"Often times when I go to the Original Farmer's Market near Cecil I tend to miss out on the "hot items" in this case being honeycrisp apples. Simmon's Farm is located in nearby McMurray, PA. There is a sign as you enter that says "no public restrooms." They carry a good selection of produce that you will find directly from their farm and from other places as well. The sell freshly baked pies along with a host of other goodies such as cookies and popcorn. As the season begins to change apples are just beginning to get in the forefront but right now there's a vast number of tomatoes available if you are into canning. They sell plants and they make their own cider. There is a sign which will enable you to pick your own pumpkin directly from the farm but that will probably be in Oct.They sell some of the convenience foods I have seen in grocery stores along with their own cider. It is wise however, to know your prices because not everything is at a better rate than at the supermarket. I looked at the cantaloupes and thought for $4.00 a melon they looked overripe. The tomatoes however, were marked with a white label as soft which would be used for cooking. They have a lovely greenhouse and a beautiful selection of white and traditional pumpkins if you want to get a jump-start on your baking or for Halloween. Everything is clearly marked. If you want to buy corn on the cob they sell it as bagged for 6 ears or a dozen. Individual is sold as well but I really wasn't looking for that.I was pleased to be able to pick up my honey-crisp apples which were a descent size to tide me over for the next week or so. They have their own parking lot and it is a easy on and off from either side of Rt 19 South."
"Simmons Farm is a family-owned farm that has operated for several decades. They have an on-site store that sells produce that they picked earlier in the day as well as plants such as flowers and Christmas trees. The farm also offers many activities, such as hayrides, apple-picking, flower-picking, pumpkin-picking, a petting zoo, mazes, slides, a butterfly house, etcetera. (See my attached photos to see what activities were available on the day that I went.)My husband and I arrived at 9:30 AM on a Saturday, and the parking lot was already getting full. An employee told us where to park our vehicle. Another employee kindly directed us to the apple orchard, the activity in which we were primarily interested. At the orchard, another employee politely asked us how we were doing and asked us what size of bag we wanted. Currently, the prices for u-pick apples range from $9 for a 1/2 peck (which is ~12-15 apples) to $40 for a bushel (which is ~100 apples). I felt grateful that they accept payment via credit card.My husband and I selected the 1/2 peck of apples. The apples that are ripe on a given day are marked with a yellow rope. On that day, the available apples were Fuji and Querina (a cross between a Golden Delicious and a Jonathan). Many of the trees either had no apples or had apples that were very high up, so my husband and I walked farther into the orchard to find apples. We had fun with finding our apples and pulling them off the branches. The other activity that we did was visiting the petting zoo. The zoo was smaller than we had expected. It had some goats, sheep, and chickens. Feed was available for purchase in the nearby store. At home, we ate the apples. The apples had blemishes, but they were crispy and juicy, and they tasted sweet and tart."

While exploring is fun, my time exploring their corn maze might become limited as there's friends who don't enjoy corn mazes & I want to enjoy cornhole or enjoy the view from their shaded pavilion. Hilltop pavilion is available for rent, inquire with staff or on their website. Feeling hungry after my hilltop experience warranted a deli visit where hot soups & an entrees offered fresh. Menu rotates daily & available the day I spent there was Chicken or Beef Noodle soup. Sizes from Cup to Pint are available. I ordered a cup of beef noodle. An in-store dining area is available so customers may enjoy their meal. Their dining area kept maintained & cleaned making meals enjoyable & pleasant to experience. My beef noodle contained no off nor sour taste containing nothing but a flavorful blend consisting of tender noodles beef & excellent flavor combinations & perfect seasoning along with flavorful beef broth all piping hot. Garden Dept. here rivals nationally known competitors stocking beautiful plants & an array of gardening items that's better kept organized & easier to find. Staff working gardening is well knowledgeable & informed with their plants/products & on occasion is knowledgeable with gardening advice. Helping home gardeners or landscapers create that scenic view at home bringing that garden dream to life. Plants offered from their greenhouse add those perfect touches also. Seasoned gardeners are easily noticeable sharing their stories with staff who inquired with that gardener possibly needing assistants or sharing their knowledge with those garden shopping. Being observant to this will enhance your gardening experience & further your knowledge. With my experience it has. Observing the stall displays offering fresh produce grown on site or locally produced growers take pride in their crops offering simply the best. Selling the ripest tomatoes & berries or sourced on site corn. Living up to farmers market quality & prices minus their days & hours as Trax Farms is open everyday. My personal purchases include their corn potatoes or onions & have never disappointed me. Made every meal I cooked stupendous. Besides their produce Apple Cider's another favorite purchase for me. It Contains low tartness, tasteful sweetness, and is tasty. Other depts. have me intrigued & will review those upon a future visit.Be Sure to like on FB & Tell a Friendhttps://www.facebook.com/TraxFarms/"
"Great place for the freshest produce! I bought a quart of their homegrown peaches and they were so sweet. They also had a selection of vegetables, such as peppers, green beans, tomatoes, and corn on the cob. They have a greenhouse and a corn maze."
