Beautiful theatre just a little tight on seating and getting in and out of there kind of a crazy cattle chute. The drink/snack setup is hectic at best and unclear as to where lines should start and where to go based on what you want. Not everyone wants alcohol. It is a beautiful venue and holds all the old world charm! Bonus here the garage across the street is $15 meanwhile the Theatre Square garage they have raised to $30 which is ridiculous. Come and check it out. Just know if you prefer space you need end seats and seats in the wings.

I love this theatre so much. It's so intimate and the acoustics are wonderful.I don't think I've ever had a bad time attending a performance.Staff are efficient with security, seating, etc.

Beautifully restored theater which seats 1,300. The views are all excellent except for the extreme right and left orchestra seats. I've seen almost every kind of genre here, plays, opera, concerts and more. The sound from the balcony is excellent.I've performed here once, so I can say that the dressing rooms are small. But the whole staff here, from lighting, to sound, to even the ushers, are extremely professional.I'm usually able to find on street parking, but there's a garage across the street that is reasonable.

Lovely venue. We had not been here in several years - I think the last show we attended at the Byham was Gilberto Gil!We attended "A Musical Christmas Carol" here last night, and it was fantastic! The theater itself is smaller than the Benedum, and ideal for such a show, and delivered a very enjoyable experience - there are no "bad seats" in the house, and the acoustics are great. It was fun to see the cast members entering from the wings and walking up to the stage in the aisles, and overall, the evening was really great. Production was FANTASTIC - lights, music, sets, etc. were all totally on point!Hopefully, as more people are vaccinated and accustomed to the COVID safety measures, we can all get back to doing the things we love - like seeing concerts and shows at venues like the Byham. They did a great job with the 30th anniversary display in the lobby - with a Christmas tree for each yearly production along the entrance way. The lobby is grand, and they have a bar for patrons. Bathrooms are downstairs, but ample and practical. My only constructive comment is that the seating in this theater is a bit small / uncomfortable for many adults, and that a renovation of the seats would be great. Honestly, I would be happy to pay a little more for a show, and be more comfortable and less crowded. Not enough to take a star off this review, though!

Nice stage! Seen my friend performed Christmas Carol. The audio was perfect. The cast executed their lives well. The room was packed. I would recommend parking in Smith Field Garage for low cost and short distance walk.

I recently visited this theater after not having been there in 20 years. Although my seat was about as far left as it gets my view was only minimally obstructed by the speakers. Had they moved them a bit farther to the left there wouldn't be a bad seat in the house. The actual seats in this theatre are fairly small. I consider myself an average sized person. I had zero elbow room. If you are a larger person you can expect to be pretty uncomfortable. There was nowhere to put my coat and I did not see a coat check. I had to hold it on my lap the entire show.

I saw Cruel Intentions here last night and it was not only the best musical I've ever seen, but the audience and the environment of the Byham was amazing. No matter what seat in the house you sit it, you get the best view. The music and lighting and production is incredible and it carries throughout the whole theater.Everyone working at the event were extremely helpful and kind. When you first walk in, there are a couple booths with brochures about the theater and some selling candy and snacks to eat during the production. As you keep walking back, there is also a bar to order drinks from. They give you the option of being able to take your drink inside the theater or not. If you wish to do so, you must purchase a special cup that allows you drink it in the production area. Coat check and bathrooms are downstairs. There is one sign pointing to them but besides that, they are a bit tricky to find. Luckily the staff was so helpful in showing us the way! I have been to most of the theaters in Pittsburgh and I have to say I think this one is in my top three. I cannot wait to return for another great show!

The venue is pretty good and I'd see another concert there, but I was very disappointed with the sound and the fact that they sold popcorn (more of a sporting event/circus/movie kind of thing than for the theatre) there when I saw a musical there. I won't go back for anything done by the same group, since they said that's how it always was (with the bad sound issues and the popcorn), but the Alan Cumming concert had great sound and no popcorn. :-)

Had such a horrible experience with a lady I talked to from them the other day & it left me with a sour taste in my mouth. Tonight's show absolutely made up for it. Every single person we encountered who worked there went above & beyond. They were all so insanely friendly & accommodating. We even asked one lady where we could get water & she got it & brought it to us! 1000% would come back here.

Enjoyed seeing "Young Frankenstein" at this theater. We were able to get Groupon tickets so the price was very good. The theater is smaller than the Benedum which also means that sitting upstairs in the mezzanine gets you closer to the stage. We sat 3 rows back to the left of the stage and could see perfectly fine. I especially liked that we could see the orchestra pit as there was a live orchestra accompanying the play. Yes, the seats are a bit tight; there's not much room between your knees and the seat in front of you and the seats aren't terribly comfortable for a 2-hour stint. I do think I had more knee room than the upstairs seats at the Benedum but not by much. The restrooms were in the basement level but there were plenty and very clean. There's a bar for refreshments and they were selling candy and t-shirts in the lobby, as well. You are allowed to take bottled water that you purchase at the bar into the theater.Garage parking is nearby and we paid 7.00 upfront for event parking. Then it was just a walk across the street to the theater. Afterwards, we headed to a local bar for drinks and appetizers. There are several choices for dining close by.This is a beautiful old venue and the size is great for more intimate performances. What is worthy to complain about is the sound system, at least for the "Young Frankenstein" performance. I could hear the orchestra just fine and fine they sounded, too. However, the actors' sound system made them sound as if they were talking through tin cans. I had to strain to always make out what they were saying. I'm going to assume and hope this was performance-related and not theater-related.
