Altoona Gourmet Buffet

This place is still amazing. Wanted to update with some photos. Tried this place a few years ago and I think it just keeps getting better.

Not a bad place for all you can eat chinese food has a quite of selection not your authentic chinese but have to cater to the area.

This place was just ok. Not great, but also not awful. I have had worse, but I like my home Chinese buffet much better. I am coming to the conclusion that it is all what flavors you get used to, and each buffet seasons differently. The sushi was not good at all. About on the level of grocery store sushi. The rest of the food was kinda spicy or overly sweet, just not seasoned how we like it. The sweet and sour chicken was good. And the fried shrimp were good. My husband liked the ribs and general tsao chicken. Overall I personally would not eat here again because I didn't enjoy the different seasonings and flavors, but I also recognize that others may love it.

Altoona Gourmet Buffet was a surprise. It's a large restaurant with a large selection. Entrees, sides, deserts. There is a lot. I've been there twice now and have tried most of the standards (sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, General Taos ) and all were good. You can't help but fond something there you will like. In addition there are at least three types of shrimp, n mushrooms, and a variety of appetizers. I'd say the only thing that I had any reservations about was the egg rolls. They were soft and mushy and somewhat dried out. Everything else I tried however was good and some were better than good. For an all you can eat buffet with so many choices you really can't go wrong.

They have new management and the service is horrible, there was a customer who wanted more napkins and the waiter pointed to where they were, how rude! It was wonderful with the previous management and they were very friendly- not now! I will not be returning to this Chinese restaurant.

Staff was rude and asked for a tip as soon as we got our change back. She stood and staired at us until we tipped. Hair was found in food. Drink orders were messed and food was overpriced for what it was. Never coming back

The waitress was horrible she expected a higher tip when she does nothing but sit around. It was dirty and she demanded a higher tip. Very unprofessional and place made me very sick

I was a little concerned about the quality and service here when I read the reviews. Seemed like most of the recent reviews were negative. Fortunately, they had a wide selection of food, it was fresh and the service was quick. There was a language barrier because the staff was Asian or Hispanic and most couldn't speak English but they quickly brought someone by that could. I would come here again. Buffet was 15.99 for adults. They had reduced prices for kids. I paid $7.50 for my 6 yo and 10.50 for the 9 yo. The restaurant was clean and well maintained. I left satisfied. Just one caveat, we did eat there on labor day and they were serving the dinner menu all day. I'd imagine a smaller variety during the lunch times.

Place is disgusting, found hair in my food and told three employees they still charged me for my lunch which after3 bites then finding hair I left my plate and had to hunt down waitress

I have been going to this place for about 17 years only occasionally whenever i have to be in Altoona pa area. the only two foods I have ever liked there are.spinach quiche or spinach au gratin.And stuffed baked mushroomsThis all I ever eat at this place.In the past they used to have baked pink salmon fish on the buffet, but it always looked unappealing to me because of whitish slimy Albumin liquid, It would be better to serve some other type of fish as well.They also used to have Roast beef on the buffet, But I have not seen that either during my last few visits to this place.they do have wide variety of other foods. that are not of my interest, I try to avoid all highly processed foods loaded with mystery ingredients Most of their foods are Fried type. and majority of Meat dishes are Chicken meat. and some pork meat. I try my best to refrain from eating any abominable foods as mentioned in the good book bible, so no pork, shell fish or sea food for me, I still pay the full price but only can eat a very little from this place, It would be much better if they had a carry out choice from buffet items by the weight.Now there are only two reasons why I have decided to write this review for this place.1. the only two foods that i can eat at this place were out and I had to wait for quite some time for them to restock on the buffet. First the spinach au gratin became available so i took some of it, and told the waitress about the stuffed mushrooms , I waited another fifteen minutes and still no stuffed mushrooms were available. then once again i had to ask the waitress about mushrooms at that point she told the manager and the manager was a nice Lady she came over to me and assured me that she will have some cooked, and then she left, surely enough after 5 minutes later the stuffed mushrooms were available but they were cooked in a much hurry on very high heat, that the out side was rather burned or blackened but the inside was just warm and raw, they were not properly cooked, i could not eat any of that, soon after this disappointment, we decided to leave, we paid the full price and a good tip for the waitress. 2. My companion had taken some pictures of the seats that were badly damaged with broken leather and the place had strong smell of water damage like mold or fungus smell in the dining sitting area. they should have their carpets professionally shampooed and cleaned , the seats should be restored for health reasons.
