Following a writers' group meeting, three of us decided we wanted to get a late night bite to eat, somewhere in the Dormont area. For some strange reason, I was thinking, 'Oh, The Apple Inn.' It had been years since I was there and told my friends, "They have German food I think, and have this awesome pickle tray.""I can go for a pickle tray," my one friend replied.Apparently, it has been years since they had that pickle tray and I was way off base on the German food. However, our options were Eat and Park or Tom's diner and hearing that the Apple had awesome Appletini's we stayed.Rob, the owner was sympathetic to our hunger plight. He was pleasant, congenial, upbeat and smiled quite a bit. There was a female bartender who really worked that bar and, from what I had seen, kept the drinks flowing.Rob introduced us to the munchie menu. A selection of bar bites that are reasonably priced. We ordered a slew, along with some drinks. Everything is reasonably priced, and the bar munchies were wonderful. The friend Zucchini was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside, the dipping sauce was homemade tasting marinara. This really isn't a dining place, it's a social place. So let's make the review about that. What is social? It's the atmosphere and people.Karaoke was underway, a young DJ, named Drew was working. He recognized us as new and came over and introduced himself, welcoming us to The Apple. His mix of the singers was awesome, making the singers sound even more professional. They have some amazing vocalist that go there. The Voice is missing out! If you think karaoke is screaming, drunk bad singers, you need to go to The Apple to hear the good stuff. The bar is clean and the bathroom spotless. Although I hear they remolded recently. The drinks were just right, average price and they weren't skimpy on making them. You can tell the folks that go there are regulars and even as a newcomer, they treat you like you've been coming there for years. The Apple Inn is located in Dormont and there is street parking and a parking lot across the street.I was going to take off one star because some young man named Josh kept playing darts in front of the karaoke singers, but then why should The Apple suffer a star loss because of Josh and the singers didn't seem to mind.Note that this is a smoking establishment, but during the time we were there, it was barely noticeable where we sat. One of my friends is very sensitive to smoke and she wasn't bothered at all. We left at midnight. If you're looking for a fun time, good drinks and stellar karaoke, I recommend The Apple Inn. Now .. if they would just bring back that pickle tray ...

Love this place. I used to live within walking distance and that was a treat! Karaoke is a great time. The drinks are great and inexpensive and there are always great people to meet there.I miss the pickles. ;)

I enjoy the karaoke nights here. The drinks are like the stock market though. Sometimes the prices are fair, sometimes it's $5 for a Miller lite. I do not enjoy the stink from all the cheap cigarettes. The bathrooms could use some work, putting it lightly. I still enjoy this place better than any of the other bars in Dormont. If I go out, it's usually here.

It's a bar that you can smoke in... what more do you want? If you need to feel pretentious while you are out, you can go to Diesel which is a 3 star 'club'The apple has dart boards and will order your favorite beer for you if you ask them. A good crew works the bar, and my buddy lives right by there so I am there too much.Perhaps pricier than it should be, but again: It's a bar. If you are looking for the cheapest place to drink, stay home with your Keystone Ice... I like my Guinness Draught, thank you!

The owners have no human decency and do not care about the well being of their patrons. Last week I brought in a group of 15+ people to enjoy karaoke at the Apple Inn. I want to preface this by saying all of us were buying drinks, both alcoholic and pop. Throughout the night, several of us approached the bar and asked for glasses of water and were told we could pay for bottled water only. The younger bartender on duty was giving us glasses of tap water at the start of the night, before being scolded by the older bartender/owner. After that we were refused free tap water as an option. As per the liquor norms and standards act section 4.7 : "Free drinking water, which includes tap water, must be made easily available at all on-consumption liquor outlets to the patrons."I informed the owner of this. His response was to scoff in my face, put a bottle of water on the bar, and said "Two dollars." My friend eventually bought one bottle of water, having no other choice. Meanwhile my other friend went outside for air because he was getting sick. He wasn't getting the water needed to balance the liquor they were more than happy to serve him. The DJ approached me saying how much she loved our group and wanted us to come back to "bring the vibe" because we were so much fun. I informed her of how we were treated and how we were unlikely to return. She asked if it would be okay if the owners wife got in contact with me for a resolution. She claimed the owner was in a "bad mood."I closed out my tab ($20 for Sprites?) and on the receipt I wrote that refusing free water is illegal and I would be filing a complaint. Later, the owner approached me, angrily, and said "I never refused you water" and pointed out that all I had was Sprite, as if that was remotely related to the point. This was an outright lie as not only was I refused a glass of water at one point but also most of the 15+ people in my group were all refused free water and/or forced to purchase bottled water. As we were about to leave, the owner attempted to placate the situation by comping one of the purchased bottles of water for one of the members of my group, primarily because I happened to be standing with them at the time he announced his oh-so-gracious offer. I can't help but wonder how many others they have taken advantage of who don't have someone like me to stand up for them. The next day, I did receive a call from the owners wife who proceeded to give me a sob story of alleged groups of people who will sit in the bar and drink nothing but water for 5 hours and it how hard it makes the bar business. If a homeless person came in from the street, asking for water, a decent person would give it as it is a basic human right. Not to mention, the great sob story doesn't make what they were doing any less illegal. After speaking to the owners wife, I did some research and found this isn't even the first liquor code violation by this bar and owner. They obviously don't know how to run a business. There are plenty of successful bars that know serving water is not only right, but designated drivers are a part of bar culture and the happier customers are, the more likely they are to return and bring additional business. On the contrary, if customers are treated poorly, they will go elsewhere. I know myself and my consistent group of 15+ karaoke lovers will not be returning to the Apple Inn, we will happily take our money and our vibe to a better bar with owners who care. I strongly advise anyone reading to do the same.

nice pool table but the bartender is an asshole. 0/10 don't go to this bar unless you want to be charged 10% for a card purchase when the service is absolutely shit. bartender is more interested in watching the than serving you.

Everything about this place is at least subpar except for the owner. What a turd. Rude and bad at his job. He gave my friend grief because his CC didn't authorize for the asinine $25 hold and then handed him someone else's card. Who knows who's card actually didn't work. I then handed him my card and watched him throw it around after each swipe like a toddler. Only plus is you can smoke in there, so maybe he'll get lung cancer a little quicker.

If you love overpriced watered down booze, this would be your dream place. It's a joke of an establishment that's ran by the biggest joke of them all. He will take advantage of drunk customers and add drinks to their bill when they don't order them.
