"I stopped by here last week for dinner. We were staying at the great wolf lodge nearby and wanted a place to eat outside of the lodge. So I fired up Yelp and found The Great Greek Mediterranean grill which I thought everyone in our party of 9 could enjoy. This restaurant was located in a strip mall and was the type where you place your order at the counter and then it is brought out to you. With 2 toddlers and a preschooler as part of our group of 9, this was exactly what we were looking for. The inside of this restaurant was decent sized with seating for maybe 40 or so and it felt bright and clean. For dinner on this evening I ended up ordering a hummus to start off with and then the falafel pita for my entree. Meanwhile, my wife ordered the lamb souvlaki and we got the avgolemeno soup for my daughter and the chicken bites kids meal for my son. All of our food was brought to the table within a good amount of time, especially considering the large party. After it was all out, a friendly gentlemen who may or may not have been the owner asked how it was and talked to us for a few minutes. Since my hummus was an appetizer it came out first. There were two full pitas cut into fourths accompanying it with great grill marks on it. I thought that the hummus ending up tasting quite good and it was creamy and flavorful while the pita was a nice delivery vessel that retained its shape and bite. As for my falafel wrap, I thought that it tasted good as well. There were 4 falafels in the wrap and they had a nice spice blend. They didn't fit too well into the pita though and by the end I ate two of them inside of the pita and another two from the wrapper. Beyond the falafel it had red onions, lettuce and a good amount of tzatziki. Then my daughter loved the avgolemeno and I thought that my son's chicken was super good. It almost tasted like the souvlaki but deep fried in a nice and crispy batter. Then last but certainly not least my wife loved her lamb souvlaki and thought that it was spiced nicely. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. We all thought that our food was good and it was a nice family friendly place."
"Unassuming Mediterranean restaurant located in shopping center. Menu board above the register. That menus has more traditional items. Additional menu items are posted on the window next to the drink refrigerator. These are mostly sandwiches, burgers and sides. Specials may be seen from the front window as guests approach. Portions on the gyro plate are large. Flavorful rice was topped with gyro meat. Meat was not dried out. Another compartment had a small salad. Vegetables in the salad were fresh. Pita bread was lovely. Bread was pillow soft inside with a bit of a chew. Taziki had a slight tang to it. Hummus was the only part of the plate I did not particularly care for. It was more chunky than I prefer. My husband had the chicken shawarma pita. Chicken and vegetables were wrapped in a pita. Chicken was well seasoned and tender. Vegetables were fresh. Indoor and outdoor seating are available. Inside has a large TV. At the time of our visit, sports were on the TV. I like that the outdoor seating is along the side of the building. It feels less like being in a strip mall."

"Super Friendly! Excellent authentic baklava, I think it was $14/lb.Small Middle Eastern grocery market with fresh baked Iraqi flatbread. They also have produce, beverages, frozen Arabic bread (pita), spices, teas, snacks, and can/jar food items. I highly recommend!"
"If you want pizza, have WIC benefits to redeem, need a bong, jeans or even a single dinner knife this place has it all.I came here on a tip about good pizza. From the outside I was skeptical, and once I walked in that skepticism increased as I saw a conveyor style oven.At 4.99 the lunch special of a 10inch 1 topping pizza, soda, and a bread stick is great deal, so I had to try it. Surprisingly the pizza was pretty good especially for a $5 pizza, It is on par or above a papa john's type of pizza. The service was great too. They did not have their full menu's in yet just a big lunch and dinner specials menu. In addition to pizza they also have a friend ensemble of zucchini onion rings and more. There is a big screen TV with cable and dance music playing on the radio. The fountain drink selection is vast but lacks any diet options. If you are brave and want a solid value give this a try, if you are on a date and want a second one this may not be the best choice."
