The views across the valley can be lovely - you may get more sniffs of nature than you desire on certain holes, but that factors into the ambiance. Clubhouse:Bad. The clubhouse is extremely dated and not very well maintained. I doubt any upgrades have been made since it was built. Pro for me though - clubouse dogs! Some very old very sweet labs are there (as of 2022)"

Showed us to our comfy quiet room, we turned on the fireplace and I soaked in the Jacuzzi tub just what we needed from our travels. Breakfast the next morning was amazing and she kept the food coming. We will definitely be staying again!!!"

This area is quite remote that even a Starbucks doesn't exist, which is good! When searching this cafe didn't even have a yelp review yet, and I had to write one. Staff was so nice, my request to put some honey in my latte was kindly accepted without any charge, and I appreciated their wifi where my phone doesn't even get 5G signal. While doing some work, they had many many customers swing by. I believe this is their local gem. Come visit this place and support small local businesses! (Bonus: The outdoor patio has a river view.)"

Matthew U. "Our Coal Miners Cafe is kind of a local legend. The local commercials that painted this place as the in place to go for a home cooked meal. But also for the challenge meal they have going called Miners Meal Deal. If you can down a two pound burger, a basket of curly fries, a side of slaw, and a gob cake sundae, you get it for free.My parents informed me that this used to be an inn or motel, and it may still have rooms upstairs, but not sure if they are in use. They have a large porch area that appears to be a little under used at the moment. They do have some outdoor seating here, but I feel like they could have more, especially if they were to clear out the side portion of the porch. There is a swing out front that you can sit on, but only if you are short in stature. Parking is a bit tight. There is a small lot out front and one out back. But if they are busy you may end up parking on the grass.Once you are inside you can tell that this used to a place of lodging. You notice what looks like a bar area as soon as you walk in, this is used as the host stand where you wait to be seated. Looking around this lobby type of area you notice all the Pennsylvania memorabilia. Lots of Pittsburgh sports, local sports, and with Jennerstown having a race track, loads of racing stuff. The two things that caught eye while in this area was the very small phone booth with a telephone still in it (not working) and the display case of baseball helmets with the logos from the 80s. The theme kind of moves throughout this place. It feels more like a dining room in a house. The room we were sitting in had tables that you would find in dining rooms from homes. In the corner was a old school radio that my dad recognized right away.Service was a bit spotty while we were here, but we came to find out that there was a large party which took up parking and kitchen time. When we did get service it was by far the best we had. After placing the drink order we basically got our own menus since the hostess forgot to bring them. Once the drinks shown up we were set to order. I already knew what I wanted to order before showing up so mine went a little quicker.I am glad that I ordered an appetizer as the service was really slowed down due to that large party. The kitchen was backed up a bit. I went with the Sampler Basket. If you remember one thing from this review, remember this, order this sampler basket. For the price it is way better than ordering any given item on the appetizer menu alone. When you order the Sampler Basket you get your choice of four of the items on the appetizer menu. See, you get more and you get to try out many things at once. With that I got fried pickles, onion rings, cheese sticks, and mac n cheese bites. Now, if I would have known this beforehand, I would have just went with this for my meal. If you pair it right, you definitely do have meal. This thing was huge, I ended up sharing it with my family. My niece and nephew were definitely on the verge of hangry, so this cam out at just the right time. There was so much on this plate that my whole family as well as me were noshing on it until or entrees showed up. Every single appetizer in that sampler was kind of run of the mill, but satisfying. The cheese sticks were a little odd, not stringy like some, but kind of satisfying. Onion rings were coated perfectly. Fried pickles had the right amount of kick to it and the mac n cheese bites the kids devoured. As for my entrée I went with old reliable, meatloaf. This comes with two sides and a dinner roll. I went with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Gravy over the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. When the food did start trickling out, not everything popped out at once. My plate with the meatloaf and mashed potatoes came out first. My broccoli did not show up until I was about halfway done with my plate. The meatloaf was a huge slice. I swear this was as big as a loaf of bread and thick as two slices of conventional bread. I am not sure what they used as a binder in this meatloaf, but it held together quite nicely. Seasoned enough to not be overpowering. No peppers in it that made me happy, I didn't want to be burping up peppers for the rest of the day. The mashed were mashed, thought maybe they could have been instant. Now, let me speak on the broccoli. When it finally did make it out to me, it was partially burnt. How? How does one do that? I mean it was odd. Like it was left on an open flame. Some pieces were so charred that I could not eat them.As for dessert, of course I got the gob cake. That was breakfast the next day. I could not fit anymore inside me after that massive meal. When I did dive into that gob cake, oh my god, delicious. The icing with the chocolate cake is always a win in my book.To note about this place, it is a bit deeply into religion. There was a Bible verse on the chalk board, and an open Bible in the corner of the lobby area."