"This is one of my favorite farmers market in the city, and I'm not just saying that because I live in the northside lol. This market runs every Friday afternoon from 3-7 PM. They have a wide variety of vendors each week ranging from produce, to prepared foods, to candles, etc. I also love that it runs until the middle of November. The location itself is ideal because it's in Allegheny Commons Park, which is primarily tree lined, so there is lots of shade! If you're in the area, you should definitely make a stop at this farmers market to check it out!"
"Yarnick's Farm is family-owned and -operated and has been in business for about 40 years. They grow vegetables, raise farm animals, and sell various vegetables, fruits, meats, dairy products, and home products in their market. They also sell their products through local grocery stores and the food-delivery service Harvie. From this farm, I bought cauliflower, zucchini, cucumbers, and spaghetti sauce, and they were an average quality. The cauliflower was a large size. The zucchini and cucumbers had more blemishes than I prefer but tasted good. The spaghetti sauce was their heirloom kind, and it tasted slightly sweet but very good. The prices of these foods were moderate, about a couple to several dollars each. Perhaps I will buy and taste-test their grain-fed black angus beef next..."
"This is one of my favorite local hidden gems to get some of the best fresh baked goods with the home grown Sand Hill Berries. I highly recommend their chocolate raspberry cookies, and any of their pies. (Make sure you AT LEAST try the raspberry! Go early though, or order ahead...they sale out..FAST!) They are to die for! Also, don't neglect trying out some of their home made vinaigrettes. HIGHLY recommend the raspberry in this, as well! They also have beautiful grounds you can walk around, and animals to see (be sure to stop by and see the goats--they are very friendly!). They even have a peacock!"
"I have often passed this farm market when it was located on Rt 910 but today decided to drive over for a visit. You get a cart from the outside and go inside a beautiful decked out store with some of the freshest foods and dairy found. There's even a section for fudge if you are so inclined with a host of different flavors.Today they were having a special on corn on the cob so I picked up a few ears to make at home. In addition I got a perfect head of cauliflower and a squash. I glanced at the cheese counter. Looked tempting but I still have a lot of cheese to devour from another venue. The meat looked very good. The popcorn they sold was to die for! They have an array of jams, spreads, cookies, candy, and baked breads. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. You can get most anything here a lot of which is made right on the farm. They are open year round. They carry your popular seasonal items during their peak season. In the fall they offer hayrides for kids, and they sell Christmas trees, wreaths and fruit baskets in Nov. Makes a nice side trip when passing through the Wexford area."
"4.5 stars overall. Harvest Valley Farms is a fourth-generation family-owned farm. It uses sustainable practices such as organic pesticides, manure fertilizer, and crop rotation to grow over 160 different varieties of fruits and vegetables.Depending on the season of year, the farm's CSA and store could sell produce such as apples, asparagus, beets, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, corn, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers, pumpkins, potatoes, radishes, raspberries, spinach, tomatoes, squash, strawberries, zucchini, etcetera.I visited the farm's store on a weekend afternoon. I saw some in-season produce. I also saw many other foods such as salsas, dressings, sauces, honeys, cheeses, milks, eggs, meats, noodles, soup mixes, jams and jellies, and baked goods (e.g., breads, cookies, and pies). Many of these foods came from dozens of other local and non-local businesses. Prices were moderate.I selected several foods to buy. Two employees promptly rang up my purchase, made courteous small-talk, and wished me a good day. I ate the foods at home. I rate the peanut-butter chocolates as 5 stars, the apple pie as 4 stars, the rhubarb-strawberry jam as 4.5 stars, the potato soup as 4.5 stars, the potato-sauerkraut pierogies as 5 stars, the butter-chicken kit as 3 stars, the parsnips as 4.5 stars, and the banana-bread mix as 5 stars."