"I have passed this restaurant many times and finally visited recently. They were having a fundraiser for Palestine so of course I had to support. I placed an order online and set my pickup time for 45 minutes later. We wanted to try a variety of items since it was our first time trying this place. We got a lamb kabob entree, beef shawarma entree (entrees come with salad, hummus, rice and pita bread). We also got their falafel plate (6 pieces), chicken kabob wrap, cheese & zaatar flatbread, and a muhammara flatbread. I arrived and my order was in the process of being packed up.I'm glad I had a few minutes when I arrived because I was checking out their offers and the restaurant itself, which is nice with decent amount of seating. They have multiple tv screens that rotate through slides and one of them is a Ramadan special: free lentil soup and 3 piece sambusas with any entree order. I asked the friendly woman employee if I could get that added on to my order, and she was very gracious about it and asked one of the cooks to prepare the food in a timely manner, though I was fine waiting. We got the food home and had it for dinner. I enjoyed my chicken kabob wrap, lots of pickles which I love. The flatbreads were thin and I enjoyed eating them cold the next day. The hummus was delicious and the lamb kabob was good. The beef shawarma had a weird texture to it, not used to it so I'd probably pass on ordering it again. The falafel bites were tasty especially with the tahini sauce. And the sambusas were bite-size and filled with meat and veggie, good stuff. Lastly, I tried the lentil soup and it was nice, glad I got to taste it. Customer service was excellent here! Several people dining in, picking up orders, and the employee was handling it all like a champ. I recommend trying this restaurant and supporting a local business!"
"This place is located on Baseline on the NE corner near 27th Ave. I recently have gone to a few Middle Eastern/Greek places. This place is a little more expensive than Green corner in Chandler but I would say the taste on the Gyro (see photo). The hot sauce is pretty good. The tahini and pickles in the gyro add something more. If you are out in this out of the way location, it is worth it."
"First time in at Gyro 101 in Phoenix, they have another location in Scottsdale. The Phoenix location has been open for at least two weeks. When you walk in you order your food based upon the menu and pictures on the wall. Prices are clearly posted and very reasonable. There was an assortment of fresh Baklava at the register so we added that to the order. There were three in our group and we ordered a couple of gyro wraps with an order of chicken tenders. Side orders included a Falafel plate, onion rings, Greek fries and bottled sodas. The food was very tasty and fresh. Great service, clean and good value. Happy we have a Mediterranean food option in this neighborhood. Put this one on your list."
"Such a delicious eatery near the ASU campus! Prior to this, I hadn't had Mediterranean food in months because I had my fill in Greece a few months prior. This was an excellent meal to welcome Mediterranean food back into my cycle of cravings!I ordered the chicken kabob pita wrap, and the person I was with ordered the ghallaba. Both were SO flavorful! I loved the tasty garlic and tahini sauces that came with the chicken. The chicken was a little on the drier side, but the sauces made up for it. Everything was priced reasonably and portion sizes were just enough to be full for lunch. I'm already planning out the next time I come here!"
"Heard from a few people we know about this food truck and they had all good things to say so we decided to try it today. We got a gyros sandwich and shawarma wrap with fries. The meat was seasoned well and the fries were super crispy and had a nice seasoning! The owners are super nice and they have a little seating area under a tent right next to them. They're currently located on the am/pm gas station lot on 83rd and Thunderbird. Definitely would come again."
"Gyro32 is a nice little place(too small seating area though). I had the lentil soup which was tasty(small bowl though).Service is professional and prompt.I only had the lentil soup, so can't write about any other food items."
"I was craving a Gyro, and so glad I found this place.Super tasty and tender. Looks family owned and you can tell they take pride in what they do.Will definitely return to try some other items."
"We stopped in tonight to give Olives Mediterranean Grill a try.We noticed it when we stopped in at Habit Grill next door last week.We tried the Falafel Pita combo with fries & a drink. We also ordered the Falafel & Hummus Plate. Both were very good. They were freshly made, great taste and portion size right on point. It's moderately priced and great customer service.Fast and Friendly, super clean environment.Would recommend to anyone. Family owned, love supporting Mom & Pop places."

