You are hot and tired after cycling a 50-mile segment on the Great Allegheny Passage. From the GAP trail, you slog up a steep side road, cut over the bridge into town, and spot the welcoming porch awnings of Adele's B&B. A knock on the door is quickly answered with a hearty "welcome". Your BNB co-host Dan secures your bikes and helps usher you inside. Here you meet Christine, legacy Owner, Smithton's Mayor, and Family and Town historian. Cool water and fresh veggies from the garden greet your arrival in the 1st-floor bar/museum of Smithton and Christine's proud family heritage. The conversation weaves between checking in on your needs and particulars, and the long connection this place and family hold in hosting patrons and guests. Upstairs you will find a spacious apartment and rooms with accessibility to a huge porch overlooking the town (Christine recommended eating at Dale's Place and you spot it down the street. Believe the reviews: Fantastic food and drink). A/C and a super comfy bed provide a restorative recharge. Breakfast should not be skipped! Tomatoes from the garden, asparagus & feta omelet, locally sourced fruit (those peaches!), bread, and jams, stream from Dan's kitchen as Christine provides additional commentary on Smithton's past and present. Now fueled with food and memories, Dan brings your secured bike to the front door. A handshake to Dan, a new friend hug from Christine, and you are on your way. Absolutely memorable. A trip highlight. Great people make great places. Thank you Dan and Christine!

We visited Adele's this past summer on a bike trip through the GAP and it was the highlight of our trip. Adele's is a family owned business and Dan and Christine are the most thoughtful and welcoming hosts. The home has been in Christine's family for generations and she also happens to be the Mayor of Smithton. They showed us so much hospitality in this little town and their food is amazing! The place itself is full of family memorabilia and used to be a bar and dancehall and the dining room is full of old world bar features. Her garden and the local pollinator garden are truly wonderful and the best place to relax after a long bike ride. Christine is a wealth of knowledge about the town and her family's history and hilarious to boot. If you're ever biking the great Allegheny passage, you simply must stop here because they are the most gracious and hospitable people you'll ever meet.

This B&B feels more like you are visiting a friend's nicely renovated house, that once was an hotel, but also was a house...ia a great story, you need to meet Dan and Christine and get the whole story. We rolled in after a long day riding the GAP, and were welcome by Dan in the front steps who grab our bikes to be stored in their cellar and told us to go up to that Apt ( he has upgraded us). This place has so much character that it does not feels like a B&B, and honors their family and the town of Smithon. There is a front porch on the second floor that is great to relax after a meal. Breakfast is enjoyed at the "BAR", that Christine Grams tended until she was 75 , and it is now decorated with items capturing the town's and the owners family history...what a place. Nicely located just 40 miles east of Pittsburgh (GAP MM 108. ), about a third a mile of the trail, a much better alternative that the chain hotels off I-70. Getting to experience places like this and people like than and Christine is why we ride. This will be a must stop on all our future GAP rides.

Firstly, I have never taken the time to write a complimentary (or otherwise) letter to a business. Never. This experience at Adele's B & B needed to be documented so that others can share in the same positive experience. Myself and a group of 13 made the bike journey from DC to PGH on the C & O and GAP Trails. Adele's B & B, located .25 miles from the trailhead at Smithton, PA, was the best place to stay on the trail. Having a few other B & B's to compare it to, hands down, the place was the head and shoulders above anywhere else we stayed. The group had to split into two groups on this particular day, due to the lack of availability at another lodging option. Me and a buddy rode to Adeles B & B through torrential rains, and thunder and lightning that caught us during the last 7 miles of the days 77 mile journey. Upon our arrival, the owners Chirstine Adele and Dan seemed genuinely concerned that we were delayed on our arrival due to the inclement weather. As I was checking into the Adele's B & B, I was dripping on the floor from the deluge we just experienced. Christine Adele immediately grabbed some towels in an attempt to stop the dripping (haha). At the same time, her and her husband began to bring out cut vegetables, crackers, cheese, pretzels, dip et als. She also offered us a beer for our arduous journey. Our bikes were kept secured in the locked basement of the B & B. Because we were dripping wet, she offered to do our laundry while we were at dinner. Her recently refurbished rooms had new 'everything'. She upgraded us to the apartment suite b/c of our tough ride. The water in the new shower seemed to have an endless supply of hot water. Christine, also the Mayor of Smithton for the last 16 years, and is employed full time in another town, asked us what time we wanted breakfast (even tho it was her day off). The previous place the group stayed, offer breakfast at 8am and would not be flexible with the time, preventing us from an early start on the trail. The Check out procedure was quick after breakfast the day of our departure. Dan had our bikes on the sidewalk ready to go. Dan and Christine were so personable, that they gave us hugs as we mounted our bicycles. Their small town hospitality was so unique, I had to write this review inviting anyone in the area to share in this positive experience at Adeles B & B. Well worth designing your trip to stop and overnight at this B & B.
