A really lovely park with huge old oak trees, a small lake, and convenient park benches. There are historical sculptures, and a large fountain which they recently restored. This is a relaxing greenspace for taking a walk or having a conversation. The park has a surprising number of birds, and for example, this is one of the best places to find night hawks. The park hosts one of Pittsburgh's finest traditions, Gus and Ya Ya's Itallian Shaved Ice Stand.

Love this park right next to the Aviary. It contains Lake Elizabeth which is a photographer's dream. I love coming here to take photos of the lake, bridges, view of downtown in the background, cherry trees in bloom, and the train track. Easy parking on the street. I usually parallel park across the street from the Aviary. Depending on time of day there is a small fee. There are many benches to sit and take in the peacefulness and paved trail circling the lake. Many people walk their dogs here, as well.

Allegheny Commons Park is located in the North Side neighborhood. This park was founded in 1867 and is Pittsburgh's oldest park. The park contains a small lake, fountains, art, monuments, and memorials. Recreational facilities include playgrounds, fields and courts for sports, walking paths, and a dog park. In addition, businesses such as the National Aviary and Gus & Yiayia's operate in this park.I have walked through or driven past this park on literally hundreds of occasions. The park has lots of open spaces in which to relax and many tall, mature trees that provide shade on hot days. I think that the lake, bridge, and fountain look very pretty. I rate the National Aviary and Gus & Yiayia's as 5 stars each. I deducted one star from my review because this park is located in an area that has high crime. I am careful to not visit this park by myself or at night.

Off leash dog exercise area in Allegheny Commons Park is a small green space behind the aviary. Blink and you might miss it. There are signs but no fences identifying the area. My dog loved running around this beautiful old park without being attached to me... I was a little nervous not being attached to him... we stayed and played until he wanted to explore other areas of the park.

This place is very cool with the strangest dog park I've ever seen. Your dog has to be pretty good here or I wouldn't take it off leash because there's no fence leading out to the road. It's so pretty though.

This irregularly shaped urban green spaces houses some statues, a bird zoo, and elementary school, among other sights. It was not the most scenic place ever and didn't have a ton of facilities, but there were some interesting sights. Notably, there is free parking around the area, and walking through the park is not terribly far to some of the sporting venues and other attractions.

This is a great park on the North Side. There you'll find an off leash dog park (not fenced in), Lake Elizabeth, 2 playgrounds, the Aviary, tennis courts, pickleball courts, baseball field, basketball courts, Gus & Yiayia's (IYKYK) and more. This is also where the North Side Farmers Market takes place in the summer. It's close to Yinz Coffee (across the street) so you can get your morning coffee and take a stroll! The only thing I dislike is that the dog park is not fenced in, it's just a specific area where the dogs can be off leash. Trust me, I love dogs! But I'm not comfortable walking my dogs past that, just personal preference. Overall, a great little outdoor oasis on the North Side with lots to do!

An old park located on the North Side. It sits right across from the Mexican War Street area. The Aviary is also nearby. There is a large Civil War monument by the pond area. A nice place to walk during the day with plenty of large trees for shade.

During a four-day weekend stay in Pittsburgh, I walked through this park in the mornings during my stay at the Priory. It was in within walking distance of the hotel. There are lots of passive walking areas and a pond with water fowl. There's also an aviary in the middle of it, and there was one outdoor habitat that you can see passing by.

What a beautiful park! We were actually just passing through here to get to the aviary, but decided to stop and smell the roses after seeing everything this area had to offer. It's a pretty big space right by the Mexican War Street neighborhood, and has a pond, statue, and an open area for whatever activities you want to do out there. It seems very well kept and a popular spot for locals. Allegheny Commons definitely adds extra beauty to what already is lovely on the North side.