I am so glad this place opened! I feel like it was needed for the area ( I love Greek food!) We went about 20 min before they closed so it was pretty quiet inside. We ordered our food at the counter and opted for the gyro meat plate. I liked it! It was big enough for both my daughter and me to share. It also came out fairly quickly. We chose fries as one of our sides and they were piping hot. I like those type of battered fries! The plate also came with a side Greek salad. I will definitely go back. I know they haven't been open very long, and my first visit was pleasant. I noticed a few negative reviews, and I hope they were just working out the kinks.

Great place for a gyro. This was an impromptu stop and I am very happy I made the decision to stop by. The restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable, and the food is really good.On this visit I had the Gyro and fries and both were very good. The gyro was packed with meat, no skimping here and the fries are real potatoes, not frozen. That alone wins me over. Reasonable prices and good food, I'll be back

This is the type of place that when you drive by you would NEVER stop in, its a small small market that caters to WIC and food stamp people in the surrounding ghetto. I work down the street and one day when driving by i saw a sign pop up that said "Pizza & Wings" and since i LOVE pizza we took the chance with our life and stopped in. The guys who work there are awesome and friendly. The pizza is awesome, they make their own down and sauce, and all of the meats are BEEF based since they have a lot of Muslim customers. I've been back tons of times and they have catered a few work lunches for us too!

I love getting take out from this place!! Their falafel is very large, crispy, and seasoned perfectly. The falafel wrap is my favorite for this reason! My baby loves the baba ghanoush and falafel, too. The Greek fries are also a favorite in our house! I've never been inside (always delivery) so I can't speak to the service or ambiance.

So here it was on a Saturday afternoon on warm day in Phoenix. I was invited to revisit Gyro 101, a Mediterranean type of food restaurant. I believe this restaurant is bit over a month new at this location. As you walk into this place you right away know where the order counter is. To your right is the dine in area. Today I am ordering their regular gyro with a side order of onion rings, and dining in, and you pay before not after. You sit down at your table and wait for your food to be ready to served. My gyro came as did the onion rings. The gyro comes with tzatziki sauce and very tasty. I forgot to mention the drinks are either in a can or bottle in case you were wondering. Next time I will try other dishes on their menu but their gyro is a winner with me.When you dine in one of the gentlemen will check to make sure your food is good. We just give him the thumbs up to let him know know all is good.I realize that there are other Gyro 101 places on the east side of the Valley but it is refreshing to see it open here. Not a fancy place by all means but it is worth giving it a try. By the way their Baklava is really good and they have all different flavors for you to try and taste!

I came here to for lunch with a coworker. It was pretty busy so I was excited to finally try their food out. We both ordered the falafel pita sandwich. It was good but it was a little dry. I wish I would have gotten a side of tahini or tzatziki sauce and then it would have been perfect. The baklava was delicious! Definitely recommend. I like how they have a market on one side of the restaurant with lots of Mediterranean products.

"I can't believe it's taken me this long to try ZAZU. Was in the mood for falafel last night and this place is right near my go-to Walgreens so my husband went and picked it up! I ordered falafel, hummus, and extra pita, garlic sauce, and tzatziki. They also gave me tahini. Ordered my husband some fries since he isn't a fan of Mediterranean food. The food was ready really fast and tasted amazing! The falafels were huge I def could've gotten the 3 piece, I had leftovers! Very flavorful and perfectly crisp on the outside. The dips were amazing too. Hummus was creamy and fresh, the pita was nice and warm. So so delicious. I will definitely be coming back and I want to try a wrap next time! Definitely recommend."
"Who doesn't love a great story? The owner is an immigrant who moved to the US in 2015. He originally opened shop in a gas station before moving to a bigger space in 2021. I had heard of CDF before. It has been recognized as the #2 falafel nationwide and Yelps #5 restaurant in AZ. S/o yelp squad.I ordered the chicken Schwarber sandwich which was simply amazing. I added spice inside as well as garlic sauce. I dipped it in vegan tahini and had a small 4oz lentil soup as a part of a meal. I genuinely enjoyed everything about my experience. The two guys working behind the counter were super friendly as well. And Bonus: they have Barques red cream soda (see pic)."
