This Farmer's Market Grill is a true labor of love where customers can show their love of local USDA certified organic farm products and the farmers who grow it. All food is fresh made to order. We had two Egg in Rye Toast with a side of bacon A Notorious P.I.G. Farmers style with fresh kruat and Millers Mustard and Vegan Poletta with pure maple syrup. Full meal for four cost $20. It is to go only but just down Beacon Street is a huge city park where we had a picnic. Parking was one block away. Market was crowded but not a long wait for my food. The cutest thing was the hole in the rye toast (baked locally) was a cut out of a pig. The farmers at the grill are also the farmers in the field. They know their food and share their love of fresh local organic farming. The farm stand sells frozen pork products and in season produce. Customers can order farm food, produce and soap for pick-up the following week at the website blackberrymeadows.com. They also sell prepaid market cards that allow buyers to invest up front in farm credits at a discounted price. Local, affordable and sustainable this is the best take out idea I have seen to support local agriculture - open rain or shine they have a large tent .

The Farmer's Grill is a must try in Pittsburgh - you really can't get any more fresh, delicious, organic, or local than Blackberry Meadows! I highly recommend any of their "ham" burgers (made of 100% pastured pork from the farm) or their vegan polenta, sourced from Weatherbury Farm. The owners of Blackberry Meadows (Greg & Jen) are incredible people on a mission to bring more organic, local food to the Pittsburgh streets. You can't get more communal than having Greg cook farm-fresh food in front of you. You can catch them at the Squirrel Hill Farmers Market on Sundays from 9-1, the East Liberty Farmers Market from 3-7 on Mondays, or the Mount Lebanon Market from 9-12 on Saturdays. Better than fast food, and just as affordable.
