Oakland has it's perks -- the book stores, the museums, the green space -- but having places to buy affordable groceries is not one of them. Bombay Food Market solves that problem. Whether you're looking for Indian cuisine and ingredients or just some fresh produce without making the trek all the way to Market District or having them delivered, Bombay Food Market is a fresh and affordable option. Honestly, it's a godsend. I wish I'd known about it years ago.

Ah man I love it here because the prices are so good and they have all of the things I like but can't find at the big box supermarket. The only problem is that they have so much good stuff that I shop like I've never eaten before and spend way more money than anticipated. Hey it's not their fault they carry amazing products. You should see me trying to walk home when I've bought too much. Trying to carry it is a sight. They've got a great selection of fresh foods as well as convenience foods. Indian, Asian, etc.

I regularly shop from here. Although the store is somewhat small, you can practically find everything. I especially fell in love with joy mango lassi. It has the right amount of sweet and tart and the perfect consistency. The prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly. They bring out fresh veggies if you make a request. My one stop shop for Indian groceries.

Awesome Indian market with pretty good selection and extremely helpful workers. I got spices here for half of what I would pay at other local grocery stores. If you can't find something you're looking for just ask and they'll be happy to help. Only downside is that getting close parking can be difficult, but a little walk never hurt anyone.

Honestly, was a little sketched out by the outside appearance of the store. But you can't judge a book by its cover.. usually you check Yelp before going, but I did the opposite this time. If you're on the lookout for Indian grocery, this is a great CHEAP store! I come here to buy my produce sometimes. (baby carrots, onions, cilantro etc)Oh and you can't leave without buying their $1 veggie samosas. 3/16 review: I came in today to pick up 2 of my favorite veggie samosas. Beware.. they are a hot commodity and were sold out today so I bought a mango today instead ($1.49 ea)

Last night, I had a random craving for some gulab jamun. I first stopped by Kohli's, but their version would have involved some preparation, so I decided to stop by Bombay Mart. When I walked in, I told the guy working at the counter what I was looking for in order to save myself the hassle of searching for it, since I'd never been there before. He led me around and showed me three different versions--one in a can, another frozen, and a third fresh/refrigerated. He told me the fresh version was ready to eat, so I decided to get it. Sure enough, it looked like the gulab jamun that I've seen in Indian restaurants and at street vendors in Singapore. After dinner, I heated a few in the microwave and they tasted as gooey and sweet as I remembered.Between the guy who showed me the gulab jamun and the guy who put his call on hold to ring me up (Him: "Just a minute..." Me: "Okay..." Him: "No, not you!"), I was quite pleased with the customer service I received here. My one complaint is that the price ($4.99) seemed a bit on the steep side--though I admit that I don't exactly have a standard to judge by for this particular item. As others have mentioned, they have a larger selection of Indian goods here than at Kohli's. They also have a hot food bar ($5.99, I believe), which looked a bit dicey from afar--though I don't believe that they offer free meals anymore with a certain purchase amount (there was a sign saying "No free meals").I'll be back the next time I have a random craving for Indian sweets, as this place is located about a block from my apt.

I like this store since it is bigger than your usual Indian grocery store. Aisle are narrow like their peer but they have a much bigger selection of grocery and food items than the rest.Staff is friendly too.No Parking is a bit of a pain though.

This market carries every Indian cooking ingredient that I cooked fathom and more. The store does a good job of providing ingredients for customers or all different cooking levels; that is, Bombay sells products that let you cook from scratch, half-scratch, or just heat up. I also liked the Indian desserts for sale. They have the widest variety that I have found in Pittsburgh, but, without local competition, the dessert prices are a bit steep. The prices of everything else is pretty much on par with the average prices in Pittsburgh. You may actually find a bargain on some varieties of rice and spices.
