"So the legend goes that the original owner of this course was denied entry into a local and private country club, so what better way than to get back at a bunch of pretentious elites than build your own, bigger and better course. And to top it all off, to build a castle, Me Lord!!A castle!! simply brilliant in every respect, and it is a great place to enjoy a sundowner or have a bite to eat. Olde Stonewall Golf Club has great atmosphere and it always brings a smile to my face when I visit family in Western PA."
"I was here at Hickory Heights during the winter months for a pop-up holiday experience. I don't understand why it is "pop up" except for the decorations, and it was very nicely decorated. The drinks were fruity, fun, and festive. Food was the regular menu, and the flatbread that I had was delicious. I love the location, tucked away in the middle of the residential area. All of the guests we spoke with were very friendly and welcoming! I'd return for sure."
"I really liked this course. Yes there were tight fairways and yes there were hills. We are in the Allegheny mountains. The greens were picturesque and well maintained. It was really a beautiful course to play. Even saw a doe and two fawns on the back nine. Very enjoyable. Will be back."
"This place is always very nice. I don't really understand the bad reviews. The owner is extremely nice and has been accommodating to my family when they are going to the restaurant or recently when we had a birthday party. The staff was extremely nice, even helping us trick my grandmother into going in for her "surprise". The view is stunning and the food is very good. My husband even said "this is the best food from a golf course I have had" (high praise for him). The building itself is very handicap friendly (we had a wheelchair with us) and has interesting decor. The area we were in had a great deal of Asian art. I don't have anything bad to really say, except try it out."
"This might be one of the best public courses in the tri county area. The owners have transformed what was the craptastic Country Side Golf Course into a top teir course. The course is well maintained, great drainage, paved cart paths, irrigated fairways. The restuarant is very good too. They have a nice selection and great prices. Some of the best wedding soup and chicken wings in the valley. I try to get a round in every time I am back in the area. They do a fantastic job hosting outings too!"
"We come here pretty frequently to hit golf balls. There are many, many spaces so you'll never be left looking for one. It's always pretty busy, too. The pro shop there is great, and the staff members are super knowledgable. I just signed up for lessons, so I'll be sure to update my review after a few of them!"

First, I cannot disagree that the layout is great, conditioning is excellent and the course scenic. But they're charging warm weather destination resort rates to play a round in the middle of nowhere between Youngstown and Pittsburgh. That probably explains the dearth of players despite the fact we were there the week of the US Open. Cranberry Heights is less than half the price, and despite not being near the level of course as Olde Stonewall, it's a much better value. My advice would be to visit if you can snag a discounted rate, or if someone else is picking up the tab.

We enjoy Hickory Heights food, service, and Happy Hour at least once a week. They have exceptional Happy Hour specials, and the food is outstanding. The service is exceptional, and the staff is friendly and responsive. We highly recommend this restaurant. Open to the public.

I have had a couple of events here and the food, decor, and VIEW were amazing. I'm not sure what the bad reviews are for. Some are really old. I think the rest were from drunks who got cut off. Give this place a shot. You will thank me later.

I'm a fan of this place for sure! First of all, it's a golf course, so I'll cover that first. Regarding that: it's really inexpensive and the course is nicely maintained. Can't give it a full 5-Stars simply based on the fact that there's. NO SAND-TRAPS, which makes this course a bit less challenging than most serious players would desire. Seeing that it's inexpensive, the pace of play can often be slow, since there's no shortage of retiree gold groups that play with 10-12 guys at a time. The restaurant/bar: Bar prices are fair and there's a nice selection. The food is quality and again, the prices are fair. There's also an outside bar, which opened in this past year. It's really nice and has flatscreens and ceiling fans, which is an ideal setting on a nice summer day. Will definitely go back and would definitely recommend.

If you want golf lessons this is a wonderful place to go. Personally, I found it to be a great value and the instructor I had was terrific. Debbie was patient and gave really great tips and information for a semi beginner like me. I left knowing exactly what I needed to work on and feeling confident that I could join any group of golfers this summer. I really can't thank her enough. I'm ready to have a great time this season.