"This restaurant serves delicious and very affordable Mediterranean Food. I ordered the Lamb Chops and Gyro Salad. Both meals had incredible flavor, and the portion sizes were enormous. The staff were very helpful and friendly, I highly recommend this restaurant."
"Heard from a few people we know about this food truck and they had all good things to say so we decided to try it today. We got a gyros sandwich and shawarma wrap with fries. "So me and my girls were driving from the airport and we were looking for anything that was open during curfew. The carne asada fries caught my friends attention so we pulled up. It was very hole in the wall vibes and we fucked with that so we went right in. The menu was easy to read, the staff was attentive and answered all our questions with what went inside the burrito, fries, and different salsas. They told us the fries is what would bring us back so we went ahead and ordered 2 carne asada fries, a mini carne asada quesadilla, plenty of tacos and a case of beer. While we waited we ended up grabbing extra snacks---they legit have the best selection of just about anything you'll need for the week/weekend.Sooo if you're around the area stop here, maybe you'll catch us there tomorrow! 10/10 recommend"
"Stopped in and grabbed the Gyro Platter to go. Split the side between the rice and a Greek salad. The salad was fresh and the Greek dressing excellent. The rice was tasty and the pita soft. The tzatziki sauce was very good too. There was quite a bit of lamb with the dish too."
"The last time I dined at this place was a whopping 15 years ago. Not much has changed, except for my reviews - they've evolved from simple one-liners to more extensive musings. LOL But let's talk about the prices! They're as budget-friendly as ever. I ordered a salad, hummus, and feta - all delightful - but the true star of the meal? The rose lemonade. So flavorful that you can practically taste the essence of the flower. The ambiance? Still, the same cozy hole in the wall that I remember. And the service? Still top-notch."
"I went because of a Groupon. I felt good vibes upon arrival. This place was not empty. Plenty of busy tables. Great hopes. The attendants were smiley and ready to help. Great location. Nice outside seating. My friend had het little dog and they accommodated right away. So that's why I hate to say.... I didn't enjoy the food. It wasn't the right flavors. I was really expecting more. But everything was tasteless or unnecessary. My dish had a gigantic jalapeno....not edible. It was just kinda grilled, but no seasoning, just hot and unedible. I ordered alsoma mint cocktail and it felt more like I paid for ice. And even though I had a grouthe bill was a fortune compared to what we ordered. We ended up paying after tip almost $80 plus tips....and we only ordered 2 plates...yikes!! We did order a cocktail a appetizer but still. I wouldn't be back. But it's all good."
"Dee-licious Jordanian food!I love that Scottsdale has so many choices of places to eat. De Babel would be one I would consider to be near the top of my list. It's moderately priced, outstanding food, and some beautiful food. You will walk away full, satisfied, and looking forward to more food to eat the next day. It's very family friendly, too.The pita pockets are obviously handmade, thicker than I am accustomed to, and filled with good stuff: your choice of meat, cucumber, tomato, pickle. Several members of our family went with gyros meat. I picked one filled with grilled halloumi. We were all very pleased. The fries are beyond heavenly. Not only are they their own fresh cut potatoes, they are seasoned beautifully. We got two side orders of fries and could not keep our jaws from dropping when they arrived. Super crispy. Huge. One of the orders was the amazing truffle cheese fries. These are beyond reproach. All in all, two orders were more than 6 of us could finish, even though we tried hard. But yes, get them anyway! And definitely bring them home for a second and even a third chance. We ordered a mixed sampler, the Mixed Mezza, a beautiful, generous platter, which came with hummus, baba ganoush, tabouli, falafel, stuffed grape leaves, and pickles. The baba ganoush was so smoky good, the stuffed grapeleaves were moist and flavorful. We added a side of okra that made me giddy. It is stewed with tomatoes, garlic, and cilantro until very tender. I need to remember to cook it that way at home now that I tasted it.The only thing that I regret was not getting to taste the fried cauliflower and their crispy za'atar pita chips. Well, I guess lamb and lentil soup might have to be in consideration, too. I guess that is for when we come back, which indeed we will!"
