"Friendly, fast and delicious! I really enjoyed the diner vibe. The staff was very friendly. My order was ready in under a minute. The house chili sauce is rich and just a little salty, but in a good way. Steamed buns are soft.I'll definitely visit again!"
"Was here a decade ago when I first moved to the area and wasn't impressed.10 years later, it's worse. Underwhelming hot dogs. Ketchup-y chili sauce. Stained-up, disgusting drop panel ceiling. Most of the booths filthy. Teenage Waitstaff Of The Living Dead were barely conscious or mentally present.Food is cheap and the fries were good.Avoid.Jib-Jab is coasting on the stank fumes of yesteryear."
"I had to do an update since my original review. Especially since some things have happened in the span of years between my reviews. A few years back, Coney Island wasn't doing too well. Which is bad for Johnstown, as it has been a community staple and one of the few reasons to go to Downtown Johnstown. I'm not absolutely sure of all the specifics, but the family that owned it passed it onto their son (I think) and then the business kind of got ran into the ground. When the news hit that Coney Island was to close, the community felt that. But, all is not lost, someone came in and saved the day. They bought the business and reopened to the public just the way they had left things and with a few improvements. The food is still spectacular. I will always come here when I am near it. Pop in for either a quick eat-in lunch or take home meal. When I say that the food is spectacular it can come off as an understatement. They did not change a thing about the way the hot dogs, chili, or burgers are prepared. That is the charm of this place.I have yet to come here to try out breakfast, but I am fine with popping in whenever I have the time. You must try the Coney Dogs and a Sundowner. I think what puts these over the top is the chili. That chili is something that feels like you need to bathe in it. It is comforting and satisfying. And the fries, amazing! Any place that prepares the fries as you order them is tops in my book. Not only are they prepared fresh, the are fresh cut. Get them topped with the chili and cheese and it is a meal all by itself. I swear on that. The improvements they have made are a true compliment to this place. They now accept card payments. No long a 'Cash Only' establishment. This alone has upped my visitations here. They also offer delivery as well now. They adapted to the pandemic and I honestly think they have benefited from it all.I can honestly say that this is my favorite eatery in all of Johnstown. It's nostalgic and welcoming."
"This place is tasty. I enjoy a good chili dog, and the Hot Dog Shoppe did not disappoint. The food was delicious. I really enjoyed the fries, as they weren't greasy at all. The staff wasn't exactly friendly, but they weren't rude either. It has a drive-through, but we chose to dine inside. The seating is mainly booths, with some larger tables. They have a nice selection of sauces. I tried some of the sweet chili on my fries, and it was good. If you're in the area, I'd definitely recommend stopping here. The price was incredible. We all had 2 hot dogs, a side, and a drink. It wound up costing less than $10 per person, which is a steal."
"First time here and to wheeling! My SO and I love to travel and try new places and things. We fooded in like a few places inside the centre market and landed here. Yum!! First round I got a coney hot dog with mustard (hold the onions) and sloppy sauce which I couldn't keep a straight face as I asked what it was. It's a really delicious chili that's only meat and no beans. If the hot dogs are good you know everything else is gonna rock! My SO got a burger (I forget which one, I think kraut?) And it was huge and really good! Their fries are yummy too, they season them very well. So also got the cowboy nuggets which are $7 and you get like 4 nuggets. Which I think was a bit pricey for what it was. He liked them. It was corn, jalapeños and cheese deep fried. I'm always on the hunt for good Coleslaw. Found it! It's not too sweet and has the perfect balance of flavor. I also got the pulled pork sandwich and it was good. Has a less sweet and more of a smokey flavor. We sat down and ate a bit and actually went back to order more hot dogs! The people were super nice and we were glad to discover this place. I highly recommend coming here!"
"A step back in time. Same products decades later and still hits the spot. Quick. Easy. Friendly. Hot dog with everything is good. chili onions"
"I love this place for the hotdogs and root beer. Great little local spot. Enough said."
"My son and I love this spot. The hot dogs are great, the service is good, and most importantly it's consistent. If you are in SC and want a good meal that is simple and tasty then you need to give this spot a try."
"Fast friendly service! I had never been there and they explained what they have and whats popular. I got the loaded dogs and they were really great! The meatsauce wasnt greasy at all I loved it. We will be back."