The pros are that this course has a very nice clubhouse and beautiful views of Oakland and downtown Pittsburgh. It's also affordable -- but, you get what you pay for. The course itself is not very well marked, there are no paths and some of the holes are very steep (#2 especially). For anyone that has trouble walking, I do not recommend this course. There are also no golf carts, walking with pull carts only (they do have some available). There are no fairways or sand traps on any of the holes. We were waiting on tees multiple times, sometimes 2-3 groups back. They need to be better about tee times especially on weekends, there should not be so many pairs and single golfers at peak times. The play just gets so slow. It's a convenient location for those close to the city but there are so many better public courses a little ways out that are worth the trip.

The course itself is fun to play and really pretty. The price point is decent. Around $30 a person for 9. I wish the location of the course was easier to get to though, there isn't really a direct highway or route from Pittsburgh to the course. (Not that I knocked off any stars for this reason but make sure you give yourself some time to get out there). The upkeep of the greens is average maybe a bit above. I found both times I've gone and both carts rented, that the carts breaks are really touchy and annoying, and the paths are really bumpy too. The shooting range is decent and reasonably priced. I like that you tee up or hit from grass rather than fake grass. It helps improve your game more and work or a variety of circumstances rather than hitting from short fake grass.

"The Bob O'Connor Golf Course at Schenley Park is one of those hidden gems that, for some reason or another, doesn't get the credit it deserves. I've played there quite a few times this past summer and was blown away by the value. For $10 (9 holes) or $15 (18 holes) you get a view of the Pittsburgh skyline and some great golf. While it definitely isn't country club quality with turf tee boxes and the occasional over-the-road or fence obstacles, the value really can't be beat. For this price, I was really expecting the worst but was really surprised by the quality of the fairways and greens. Whether you're a low handicap player or a newbie, I think everyone would have a good time.Just watch out for balls, some days it feels like you're standing in a shooting gallery. 5-stars for an unbeatable value."
"This is my usual spot for golf. They have two courses, Wood side and Lake side. Both are kept really well...even during this rainy summer they are not totally flooded and you still can golf with ease.Prices are reasonable! Best deal is Twilight golf. Nine holes for $18 with a cart. They also have different passes available to purchase. I have the twilight pass which is $169. Good entire calendar year. You pay for cart each time ($7) or walk for no extra charge. What I never understand here and other course is if I get a cart, it's $7 (here), but if my friend golfs with me in my cart it's $7 additional. We could both get our own carts, however I feel like if you share the cart, it should be discounted between the two. Anyways...I'd like to think I'd walk, but who would hold my beer?Drinks are priced well and they have some great food. Wing night, daily specials on drinks and food. The decor is older, but the service is great. Pro shop has a small selection...more ladies' stuff than typical pro shops. I always wonder why they don't have more ladies' apparel. We shop!Lots of clinics and event nights to get new golfers in and plenty of leagues. What I really like about this course is that it's really women friendly. Some courses still haven't realized that Title IX is in place. Butler's is with the times on this. Grab your driver and hit a few rounds at this place."
"This is the best value for a golf course in the area. Oakbrook is a public course that's maintained as well as any private course. It's a very open course - not a lot of rough, and not too many hazards. It's an excellent place for beginners to learn the game.I always had fun playing at Oakbrook. The cost to play is about half of what I paid at other courses, and I've enjoyed Oakbrook more than the others. The driving range is also inexpensive - about 75% what you'd pay elsewhere. It's a slight drive from Johnstown, but it's definitely worth it."
"Awesome place to golf at the clubhouse is very nice the course could've been better but everything else is amazing."
"This is a very historic course with a beautiful view. We stayed at the Summit Resort, and decided to come here one evening. If you stay at the resort, you can play for free but the special is only on weekdays not weekends. We were told otherwise by the resort, so I chose to sit this one out! My husband played, and enjoyed the course very much. It's a bit confusing to get around, but the staff was helpful in showing us around. The course was going some renovations and was a little rough while we were there. The views are spectacular, and it was really cool to see all of the history (old ski lift) that was here from many years ago. I would recommend if you're staying in the Laurel Highlands!"
"Great course that is well maintained, flat with nicely groomed fairways. The sand traps have real sand that you can dig into that makes traps easier to hit out of. The greens are top notch with mostly smooth level surfaces but still challenging. I give the course 4 stars because the clubhouse did not sell beer. Sounds petty but most golfers want a cold beer while they golf"