"Great place to have some delicious food, and then shop for some goodies to bring home. Had a mezze sampler, and beef shwarma. Mezze included generous portions of bannaganoush, hummus, dolmathes and the white sauce like tzatziki. Plenty of pita bread to scoop with.My schwarma was delicious, and ample. Had to share the mezze plate, can't eat that much anymore.Counter order, friendly guys, they bring to the table, in our case, quickly. The store is so stocked with everything one needs to cook middle eastern at home. Clean store. Will be returning."
"I wish I had taken a photo before I tore into this amazing meal. My husband and daughter got beef and chicken shawarma. They were both very delicious. I got the beef shawarma plate, which was a huge portion and very delicious. I prefer this place over any of the chain restaurants. The meat was seasoned to perfection, and the hummus changed me. I will never eat store bought again! We will certainly be back."
"We stopped in Pita Kitchen on July 4th after a day of shopping. Honestly we didn't have high expectations, we were hungry and it was close by. I was in the mood for something other than pizza and burgers. We underestimated this establishment!!! We walked in and it's a small dining room with tables and a few booths. The menu wasn't super huge but had some great options (my gf is vegetarian so I love that they had the veggie pita) the prices were right on point so we ordered. Man.... The food was SOOOOO good. The wait wasn't bad, and the food came out piping hot. You know it was freshly made. The French fries reminded me of high school, you know the good battered French fries?? The veggies in the pita were grilled but still crisp and delicious. The falafel was the best I ever had, moist inside with a crisp outside. Not dried out like most! And My rice bowl was huge for $14! And came with all the toppings. The garlic side sauce was delicious as well. I had to get extra before we left. We thoroughly enjoyed our food. I will 100%. Be back!"
"Ok so we came here for date night! This place seems newer and it was awesome! First I felt like the food portions were relatively large so I took half of my Chicken Cheesesteak home. Having said that, I've been to a bunch of the highest rated Philly sandwich places in town, none of them compared to my Chicken Cheesesteak, the sauce in it was amazing! Janna had the Grilled Chicken Wrap and she complimented the sauce in her wrap as well. I'm not sure if it was the same sauce but they're on to something.I came here for the wings and I saw someone's Philly sandwich being made and I switched gears, so glad I did! This place is next level, if you don't try it, you're missing out!"
"I knew Carouns was going to be a gem. It is sandwiched between and Indian and Mediterranean grocery stores. I ordered the chicken tikka plate which was absolutely delicious. 12 chunks of chicken over rice accompanied by hummus and garlic sauce? Don't mind if I do. Plenty of food, not enough sauce. Great flavour, great value, great vibes. I'd like to come bax"
"Craving a fresh, veggie friendly, and healthy-ish meal on our way to a picnic in the park, we stopped by Wessen for a takeout order. The shop is small and focuses mainly on takeout orders. If you do dine in currently there is only one table inside. The menu has a wide array of meaty and veggie forward dishes. I love trying a little of everything so I went with the vegetarian platter. It includes hummus, baba ganoush with kalamata olives, tabouli, falafel, dolmas and pita bread. Everything was securely packaged in Styrofoam and they included some to go utensils with napkins.I opened up my container and everything looked so pretty and appetizing. I dug into the falafel first. It had a very hard crunchy outer shell with well seasoned tender falafel/chickpea mixture inside. The dolmas were warm and tasted like they might have been left on the hot holding counter for a long time because they looked shriveled and tasted a bit dry on the outside but had very soft and almost mushy rice inside. The hummus was decent but the tabouli skewed too acidic for me. Out of the whole plate I enjoyed the baba ganoush the most since it had the perfect blend of seasoning and smokiness. The chopped Kalamata olives were a nice additional touch. The pita bread was served nice n warm in some foil. The total for the veggie plate was $12 which was a fair price for the amount of food I got. With a plethora of options for meals on their menu I know this is one place I'll have to try out again!Covid related info: - Staff do not wear masks- Very limited indoor seating"
"I ordered from Grubhub today because I was stuck in my house. I'm new to the area so I thought I would try this place because I was craving Middle Eastern food. Absolutely the best baba ghanouj I've ever had in my life. The stuffed grape leaves were delicious, the hummus, and the tabouli were all excellent. I will definitely order from here again."
