Denise M. "This downtown Tempe cafe is a great spot to grab a meal. It is located a bit out of sight, near the roundabout in 6th, just rest of Mill. Parking can be a bit of an issue, but there are garages nearby. We were lucky and found a meter spot on the street on 7th.The decor is light and bright, with lots Edison lights hanging from the ceiling. There is a white leather seating area, perfect for those coffee dates. There is greenery around the bar. I only saw two people working, but it was quiet and it was fine . Our server 2 friendly and helpful, and have some advice on the food We had the fried chicken sandwich, which came with house-made pickles and chipotle aioli. We also had the Mediterranean chicken sandwich with sun dried tomato aioli. Both were served with fantastic fries. We will definitely return to this cafe. It's a breath of fresh air!"

After being here for 5 mins - I realized how eerily familiar it all was. It was because it's the sibling restaurant to my other favorite spot, The Macintosh. Great old fashioned cocktails just like Macintosh. Great yummy southern inspired meals just like Macintosh as well. Highly recommend it!"

Darya S. "Environment: outstanding and pretty. You could dress up to sit on the outdoor patio or keep it casual, like a lot of hotel patrons did.Service: kind and professional.Food: elevated American food. I got the burger and my baby got the chicken fingers. The burger was a standard one that you get at a sports bar. Hit the spot, but I'm not sure it was worth the price. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, unless you're really set on checking out the view. I think this review would have been four stars had I not gotten dessert. I ordered the coffee gelato and it was so bad that I could not even finish it. It tasted like a vegan knockoff brand that you'd get at a gas station. I took a few bites and I just stopped. I'm surprised they are serving such poor quality dessert at such a nice place."

Marie B. "7 years since the last review. I did not ever live here yet!Hillside Spot has consistently been the best place to eat for us over the last 7 years! We have tried almost everything on the menu and have not found one thing wrong, or lacking in any way with any of the meals we were served. My favorite is the 50/50. I like to get a sandwich or salad with whatever soup they are serving that month. Again have always been impressed with whatever the soup is and adding a salad or sandwich to the makes it just the right amount of food. I am diabetic and my hubby is pre-diabetic, so the most wonderful thing for us is that we can order great-tasting food and not worry about our blood sugars getting out of control. Yes, we try to stay away from fries, chips, etc but Hillside offers fruit or salad as great alternative sides to choose from. Although their fries are delicious, we will share them once in a while. Choices! That is what we love most about Hillside Spot.Service is always good. I like that they hover on the periphery and are not interrupting with questions, but are there when needed. Finally the beer list. The beer selection is very good. Hubby likes to have one once in a while and the selection is great. Even have Wren House!"

Menu has lots of fairly priced snacks, sides, and meals as well as drinks and a variety of beers. I love the idea of $4 tasty mock-tails aimed for drivers. This is new to me and makes me happy! Janelle F. "Looking for something new to try with the family this weekend and we came across Bigs. We all love a little of everything and this place seemed to check it all off the list. We frequent this area and somehow missed this spot until our stop Saturday. The parking lot is fairly small, but we picked out and didn't have an issue. We were not only greeted right away we were also sat as well. We ordered some drinks while we looked over the menu to decided on what to get. The menu was great and with so many amazing sounding options it was quite hard to choose. Since there were four of us we decided to start with the Sampler Platter which came with jalepeno poppers, chicken tenders, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, Mac n cheese bites, fried zucchini and potato skins. It sounded like a lot for sure, but we figured it would be like any other restaurant and they'd skimp on portions. Boy were we WRONG. Our server came out a bit later with it and we all about died lol. It was the polar opposite of small and even with all of us trying we didn't make a dent. The table ordered half rack ribs, sausage pasta, wildcat burger and a cheeseburger with bacon. Everything came out looking amazing and again portions were huge. Marge seasoned fries they came with my burger could've fed us all. The fries were seasoned well and crispy. I loved them. The start for me was my burger the Wildcat. I love to try new things and it came with pepper jack cheese, green chili, grilled jalepeno and chipotle mayo. I know what you're thinking. It was not as spicy as it sounds, but did have a great kick to it. I was able to finish a good amount of it, but I took an entire to go container of fried home. Our server was wonderful and not only kind but efficient. We didn't have to ask for anything. All the employees we witnessed seemed to love their job which is awesome. No one was standing around and getting the job done. There is a full bar as well. There are tons of tvs for sports as well. We really loved it here, but if you're looking for small portions this is probably not your spot. If anything I'd order something to share if you're not a big eater. Great family night out. We definitely left full, happy and ready for a nap."