"I recently heard about Brown's Orchard and decided to go see it for myself. Brown's orchard specializes in all different types of apples and autumn is their peak business season. It is primarily a store in which you can select apples and apple products for sale. On two chalkboards you can see the different types of apples that they carry and whether they are in season or out of season. You can get 3 different sizes-5 lb,10lb or half bushel. Pricing is based on the type of apple you wish to purchase. Whether you are purchasing for baking, or simply eating Brown's orchard has a great variety of apples to try. Want something different than what you'd find in the grocery store? Try a Nittany which is State College's unique apple that is a cross between golden delicious and york imperial.Course the big seller is the honeycrisp which they store in the back. I arrived when almost no one was there and within minutes this place was packed. There is no numbering system as to when your turn is but people were pleasant enough to wait accordingly. When it was my turn the man helped find a good selection of 3-4 different apples to purchase for snacking. He will bag the quantity your desire of each particular apple.I saw that they had a sign indicating you can request a sample. That sample happens to be a whole apple of your choice. I chose a Jonagold and it was so good!! These apples are a good size and not the puny ones you'd see in the grocery stores. In addition to apples, the sell 3 different types of applesauce, apple cider vinegar, apple butter, and even apple pie. Don't forget to take home a half gallon of their cider as well. I already had a cup and must admit it was one of the best ciders I had in a while. They also sell honey here. The store is built inside a large garage-apple buckets are everywhere and you can see what is selling fast.Cash and cards are accepted here. Primarily open during the fall they have weekend winter hours. Free parking is available on the property. Located about 10 miles west of I 79 heading past Cecil, it is a pleasant drive."

If you're a local shopper, you need to add Simmons Market to your list of grocery options. This little market sells produce from locally run Simmons Farm itself. Stop on in to the family's market location and you can browse through a greenhouse, pick up some wine, indulge in incredible desserts, and leave with an array of fresh local produce. Honestly, just walking through here makes me want to eat healthier. Walk in and you can browse through aisle upon aisle of fruit, vegetables...and all of it is some of the best that the area has to offer. Although I admit, the enormous desserts that are the pies and tasty cookies being sold alongside the produce kind of ruin my chances at a 100% healthy shopping streak during my visits here.As an added bonus, you can pick up a few seasonal things that'll brighten up the decor in your place throughout the year. Last time I was here, the greenhouse was full of pumpkins; and I left with a hand-decorated pumpkin that was perfect for Halloween. Soon the place will be filling up with Christmas trees - if only I had the room for one! And as if being a delicious shopping option wasn't enough, the website for this business says that the market can also host birthday parties, summer camps, field trips, hayrides, a petting zoo...lots of fun little seasonal things for a family to enjoy. While I'm not the target audience for the parties and camps and whatnot, I'm definitely going to try to take the time to stop here before hitting up the Giant Eagle or Target in the future. I love this little market, and I can't wait to stop in again the next time my fridge needs to be stocked up with tasty, healthy treats!

Huge farm! I was concerned by how expensive it was but once I saw how much there was to do I was hooked. My niece loved the mazes, the slides, all of it! They had a decent selection of pumpkins, great food vendors, and still had some flowers left for flower picking. We spent 4 hours there and didn't do everything. We look forward to going back for their fall festival again next year!

I finally went to Trax Farms for the first time with my fiancé this year and we had a blast! So much fun, so much to see and do. We especially loved all the food truck options, the Roaming Bean coffee truck for a great fall iced coffee, and the shops. I ended up getting my mom a birthday present from the Trax store (they had SOO much stuff) and I got a set of Johnson Brothers vintage dishes! We also picked up lots of treats like apple cider donuts and apple dumplings. Definitely recommend as a wholesome date spot or family activity

Nice farmers market- I loved going here with my friends while attending IUP. Really great fresh and reasonably priced produce- and it all looks beautiful- healthy and ripe produce. We came here a lot in the fall for the Best Buddies Organization with our peer buddies- and everyone at the farm was very patient, kind, understanding, and accepting. We never had any issues with anyone in our group. We did hay rides, picked our own pumpkins, and other fall activities- so fun and great memories here!

