If you had asked me to write a review of Pioneer Market when I first started dating my wife (a La Conner local), I would have given it 2 stars. The prices are higher than Fred Meyer or Safeway or Haggen's. I used to cringe if I had to run to Pioneer to buy a spice if she ran out of one. That was 7 years ago. Today, it's a 5 Star review!Let me address the prices: Look, it's La Conner. You're a good 12 miles (or 20 minutes) from any of those chain grocery stores in Anacortes or Mt Vernon. So, the 50 cents more it costs for something is understandable - it's a Mom & Pop store in a town of 1,000 people. And no, they don't have room to stock every brand of every item. If you can't live without your favorite, specific brand of frozen chicken tenders, then head on out to 'town'.But I love the feeling I get shopping at Pioneer. The people are friendly, and Barry will go out of his way to get something for you! We can consistently get Smart Balance Organic at Pioneer (thanks, Barry!), but you can't get it at Fred Meyer or Safeway. So, yeah, it's a little more expensive. But you just saved an hour NOT driving to Anacortes and back. The beer cave is fabulous in such a small town. I think they advertise more than 300 beers, and I think they might have that many. They also have stouts and porters from Founders and New Holland that are hard to track down elsewhere! The deli is good; lots of options. Yeah, the parking lot is a little small... because it's La Conner. But here's the hidden gem - and some of you have found it - the breakfast burritos! You had better get there before 8:15 AM if you want to choose between bacon or sausage.Having lived in Central CA, I crave a good breakfast burrito from time to time. And it was a long time before I found a good one in WA. And that was at Little Mountain Grocery in Mt Vernon. But I don't spend a lot of time near Little Mountain Grocery. And then one morning about six months ago I was in Pioneer Market, and I saw these little beauties at the deli counter wrapped in tin foil with stickers that read 'Sausage' and 'Bacon'. So I took the plunge. They are amazing! The perfect mix of potatoes, egg, cheese, onions, meat. I was so thrilled! I prefer the bacon breakfast burritos, but they seem to sell out of the bacon burritos first each morning.I was in Mt Vernon for an early appointment recently so I swung by Little Mountain Grocery to get one of their breakfast burritos. It pales in comparison to the ones they make at Pioneer! I am so thrilled to be supporting our local grocery store AND getting a superior breakfast burrito!Pioneer Market - your local source for groceries, craft beers, and breakfast burritos that rock!

This place offers most essential items that one could need. Located just on the outskirt of downtown La Conner, this simple supermarket offers produce, meat, dairy, and some hardware. When I went, the produce did not look too fresh, but were not rotting either. Being in a small town, the place does not see as much foot traffic, and that probably has a effect on the prices and freshness of their stock.

Vegan travelers looking for snacks for airbnb - Couldn't find tofu lol. Saw some frozen veggie patties, & they had daiya singles, some produce (tomato's, onions, potato's, Avos), Silk creamer, So delicious creamer, and "frans" sourdough English muffins -marked vegan. I was hoping for some toufutti creamcheese. And I think daiya salad dressing.

Given the size of the store, they more than make it work by including a large selection of a variety of products. From wine and chocolate to groceries, hot food, and even work safety clothing, Pioneer Market is setup to handle whatever you need. They close at 10 which seemed really great, especially in the off season.Their staff seemed really nice, helpful, and had great personalities.

This store is a small store in a small tourist town. They have a fairly good selection and if you want something particular in a decent quantity they will try to get it.Prices are not out of range when you figure a 30 minute drive to the next store. The management is fantastic at all levels. The employees are friendly, knowledgeable and quick to offer help.Make sure to grab a basket as 1 item turns into many quickly and there are no counters at checkout. An excellent deli with a lot of choices. If you know you are coming the day before they have Gluten Free Pizza and other items that can be ready for you.Parking is tight but turns over fairly quickly. No public restrooms but the town provides just a block away.If you drink they have a pretty good selection. Do not miss the fun bears by the coolers.Michael J Hennessey

Ok they have a salad bar now so no more limp leafed salads. They have homemade enchiladas in the deli case and they delicious... not too cheesy lots of meat and cilantro. And if you are in La Conner and in of a filling quick breakfast their breakfast burritos are amazing! Get there before 9 because the secrets out and they go fast! Our favorite cashier Mary is still there to give you a friendly hurumph as she rings you up... but she's usually not on the register these days. All the workers there may not give you the cheesiest happiest "have a super duper day!!!" but are genuinely nice and helpful.

This review & rating is more for an employee rather than the store.... a woman named Leeann that was there 4/9 early evening is an incredible person and caring store clerk. She deserves all the praise.Yesterday I took a drive to LaConner (I live about 45 minutes away) because I needed to clear my head not because of what's going on in the world but due to a situation with other tenants where I live. Of course with the COVID19 closures and stay home orders it's hard to take a drive, but I had a tension headache for days that was on the verge of skipping into a migraine (even while in La Conner I had to take some anti-nausea medicine), my stress was at its limit, and I needed to get out. I wasn't thinking clearly, I just DROVE! My drive took me to La Conner where at 40, I can say I had not been there since I was a kid. I enjoyed strolling around the ghost town and just being out of my duplex for a moment. The fresh air helped my stress, which helped my head. The peacefulness of the passage healed me in many ways. But then my bladder attacked me. The public bathrooms were closed, due to COVID everything was closed -- which I knew could happen -- all La Conner closed except this store. Upon walking in I inquired about a bathroom, and was told no, absolutely no bathrooms for the public. I told them my story, the headache, the weird people I share a duplex with, how far from home I was, and asked if they knew of any other store or even a gas station in the general area that had a one... eventually Leeann just let me use the bathroom. Except she got in trouble for it. She should not have, she was only doing the HUMAN THING... she was being a GOOD PERSON, a KIND & CARING, COMPASSIONATE PERSON. I don't know if they will read this, but with everything going on in the world I know everyone need to be more careful than ever, but we also need compassion and to help and care for one another. We need more Leeanns in this world.

It smells like the rodent section of the pet store heavily. I wouldn't trust any food that isn't tightly packaged. The prices are too high and the store isn't very clean, but they're the only store like it in town so they can just get away with it. Friendly workers though.

On a recent glamping trip to La Conner, I found myself out of a few necessities so I hoofed over to the Pioneer Market one morning and was pleasantly surprised. This place looks small on the outside, but it has almost anything you could need on the inside! I was mighty impressed with the variety of everything from meat and produce to chips and beer. They even have a hot and cold deli, as well as an in-store espresso stand. This is truly a one-stop shop!Yeah, the prices are a little bit "La Conner" - but hey, they're the only game in town and if you need it, they probably have it. The staff I encountered was super friendly, too!