FOOD = 3SERVICE = 2. You will wait.PRICE = 3AMBIANCE = 3. Clean.WOULD EAT HERE AGAIN = I would give it one more try. The first impression was so so.But I have found once you know what to expect you to adjust.I would not dissuade anyone from eating here. The service was challenged due to not enough help. Though in a short time more staff showed up. Food was a bit salty to my taste. I had a ham and cheese olmet. It took time for food.People waited in line. The ambiance is a diner. Nothing unacceptable. If you want more than one cup of coffee, it could be challenged if a crowd. The breakfast menu is limited.

After a day of thrifting and before heading back to reality we needed to have a bite to eat. This was a welcomed sight because of my love of hot dogs. I will search wide and far for a good hot dog place.I love how people describe this as a dive. No, that's just not accurate. This place may have that vibe, but what I got was something straight out of the 80's. Remember when it was those colors that you thought looked dirty, but they were just dark colors. That's what this place has. I was trying to place the building as if it was repurposed or something. With that signage out front with the weather vane on top, looks like it could have been any number of older chain restaurants at any given time during that decade. But I need to stop, I'm distracting myself from the food.It was no question when I came here that I was going to have a hot dog, so I didn't even look at anything else on the menu, well except for a quick glance to see the sides. I got myself two hot dogs, one with just mayo and onions and the other with chili and cheese. Don't ask me why, but those two choices area usually my go to when at a hot dog place. The hot dogs, amazing. I really enjoyed that they were cooked on a grill, put in a fresh bun and topped however you liked. That chili cheese dog was life. After I finished it I said to my better half that I should have gotten another of just that. As for the fries, yeah, they were good. Fresh cut, fresh fried, French Fries.Service was top notched. They fulfilled everything we needed. I also liked the array of condiments and seasonings that you can add after the fact, so you can really upgrade your options after.

We were at the market visiting Wheeling and decided to try a couple of the West Virginia Dogs. They were good for the price. The hot dog quality was average and they could have been hotter. The sloppy sauce and Cole slaw were good. The atmosphere is cute...nice bar to sit and eat. We would definitely get them again if in town shopping. Tito was there cooking and could t have been more friendly!

My boyfriend and I stopped at one of his favorite lunch places when he was in college at W&J. Shorty's is a great pit stop for lunch when you're driving through Washington. The staff was very hospitable and took our orders right away. We both got two hot dogs with chili & onions. Overall I'd give the hot dogs a 3/5. The bun was too soft for my liking, but the chili and onions were very tasty. We couldn't help but notice how friendly everyone was and although we weren't regular customers they treated us as such. I would definitely stop here again when looking for a quick bite passing through Washington.

This place is just that a Hot Dog Joint. So they serve you quick and the food is just what you would expect. The star of this place is the Chili it has a slight sweet taste but goes great with the dog. I would get your dog with everything and call it a day.