This place is amazing! If you're going to go make sure you save some time to roam around. There is a market with pantry goods, candy, cookies, fresh pies, berries and more! There is also two small stands you can order food and dessert to eat there. There are also tables with umbrellas and even live music at times. The pasta salad is the best I've ever had and I love that it's made with mini shell pasta! So far I've had their turkey sandwich with pasta salad, French fries, the berries and cream, and their pie with ice cream. Everything I've had had been great so far! The chocolate raspberry pie pairs great with any berry pie. There's also a vineyard and winery there also. They will allow you to sample several wines and you can get a glass or a bottle. Pricing is modest and so far everyone has been friendly!

Cute little family run farm. It's not like the other massive farms around the area, but honestly that's not a bad thing. If you want to avoid the chaos and want something simpler with all the typical farm attributes, this is your place. They have their own little fall activities with hay ride, pick your own pumpkins and ample seasonal items in the market. They have fresh produce and also make their own fudge! I'm not a huge fudge fan, but there's so many varieties, you don't have to get the riches chocolate out there. There's tons of different flavors to choose from. They also have a cheese and deli counter, fresh meats and a variety of local goods like honey, coffee (from Curly Tail Coffee!) and much more. Basically, it's small but all the great farm essentials are there!

"If you're looking for some of the best milk you can possibly get, along with some other farm fresh goodies, Harmony Acres is the go-to place!First and foremost, Harmony Acres sells their farm fresh Creamline Milk out of their awesome "Jug Hut". They normally have their white and chocolate variety, but also have seasonal flavors as well that are a must try! So far, they've created an unbelievable Strawberry and an Orange Creamsicle flavored milk that were to die for! I will attest that their milk is hands-down the best I have ever had. They also sell a lot of local goodies like farm fresh eggs, honey, bread items, bakery items (like apple dumplings and pies), corn, and other locally grown vegetables and fruits. They have also added a fresh ground meat selection consisting of beef, regular and maple sausage links or patties, and Italian or hot sausage. For fall, there is a nice selection of flowers and gourds. They have also periodically had BBQ and Shaved Ice events. It really is a great place! It is a family-run place, on a family-run farm-- and they treat you like family! If you're looking for any of the items they provide, this is the place to go to!"
"Monday is the grand opening of a brand new location. The Farmers Grill sells burgers, dogs, kielbasa, grilled polenta, bread, salads and slaws all locally raised on the Alleghany County farm or baked locally and cooked to order. The kraut, cheese and mustard as is the fresh eggs and bacon added on are all farm to hand at the grill. Buy fresh and buy local. This grill is also a CSA pick up location for blackberry Meadows and the farmers sell fresh produce and canned goods as well as frozen meats and chickens and eggs to go. I think this is the best burger in town. I tried to add it to the best burger list and could not. Help please. This East Liberty Market is open Mondays through fall but if missed today, or if Monday is not a good day- you can find the farmers grill in Mt Lebanon on Sat am , In Squirrel Hill Sunday am and on the North Side Friday pm. Support local farms and get fresh local cooked to order foods."
"Beautiful produce! I bought a humongous cabbage there yesterday- 8 lbs 5.5 oz. Over 9 inches wide!!! I highly recommend!!"
"Beccari's Farm Market has been around the area for a very long time. Farmer Pete, and his wife Jan, are the current caretakers of the land that has been in Pete's family for a generation. The farm is up the road from the retail market, and everything is delivered fresh from the farm. The farm market also has other products for sale in addition to produce, such as local honey, local milk, fresh baked pies, etc. If you are a "Locavore," meaning that you support LOCAL . . . this is a great place to do it. I have been shopping at this market for many years, and I highly recommend it.Cheers!!!!!"