"I love going here. The food is always delicious. If you never had sambosa this is the place to try it. I do my shopping here and I got this beautiful Henna done here. It is truly a one stop shop. The family is amazing and always nice. Mashallah they are truly a blessing."
"The owner is the best guy I've ever met. He definitely shows his love through his service and food. I will be a loyal customer of his for years to come."
"Another solid choice when it comes to middle eastern food. We wanted to get their desserts but got distracted by the food. The shish & lamb kabob was very delicious. Salad was very fresh; appreciated the dressing packed separately. We will return for the dessert next time. It looked delicious! Highly recommend!"
"this is one of those International spots that you're not sure what to expect. We almost went to a different restaurant because we could not find the location and it's located back in the corner by a Indian market as you walk in it is very unassuming and similar to eating in a foreign country. There is not much decor, and I woukd not classify the dining area as elegant. I was here with five others and I was a bit apprehensive. The prices are fair and the menu items had standard Mediterranean cuisine with a few varieties. We ordered at the counter and then sat down. And then I tried the food. If you ever remember the raging Cajun chef from Louisiana named Emeril Lagasse, BAM!!!!!!!! The flavors and cooking style was incredible. Even the simple french fries were crisp and flavorful. The green sauce was phenomenal, and the rice was fragrant and flavorful. This food is cooked with love. This is a Mother's cooking from Ethiopia/Somalia and you can taste the difference. Imagine going over to your friends house to enjoy a home cooked meal. That is the inexplainable way the food tastes. I apologize because usually I take lots of pictures of the food but when I went to try a french fry and the next thing I know they were all gone. My Shawarma sandwich had soft and tender chicken meat and was flavored well, and that also disappeared and was gone. The other dishes disappeared faster than a new iPhone 14 left on the street on ASU campus. I can gladly say I did not eat the soda pop can so I have a picture of it and if you've never tried it, it tastes similar to red cream soda.I will be back, I'll bring reinforcements, and I'll take more pictures!"
"I was complaining to hubby the other day that I was having trouble finding middle eastern pickles at the stores I usually get them so he did some research and suggested I make a trip to this market. While I was out running errands today I decided to stop by. I found the store pretty easily and walked in to find a well stocked market. As I wandered through the aisles, Nadia, the owner, kindly offered to help me find anything I needed. Not only did I find a great supply of the pickles I was looking for but, I also found several other things that I'd had on my list as well. I filled up my cart and headed to the counter. As I was checking out I asked Nadia if she happened to have any fresh halva. She told me she was expecting some to arrive next week but she showed me a packaged halva that she said tasted very fresh and she described it as a cotton candy halva. Well, that sold me! I purchased it right away. As she checked me out, Nadia chatted with me and made me feel so welcome. She is incredibly kind and personable! I love this wonderful market and Nadia's hospitality and will absolutely be back soon! I'm so glad to have found this hidden gem that is so close to home!ETA - Nadia did not oversell the halva she recommended, it is even better than I expected! Super light, fresh and delicious. Yum, the only problem now is not eating it all in one sitting!"
