American Diner

This place is well named. It is what comes to mind when you think of the classic American Diner. It is a haven for comfort food. From the simplicity of the edifice to the no-frills, hometown, 1960's appearance of the dining room, this place is a throwback...in a good way.We stopped here because it was on our route. It looked like a good, solid choice based on the description and the reviews. And it looked like a choice that was not too expensive. The location was truly what you could term "roadside" on US 322, because it was indeed right next to the road. The exterior appearance was certainly not elegant, but the building was in good shape. The interior was a bit cozy, and the layout was significantly wider than it was deep as you would expect with a small, hometown diner. The decor and furnishings were simple, though certainly adequate. We were seated right away. The service was very good as our server attended to us right away. She was very efficient and our food was delivered rather quickly after our order.The menu offered classic mid-Atlantic American comfort fare. Items such as burgers, a variety of sandwiches, pork chops, baked ham and liver and onions were featured. My wife opted for a simple BLT accompanied by chips, which was quite good. I chose the Baked Fish with mashed potatoes and a starter salad. We're both watching calories and these were great options for that.The value was excellent. The final bill with food, tax and tip (we had water to drink) was $13.00 per person. I would try this place again if circumstances allow.

Great food, great service, small but awesome place for breakfast and brunch. Perfect stop if you're traveling through, or a local.

We're just driving thru and saw this place - why not? Filled with chatting local folks but quite welcoming to out of towners. Had breakfast and the food was fine - simple and fresh. Such a nice waitress (short blonde hair and glasses) and amazingly cheap prices. If we ever drive thru Phillipsburg again - will stop by!

I was presently surprised at the menu. Definitely a "home town" feel, which I love. My sister and I stopped here while she was in from North Carolina and she enjoyed it as well.

Only here once but what I had was good. Small place and decent prices and rural setting

Traveling through and found you all on yelp. Not a large selection, but enough variety for everyone to pick something they liked. The fries were awesome. Home spun. The brown gravy a little salty. But overall a nice mom and pops to stop at. The staff were extremely friendly. Stop on by and give them some patronage

Bad experience on the road (( food was over salted, mash potato with margarine, omelette was good, but with this yak cheese...

Great food and friendly service. Perfect for a quick stop for quality food. Came for lunch and it wasn't too busy and it had a nice homey feel. Great experience all in all. :)

Great food. Large portions. We love the fish special on Fridays. We also enjoy eat the fresh breakfasts.