As soon as I entered, I was captivated by the clear wine cellar surrounding the bar - a unique and visually appealing touch. The happy hour menu offered a fantastic selection of bites, and the best part was that all drinks were priced at just $7 (with beer at $6). What a steal! The Meatballs with Focaccia and Brussels Sprouts stole the show for me; they were incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection. However, the Spicy Shrimp Cocktail didn't quite hit the mark for my taste buds. For dessert, I treated myself to their seasonal cheesecake, which was a delightful conclusion to my meal. Creamy and rich, it was the perfect sweet note to end the evening.Aside from the delectable food and drinks, the lively atmosphere during the weekday added to the overall experience. PV Pie & Wine is undeniably a great spot to unwind, enjoy delicious bites, and savor quality drinks without breaking the bank. This must be a frequent stop for people on their way to Gammage, because as soon as we entered and got seated, the server asked if we were headed to a show there. We said yes, and she promised to get us out in time. Caffe Boa has a great atmosphere with lots of dark wood and exposed brick. We sat in the little sunroom separated from the dining room with our doorways. It's brighter in there. There's a separate bar and a glassed off room for more private dining. One of the best things about this place is the great art posters, all having to do with wine. The food here is fantastic. Hubby had the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were delicious, although I admit I love all meatballs. I did like the red sauce, which I can be a little picky about, and would definitely order anything with the red sauce. I had the steak salad, which was very large. It was dressed greens with sliced steak on the side, and I could hardly finish it. This location was recommended to us, by a few folks that live in the area or visit frequently. I 100% know why.Staff greeted us as we walked in the door, with big smiles and a gentle hello. It was like visiting a friends house. They verified our reservation (which I highly recommend) and took us to our table. As we walked to the table the other staff members also greeted us with "Hellos" and smiles as we walked by. So incredibly friendly and welcoming. We were brought fresh glasses of water menus within seconds of sitting down and our drink orders were taken. While we waited for our drinks we were brought delicious bread. We enjoyed the bread while perusing the menu. The menu is not pages and pages, in fact it is well thought out and curated to over special meals that all read like a chef special. I can speak for our table that all were wowed by their meals.I ended up with the 4 day bolognese which was absolutely incredible. and I was "sold" on the add on of a 10oz meatball. It did not disappoint. the pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce was flavorful, not greasy, it was thick and stuck to the pasta. SOOOO GOOD!! The meatball was incredible. Tender flavorful and hearty. I couldn't finish my food, it was just so much, I wish I lived locally as I would have taken it home for next day leftovers. The service was so very attentive and offered suggestions for drink and food to my colleagues. Great recommendations that went over well and didn't seem forced. The chef came by to check on us. and The owner came by to check on us and chat for a bit. So this stuff not being deep fried intrigued me. There's some sort of voodoo hoodoo magic because this sandwich is texturally crunchy yet juicy at the same time. I had worries that it would taste like some shake and bake nonsense from a sad trip to the grocery store as a child but much to my pleasant surprise...it tastes delicious. Also...the sandwich is pretty large. So that's a plus. Seating is uncomfortable though. If you have even the slightest degree of claustrophobia, get yours for takeout. I've been several times since and I still really enjoy the atmosphere and friendly service... I'm not going to lie; it's not exactly like the good ol' days though! What's consistent is the people-watching, attentive service, live music on many nights, solid cocktails, beer and wine to choose from. There is also a certain je ne sais quoi about this place... it's definitely a gem!The food menu isn't as impressive as it used to be... I miss the lobster bisque and paella! I am pretty sure they still have the amazing bread with pesto, and you can't go wrong with that, but not a ton of other items appealed to me. I wouldn't say it's a must-try or that it was worth the over $300 bill for two compared to other $300ish restaurants we've been to (felt more like $200ish?), but it was nice to do. My husband and I did the "let the chef decide" option, so we each got five different courses. It was cool to share ten plates off the menu and get a breakdown of the ingredients from our waiter, Anthony! One negative was that they don't have high chairs or changing tables. I get it's not a kid-friendly place and the vibe is on the modern and trendier side, but ours behaved well enough and I wish they made parents feel a little welcome. The things we were served were crudo, steak tartare, squash tostada, curried carrots, tomato salad, burrata, chicken, branzino, cheesecake, and mousse. Everything was created and plated so carefully! My favorite was the chicken, and I think my husband's favorite was the tostada. Overall, the food was incredible. Be warned, they charge for bread and butter! It's worth it, though! The sauce was amazing. The salmon cut was about the size of my big toe. I wished it was bigger. Third Course: pork tenderloin. This was the most underwhelming dish out of the 6 I had had. My filet was on the fattier side. It was cooked perfectly though, and the sweet potato purée was novel and unique.