"the hotel is interestingly appointed. big lobby lots of places to hang out. spacious as heck. friendly staff. we had a couple of good hours at the bar last night.the elevators are weird. very quiet. one of two always not working. the lobby is not on street level (L) but on floor 5. the hotel is o two levels only. take the stars to floor 6 in the middle of the lobbythe rooms are spacious and have work out equipment. very handy. beds comfy. housekeeping forgot to fill the soaps which was very very inconvenient while in the shower!liberal outlets was excellent.and, of course the location in pittsburgh is brilliant. right smack near market square and a short 10 min walk to the cultural district - probably 20 min to PNC Park. all flat or nearly so.parking is $29 if u pay at the hotel; $28 if you pay at the garage across the street. weird. the hotel should charge $15!!!! other parking would be on street.all things considered we'd come back.the rating is a 4 because of the elevator slowness and outage; and housekeeping not paying attention. the problem with a small thing like no soap is ... it reflects on wider aspects of the whole room! you wonder 'what else might be unclean or broken but look okay?'"

Adele's is a family owned business and Dan and Christine are the most thoughtful and welcoming hosts. The home has been in Christine's family for generations and she also happens to be the Mayor of Smithton. They showed us so much hospitality in this little town and their food is amazing! The place itself is full of family memorabilia and used to be a bar and dancehall and the dining room is full of old world bar features. Her garden and the local pollinator garden are truly wonderful and the best place to relax after a long bike ride. Christine is a wealth of knowledge about the town and her family's history and hilarious to boot. If you're ever biking the great Allegheny passage, you simply must stop here because they are the most gracious and hospitable people you'll ever meet."

Lauren K. "The Inn on Negley is absolutely amazing. Our stay was so magical, we already made plans to come back at a later time for no reason. We initially found ourselves staying here the weekend of the Taylor Swift concert. We were excited about being in Shadyside away from most of the TS traffic, and our choice turned out to be excellent. The Inn also has a small parking lot with enough dedicated spots for its guests, so you never have to worry about parking. The rooms here are absolutely stunning. They are decorated with class and care and every room has its own personality. The accessible room on the first floor, the Braeburn Suite, is spacious and stunning with its old world touches but homey modern feel. The moment we checked in, we were blown away! It was romantic and lovely. The bed was truly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in while traveling and had the most beautiful four-post frame. You truly can't go wrong with any of the rooms here. We peeked in a few others and each has its own character and panache. We didn't make it to high tea because we were tight on our schedule, but we did deeply enjoy the chef's breakfast daily for the weekend. The food was made with love, presented thoughtfully and made us giddily excited for breakfast daily. We chose to eat on the patio daily and felt like we were transported to some quiet, green oasis that surely could not have been Pittsburgh.Top to bottom, staying at the Inn on Negley is an experience worth having. It's also walking distance to several Shadyside attractions. We could not have asked for a more comfortable, inviting, and beautiful stay here. The innkeeper and all the staff members were engaging, kind, and helped with anything we needed. Our new favorite place!"

Rebecca M. "COVID-19 Review.Booking was very simple. We stayed one night for my birthday, and the hotel itself is beautiful! The rooms have fireplaces, high ceilings, and ours even had a clawfoot bathtub. Like any hotel, we were able to hear guests above us, but other than that it was built very well, so we were unable to hear any road traffic (we stayed in the smaller, red mansion). During COVID, there wasn't anything exciting happening in the bar, or lobby. I would love to come back when the hotel has events for guests again. We were able to walk to dinner, this hotel is very close to the heart of Shadyside which is bumping with shops and restaurants. The worst part about our stay, there was no breakfast provided so we had to order grub hub delivery (not really room service, lol) also, we were woken up to the smell of cigarette smoke from the room above us. When I mentioned this to the front desk, they sort of just brushed it off by saying "I thought I smelled smoke this morning." Sort of disappointing, but out of the hotel's control. If you are someone looking for an historic place to stay, within walking distance to some really great restaurants, I would highly recommend Mansions on Fifth. In addition, they also host weddings and parties here. The mansions themselves are not huge, so you could ideally host your whole wedding here, and fill up all of the guest rooms exclusively with your guests."

Carol was the only one that got back to us right away and with rooms available.Having to arrive pretty late after a 5-6 hour drive from Manhattan, she gave us specific instructions on how enter the house after everyone's gone to bed. Since it was only an overnight stay (meaning sleep for about 6 hours and a shower in the morning), we went for the bridal suite anyway for a price difference of less than $20 for one of the other rooms. The only thing that separates this room from others was the sunk in tub; it was amazing! The bathroom itself was the size of the bedroom, maybe even bigger! Breakfast was so good (especially her mixed fruit muffins) and we had a kitty to entertain us. Betty, the innkeeper was friendly, super kind and thoughtful (for example flipping the a/c on for us when we were away so the cabin would be cool), and the breakfast was bountiful and delicious. It was a wonderful getaway out of the city and lowered our blood pressure. : ) Highly recommend and would stay again. The only minor thing to be aware of is that the restaurants within a 5 mile radius were mostly family-oriented casual eateries (sandwiches, french fries), so if you are planning a romantic getaway or something special, I would recommend planning extra time to drive a little further out of the way for better food options."

