people scrounging the ashtray for quarters. This to find street parking or somewhere else if you want to make a quick get-away.

I've been here several times to see performances ranging from Morrissey, Green Porno, Michael Chabon and more. What an amazing piece of architecture. Absolutely beautiful. The sound and layout of this theatre make for a pleasant experience no matter the event. Another piece of history for Pittsburgh to take pride in.

A wonderful venue for any kind of music! This ol' place has great acoustics, and whether it's the Baroque Society or an evening with Lyle Lovett, the music will be great. With the exception of the support pillars here and there, not a bad seat in the house...and the hall architecture gets the most out of the music. A terrific, timeless music hall...one of Pittsburgh's gems.

The first star is because 1 star is the minimum rating one can give; and, the second one is because the acoustics are fantastic. The missing three is because the design is so atrociously bad, if one is halfway or more back on the balcony, they can't see half of the stage. The worst offender in this regards was the Nick Cave concert there last summer: even Cave himself commented on it, realizing that he couldn't see the audience above if he was at or even just near the edge of the stage (which happened frequently), saying something to the effect of, "What a horribly impractical design."This wouldn't be quite so horrible if tickets purchased for these rows said "limited view of stage", or something along those lines, with the price being appropriately reduced.

Beautiful. I went to see a friend sing in the holiday performance of the Renaissance City Choir, which was whimsical and touching. The acoustics are great and it's a gorgeous building. We had no trouble finding parking on the street. At this particular event, there were cash-only bars and refreshments stands, and the closest ATM is two blocks away. Might want to remedy that. Over all, though: Check it out.

What a beautiful venue period. Nestled in the Carnegie Museum of Art how can the venue not be beautiful. I did not see a musical performance and now I won't to come back. I was there for a conference meeting and it hosted the event perfectly.

This is attached to the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Carnegie Natural History Museum, hence the identical address.Once again, I'm surprised at the lack of reviews for arts venues. Have you seen the '80s movie Flashdance? Remember the exterior of the ballet school/performance hall? That's Carnegie Music Hall.I've attended several Drue Heinz Lectures (part of Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures, http://www.pittsburghlectures.org/), when some pretty big-deal authors come to talk about their writing. The Music Hall also hosts, well, music events, which you can look up through Ticketmaster--just don't get it confused with the Carnegie Music Hall of Homestead--this building is in Oakland.I'm in love with the marble foyer. The performance hall is smaller than Heinz Hall's, but it's still impressive in that ornate old-fashioned way. Since I first visited, a pipe dream of mine has been to sit in one of the Music Hall's opera boxes.Even though I might be wearing jeans and sneakers, just being in a place like this makes me feel a little more like a classy lady.

The renovated Hall is wonderful! Seats are comfortable and spaced appropriately for present-day humans. The Hall still retains all of the elegance of the original. Well done!!!
