Calaveras Mexican Bar & Grill

Not sure what the deal is but pretty much every restaurant I drove by around the Hollywood Casino was dead except this one. I travel a LOT and eat out constantly and when you try a restaurant that has ZERO business at 7pm experience tells me it is going to be pile of disappointment. This appears to be the only non-fast food place that had more than a couple cars out front. In fact, they probably had 25-30 cars. Food was surprisingly good and the service was good in spite of the kitchen being slow on my food. Pet peeve in that they only have Diet Coke no Coke Zero.

A serious whole in the wall...but great genuine Mexican food, service and Margaritas! I had enchiladas and a Wild berry Margarita! Excellent and reasonable!!!

Started out a little shaky, went up to the door 11:16 and it was locked (opened up at 11), with two employees standing around.Service was mediocre at best just super slow.The enchiladas were absolutely amazing just wished the had a little more flavor. The queso was out of this world however the chips that were served with it tasted like three day old stale chips that had been left out.All in all not a terrible joint to eat, just have to work on better customer service, and bolder flavors. There's too many Mexican restaurants out there to be lacking in these two categories.

We first hit this spot during the covid shut down as they had terrific family meal selections for $25. Three years alter and the deals are still in place. Call ahead ordering with drive-thru pick up makes it a fast and efficient experience. Customer service is always pleasant and courteous but sometimes there could be longer wait times that some may complain about. Not this guy. The deals are worth the wait times. 12-tacos, (6-chicken, 6-steak) still warm homemade tortilla chips, large queso and large salsa for $30. Would have been $25 however there is a $5 up-charge for steak. This fed the 5-of us (daughter will only eat the chips and queso). The tacos themselves are pretty damn good. Meats are seasoned just right. The only downfall is that they tend to get a tad soggy on the ride home but nothing that is worthy of a complaint. I'd say overall deserves four stars but they earn the 5th simply for the value. We will continue to order there and take advantage of this great deal.

What a great place! Walking distance to all the truck stops and hotels, and right across the street from a race track- type casino, Calaveras doesn't disappoint!Obviously I got the street tacos, and wow! They brought me 3 piping hot street tacos stuffed with steak- thats it. The onions, cilantro is on the side, with tomatoes, an added bonus.Also came with rice and beans, which was a first for me. All the street tacos ove gotten over the years, this was the first place that brought me sides! Margaritas are how I like them, strong. The staff interacts w the locals as if they were fond family members, something surprisingly heartwarming for this deep in a red state. A great place. I hope to come back!

We've eaten here many times, and I cannot rave enough. Juan takes his time in making sure everything tastes the same every time you come in. Consistency is one of my favorite parts. I cannot say enough how delicious the cabbage coleslaw is the best in the area. I rarely get the steak at Mexican restaurants, but the way they cook theirs, I've genuinely never had anything like it before. I make my steak tacos. It's by far my favorite dish. This leans more towards authentic Mexican as it's the closest I've had to the food when I was in Mexico. At times they can be a wait, especially on weekends but hands down in my top three in the area

Tasteless. Salsa tasted like ketchup, chips were cold and unsalted. Guacamole was brown. The burritos were microwaved hard and chewy on the edges. Beans tasted like a can. Chicken in taco salad was cold. Queso wasn't fully melted there were chunks of cheese in it. Would not recommend.

Food was excellent, value of the meal was great along with a Modelo Cerveza. Positive experience... For sure.

Calaveras catered my gender reveal party and it was awesome. Juan was very easy to work with and went the extra mile to deliver the food. Food was a hit and always good!!