It's utterly breathtaking. (I highly recommend staying in the upstairs bedroom! Keith C. "So I always heard good things about Sunnyledge but never stopped in until I went there my junior year at CMU. Biggest mistake of my first 2 years. And yes, I had a fake ID so I could get into most places. Well, Sunnyledge is kind of a bed and breakfast type lodging but on Fridays from 6-8, they have their happy hour. 1/2 price Martinis. These martinis are unbelievable. They are pretty strong and taste delicious. They have so many different martini's on their menu so just choosing one/two/three/four will take a bit of time to decide each time you re-order.So the martini comes in a regular martini glass. Well, you also get the leftover martini mix poured into a small glass container. They put dry ice in your glass before they pour your drink so the drink actually starts to bubble and puff up whisps of smoke which is so cool. There is also a larger piece of dry ice in your glass container which keeps your extra martini cool until you're ready to drink it. Once your finished the first glass, you pour what's in the container into your martini glass and voila, it comes out to a second martini. Granted that these martini's are kind of expensive, on half price happy hour, you are pretty much getting 2 martini's for the price of one. They also have a free tiny buffet appetizer where they have different things each time. I've had cheese and crackers, bruschetta, cole cuts crackers and cheese, etc..The menu isn't too bad either. I had their duck wrap and sliders one time. The fries were different. Not bad. but not exceptional. The only issue I have with the food is that the servings are really small and aren't worth the money you spend on it but if you go there on an empty stomach and end up ordering 4 martini's (8 total drinks) then you will need to get something to eat."

Each room has its' own "theme", I stayed in Chenille with a huge tub and an antique sink, the shower was alright - very low water pressure and took forever to warm up.Ed runs Parador along with two friendly dogs (that don't go past the kitchen, so no biggie if you're allergic). He's very hospitable and told me a few bits about the city and it's history in the morning. Breakfast was good - coffee, oj, banana bread and yogurt parfait, and a whole-wheat veggie egg wrap served with bacon, sour cream and bean/salsa thing. I'd highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting."

This will change soon.Century Inn at Scenery Hill offers a vast array of indoor and outdoor dining rooms as well as a tavern. In each room you can smell the wood burning fireplaces and gives it a homey feel.I had made a lunch reservation and was warmly greeted by the staff. I sat down in a dining room facing the rear windows. I felt like I had walked into Colonial times. The menu is just how I remembered it. A must is their renown peanut soup which comes in two sizes. I choose the small and it came in a miniature soup tureen bowl. It was so good! Instead of choosing an entree since the soup was filling I opted for their spinach, pistachio, and quail egg salad. I ordered chicken as a topping. Believe me this salad did not disappoint. They use the finest ingredients and even the bone of the chicken was attached. My waitress told me they use premium farm raised chicken. It was moist and oh so tender!I really wasn't going to spring for dessert but changed my mind when I saw that chocolate pudding with a chocolate covered strawberry. The dessert wasn't too big but it was so rich!!! It made up for everything else. After I had finished my meal I was told I was welcome to "tour" the facility and ask any questions. I got to see all of the upstairs bedrooms which are named for famous historical people who once stayed there.I was amazed when I saw the old fashioned stove in one of the rooms and loved the adorable rocking crib and quilted pattern in another. Each room is unique in its own way. They can be used for overnight stays. Contact the Inn for more details regarding pricing. Lunch entrees normally come with potatoes and fresh fruit which today happened to be strawberries. WiFi is available. Please ask for pass code. There are several rooms to rent. Besides the separate bedrooms, there's a communal dinning room, a comfy seating area and a great outside covered patio, which we made good use of considering the weather was absolutely beautiful. Lucy is a wonderful, hospitable host. She was home to greet us when we first arrived. Gladly gave us all the needed info so we could feel comfortable and relax. She's been running her b&b for 9 years. I was so glad to see she already has a page on Yelp, and great reviews to accompany. Our room, The Italian, had two (what seemed) queen size beds, even though the airB&B description says "two twin beds". Nice bathroom, stocked with soap and shampoo, so need to bring your own. FYI, in our room, the shower curtain did not come to the floor; and, since their is no "lip" the water leaked out to the floor. I had to put down two extra towels to curb the puddling water. A heads-up, to just be aware. The big window in our room was also nice!Breakfast is (of course) part of the packaged deal. And, happy to say Lucy provided a lovely, very filling, spread. When we checked in, she did ask if we had any food restrictions, likes, and dislikes. Nope. Breakfast was her own rendition on Eggs Benedict. Hot and tasty. Oatmeal, fresh fruit, cereal, milk, fresh squeezed orange juice. It completely filled us up, and was the perfect start to the day!Yes, if you are traveling in the area, I highly recommend this be your place of rest!"