"Word on the street is, this place is a bananas in the afternoon festival hours. Our morning visit was smooth and lovely. I know we were missing out on a lot of offerings but there was still plenty to see and do - farm animal petting area, playscape for kids, Apple Store and bakery, pumpkins galore, etc. My three year old's review: "What were your favorite parts?" Answer: "the playground with the excavators, the train playhouse, and the pirate ship."The bakery was filled with whoopie pies, apple dumplings, cookies and pies. In the end, we left with pumpkins, cider, apples and a variety of cookies."
"Each fortnight, Milady Kay brings home a crate of fresh produce from Kohser Farms that is delivered to her place of employment. For as little as $14.50 a week, one can have a wooden box of vegetables fruits, meat, and eggs dropped off for you at a pick-up point. The contents will vary each time depending on what is in season. Just 5 subscriptions are needed for a stop to be established, so get your co-workers, friends, relatives, and neighbors in on this! So far, we've only been getting the vegetables, and over the past few months that we've been using KF, we have yet to be disappointed by a single shipment. Kohser Farms comes highly recommended as utmost freshness is their raison d'être. More information on KF can be found at this link...http://www.localharvest.org/kohser-farms-M42508Hop aboard, locavores!"
"I enjoyed my time here at Norman's Orchard. It's not as big or commercialized as some of the other farms, which I definitely appreciated. Loved the U-pick experience. The owner and those who work on the orchard are down to earth, nice, helpful, and just want to make sure you have a great experience. Gorgeous place as well!"
"Charming market! Plenty of parking. It was fun to browse the flowers outside.. anxious to start planning. I picked up some apples and bread. Nice size zucchini for zoodles!! We cant wait to return. Nice selection of fruit."
"Visited EYV for restaurant week and was blown away by the great service and even better food! EYV (Eat Your Vegetables) is such a fun concept for both vegetarians and non-veggie folk alike, and the menu is so fun and creative and unlike any other restaurant in Pittsburgh. The staff are so kind and friendly, and the space itself is elegant without being stuffy or overdone. The 3 course meal was perfectly portioned, and beautifully presented, not to mention absolutely delicious. I tried the Yukon gold pierogi, the cabbage pastrami, and the cheese and apple dessert. All were PACKED with flavor and interesting textures and preparation styles, and the plating was all lovely and showed an attention to detail. I wholeheartedly recommend for a date night or a dinner with a few friends!"
"What a great multi-purpose building/shed in Carrick. We saw a great blues band called Jimmy Adler. They ask a $3 cover but it's open air so if you can't afford it, you can still walk by & listen. Beers were $2 and there were plenty of benches to sit on. Had a great time..."
"This family owned business is awesome. Very friendly and is well stocked with great fruit, veggies, a full deli, and tons of other stuff. They make use of every inch of the property. They have these amazing hoagies made on a full loaf of Cellone's bread. Italian with plenty of fresh meat and cheese - and all the fixin's - lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and banana peppers. It's the best!!! They had these awesome little pepperoni rolls at the register yesterday for like $2.50 each - sooo good. Two hoagies and three rolls for $27!!! It's a really good deal. They also have wonderful prosciutto that paired with their fresh mozzarella balls is delish."
"Love this place but they loose a star because they no longer sell their amazing antipasta salad in the deli. Otherwise, the produce is good, we love their pizzas, milk is the best price around and it is just a great small business place to shop."
"Nice quality produce in store. Some of the bulk packaged goods and spices are decently priced with a good selection. Very helpful service - if you don't see it, ask."
"Composite review.I used to shop this store a lot last year, twice a week. Usually the veggies are fresh but more than a few times, they have been end of run/pick, and spoiled very quickly. That said, by and large, this is a nice place to visit. I believe they are associated with a similar group north on rt 51 near the park. Cheeses are nice and in variable sizes. Service has been fine each time I visited. f8 and be there."
"Nice new place that is a deli, charcuterie. The owners also have the Fudge Farm just down the road. Stopped in for lunch and to check out the menu. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Will need to bring along a companion to try the Charcuterie Boards. I had the grilled chicken salad came with blackberries, cashews and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Very good salad and loved the raspberry vinaigrette. Will definitely have to plan a time to stop in and try a Charcuterie Board."