"I walked into Kitchen 18 and it was packed so I was lucky to get a table. The menu has a nice selection of American, Israeli, Kosher, Chinese favorites.I had the Moroccan lamb soup and blackened tuna with veges(grilled zucchini, rice, carrots)and a Corona beer to wash it down(K18 also has an excellent selection of Italian, Californian and Israeli fine wines). My tuna was delicious glazed with teriyaki sauce and a very large, filling portion. The Moroccan lamb soup was the best I ever had with chickpeas and amazingly tasty broth.Everything tasted great. The Owner personally attended to me and brought my dinner out fast even though they were closing soon; I had plenty of time to relax and eat. There were alot of Orthodox Jewish customers which is a good sign since they know their Kosher.I'm from the east coast and the owner told me he's from Chicago. K18 has that great neighborhood Chicago, NYC Jewish restaurant ambience.I rank it best Jewish Kosher restaurant in Arizona(and they have Kosher Chinese which is hard to find).Congratulations K18."
"Downtown Phoenix is not a monolith. It's not only Roosevelt Row, or the sports district, or the Capitol. There's a wide range of neighborhoods, each with their own distinct character. Today, looking for an early dinner spot, I came upon Baiz Market. A small Middle Eastern grocery store with a sit down restaurant inside called Al-Hana. There's actually three Baiz Markets here in town, but the original is tucked away just east of the Garfield neighborhood on the eastern fringe of Downtown. I've had some great Middle Eastern fare here in town from the likes of places such as Middle Eastern Bakery and Haji Baba. But Arizona Republic food columnist Dominic Armato has said Al-Hana is one of his top 100 go to spots in the valley. So on a Thursday afternoon, off I went. You'll find Al-Hana inside the original Baiz Market on the southeast corner of 20th Street and Fillmore. There are also Baiz Markets in west Phoenix and now in west Mesa, each with their own Al-Hana restaurants. But this one is the original. Adnan Baiz and his family run this local chain which is open to all, but catering particularly to the valley's growing Middle Eastern community. In the time I spent inside Baiz today, there was a kaleidoscope of customers coming in and out. From Downtown college kids, to Muslim families, to Latino workers stopping in for a meal, and even a few African American grandmothers just grabbing some grocery items. Clearly I'm not the only one in the area who knows about this place. But how good is the food at Al-Hana?Step up to the counter in back, gaze at the menu above (or at the display case below) and make your choices. I ordered an app and an entree for my first go around. First, a small cheese pie. A mix of feta and mozzarella cheeses on house made dough which is crimped to make sure none of that cheesy goodness escapes. Heated in the oven and served warm. For my entree, I went for a Chicken Shawarma entree. Basmati rice, veggies, pickles, garlic sauce, and a pair of large pita bread slices. Oh and of course the chicken, seasoned and sliced off the spinning grill right in front of you. Total cost for everything including tax? About $11.Food came out to me in a little less than 5 minutes. You can also get it to go if you want, but I dined in the small seating area next to the kitchen this go around. First, the cheese pie. And I now get why Yelpers and Armato hype this up. The dough is the best part. Crunchy on the outside, but soft, chewy, and hearty on the inside. And the cheese mix is perfect. And for just $1 its a perfect starter snack for pretty much any meal. How about the shawarma plate? The chicken was excellent. Seasoned perfectly with just a hint of char. The sides? Meh. The basmati rice was actually a big disappoint to be honest. Super dry and almost flavorless. The pita bread was fine, though I've had better on that front as well. All things considered though, a pretty decent meal (and portion) and a solid value for the price.Next time I'm here I'll probably opt for the kabobs, or perhaps grab a meat pie. Given the uniqueness of the groceries available here, the fully halal restaurant menu, and the mixed neighborhood it resides in, I can understand why Baiz endures in Downtown's ever changing landscape. We're much more spoiled for choice on Middle Eastern cuisine in the valley today than when Baiz originally opened in 2004. And there are many other Middle Eastern restaurants that can match or top Al-Hana's food at this point. But much the way Ranch Markets offer a unique way to shop for the valley's Latino communities, Baiz is giving the valley's Middle Eastern residents something with them in mind. If ever there was an establishment in the valley proving that Phoenix is becoming an international food destination, its Baiz."