"A Wash, PA landmark. You can't visit Washington without a stop to Shorty's. This location (Wolfdale) is open later than the original, uptown location, and it has more seating. This is a no-frills kinda place with a small menu- burgers, hotdogs, fries, and hot beef, chicken, and fish sandwiches. The classic Shortys meal is a fry with gravy (they have the best gravy) and a hotdog with everything- onion, homemade chili sauce, and the most perfect dehydrated, diced onions. I usually opt for a dog with just onions and the fries with gravy. It's the same every time. Food comes fast, just a few minutes after you order it. It definitely fits the old school lunch counter vibe.I would also like to give a shout-out to Ben, a cook and sometimes manager on duty! He works everyday and is always making hotdogs or ringing people up with a smile."
"First off, upon entry, I was taken by how very neat and clean the place is. I hope they keep this up.Items sampled included their Chili Dog, Cheese Dog, Bacon Cheese Burger, Fries, and a Super Pretzel with Cheese. The dogs were good. Nothing spectacular, or "different" from any place that served "a good dog". Some of our buns were --slightly-- stale, but other than that, there was no issue with them. There was a quaint little toppings bar that consisted of mayo, pickles, relish, onions, hot sauce, ketchup, mustard, and brown mustard. The burger was good, too. I was pleased with the size and the seasoning on it.The fries were good. They are fresh cut, are given in a good amount, and were crispy and NOT greasy. The only thing I wish they had was some seasoning on them. Hoping in the future they can include something other than just salt and pepper on their little toppings bar, like a seasoning salt or something like that. All in all, if I were to be in the area again, and were in the mood for a burger or dog, I would stop here. Fair prices, and good portions."
"Make sure to INSIST that your dog is "IN A BOX"Otherwise, it will come wrapped in a SAD, WAX paper burrito. Just a cold mushy cylinder of food. ASK FOR A BOX!They're too cheap to get actual hot dog boxes (for a hot dog restaurant), so just order all dogs "IN A BOX." Even if you order just one. You DO NOT want what comes in that MUSHY wax paper.."
"A nostalgic treat. You especially should try their chilli dog, the best in the city. This place is definitely old school, and the prices are reasonable. Featured in Rick Sebak's 2013 Documentary, North Side Sandwiches (under the name of Steve's New York Hot Dog Shop) the restaurant has a new owner and name, but still delivers a classic hot dog."
"Decent little diner. The food selection is alright, typical fair: hotdogs, hamburgers, etc., but not an ideal place if you have dietary restrictions like me. I am vegetarian, but i am also non celiac gluten intolerance along with some other issues. Some of the people i came with ordered a salad. Its iceberg lettuce, but it is of pretty decent size. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal and the staff is friendly enough."
"OMG in love w this place when I visit. Jay's in Boardman used to be my go to, but this...THIS is much better, w less grease, and HELLLOO....did someone say waffle fries? Waffle anything is always better. Highly recommend."
"Awesome Hot Dog Joint! The food was great, tried one with medium chili & nacho cheese; one with everything and slaw; and one with medium chili, ketchup and onions. Fresh brewed iced tea to wash it down. Great price too! The staff were friendly and quick! I definitely recommend this place!"
"I finally took the time to drive out to the Lake to try a Walzzy Dog. Worth the time for my first trip - which has inspired more trips in my future. I love Hot Dogs and they have many options from which to choose - but I alway stick with a standard, Chilli, Mustard, Onions. There are 3 types of sauce to choose from by level of heat and I picked medium. It had a nice kick, just right. Fries were good with the house seasoning. I was not a fan of the corn, but it is also winter time, so it gets another chance this summer. The people were very nice and helpful. I know they support one of our local HS's - so they also deserve our support. It's in a plaza with parking - easy to find, good food, nice price, pleasant people, very clean ---- yummy"
"Hot dogs with sauce for $1? Yes please! We were visiting Sharon for Water Fire Sharon and had originally planned on going to Quaker Steak. We stumbled uponn this little shop on our way over and decided to have dinner there instead. It was a fantastic decision. The menu is basic, but there is a decent variety. But since it is a hot dog shop, why not enjoy their namesake. The Hot Dog shop also features home made pies and rice pudding, so save room for dessert. I'm not in Sharon very often, but the next time I visit, the Hot Dog Shop will be on my list of places to stop."
"Great place to watch sports! Burgers are great and not too filling, leaving plenty of room for cold drinks."
"Little cafe, big portions! It's one of those places with a small menu focused on their specialties: burgers, hot dogs, and getting fancy with diner food. While we were waiting on our burger order, I asked about the special items they had on a little chalkboard; one of things was a limeade soda, but the main flavor is from the sugar cane. The proprietors gave me a little sample... there's a very specific kind of molasses I get in Missouri that's called Sorghum, anyway it has that rich woody/rooty flavor. It's interesting, try it!The burgers are MASSIVE! Like... distend your jaw like a snake massive My buddy and I order the Venezuelan Burger. They added some meat to it. What meat? Every meat! It had pulled pork, bacon, chicken, egg, and of course ground beef! Also lettuce, tomato, fried potato sticks (shoestring fries?), corn?! I do like that it had a spring mix of lettuce rather than just iceberg lettuce... more minerals this way. It was very generous, epic, and a lot of fun. The other menu options are more familiar bacon cheese burgers and bleu cheese burger, hot dogs, but clearly the menu was designed by passion and you've gotta try the chef's special at least once.VERY FILLING!"
"Hot chili dogs are awesome if you like spicy. Friendly staff and great service. Food is fresh building is clean. Only complaint is they need to stay open later."
"I've been keeping my eye on this place near my Mom's house to see when they would be open. They finally are, so I gave them a try today. They're called "Heck Ya!", and features mostly hot dogs, with Italian sausage and kielbasa thrown into the mix, as is expected in Youngstown.I went with one Super Dog and one Filly Dog. The Filly Sauce is what they call chili sauce. The Super Dog is a hot dog with Filly Sauce, onions, and jalapeño coleslaw. The Filly Dog is your basic chili dog with chili, mustard and onions. Both were very good, using Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs as the vessel for the slaw and sauce. The slaw was good, but not too spicy even with the jalapeños. The chili had was on the meatier side, mild and had a good tangy flavor. Service was friendly and they're still working out some kinks as they just recently opened. Was it worth it? Heck Ya!"
