First time here with my girlfriend and her parents. I gotta give this place 5-stars. I am not Chinese so can't comment on whether this is authentic Cantonese dishes - but they're from HK so I'll take their word for it! The portions here are large - we ordered the pepper steak (very very... like very tender), tofu mushrooms with Chinese peapods (amazing and almost my favorite), salt and pepper fish (crispy fried and not fishy), and scallops with noodles (amazing and my favorite). It was way more than enough and we took the rest to go. The food comes out pretty fast and I like that there are plenty of accommodations for large groups and tables for two. Last piece of advice and perhaps most important - validate parking in the lot nearby off of Wentworth. Pretty much all the stores validate including Phoenix and it's just $2!

Use to be a regular at this restaurant whenever I visit Chicago but the quality has severely gone down and probably will not be coming back. Located on the second floor, the elevator was out of order already so it was quite inaccessible for elderly but it might be out of their hands. Upon entrance the manager/front greeter was exceptional and greeted us and brought us to a table but since that moment everything went downhill. The food was pretty average and the quality went down. The freshly made vegetables were cold, and the malaysian rolls were over cooked and mushy. The only thing that was good was the pan fried dumplings. What made me not want to come back was the service. Upon asking for a cup of water it took us four waiters and the manager to get us it with attitude as well. They put in our order twice and basically duplicated every order and when we said that it was a mistake we got a lot of attitude back and there was little to no service and even when there was there was a lot of attitude.

We came here for dim sum and it was a pretty solid experience overall, though not particularly exquisite. The atmosphere was typical of a dim sum place--lively and a bit chaotic, with a touch of disorganization. It can feel a little cramped when it's busy, but that's part of the charm in a way.The menu is extensive, offering a variety of dishes beyond just dim sum, which is a nice option if you're looking for something different. The food came out relatively quickly. I love the bbq pork here and the custard bun. The custard is runny unlike many other places. In summary, it's a solid spot for traditional dim sum with a wide-ranging menu and efficient service, perfect for a casual outing.

Stopped here for a work related event. Food was good. Restaurant wasn't the cleanest and tables were on top of one another. Parking is very difficult as it's a busy area Unimpressive

Below average dim sum for above average price. Price $32 | Rating 6/105 people at 11:30 with no wait. Seated in a spacious table and given the usual sauces, tea, and menu. Their selection was bigger than normal with things like duck dumplings and corn shrimp dumplings. The quality was disappointing. The har gow and crepes were over steamed and stuck together. The scallion pancake was more a bao and not crispy but the taste was still good. The veggies were fine and everything else was okay. Nothing special stood out. Paid in cash for discount and cost was 32 so for not being 100% full I was a bit let down.I would recommend other places but it wasn't terrible in case your friends insist.

Let me start with walking into this restaurant was just like going to a place in Zhuhai. It was amazing. Large tables for big groups to come together and share some wonderful Dim-Sum and 100% authentic Chinese food. Everything was just perfect and service was fast and friendly. It was the perfect stop during my visit to Chicago. I highly recommend if you looking for a place that has room for many people.

Good service for Saturday dim sum at 11am. Love that they came around with ribs for us to choose from. I enjoyed everything but nothing was a stand out to me. Very seafood forward as expected. Great view out of the window from our table.

I have been coming to phoenix for over 2 decades and through their different owners. This is still my go to spot in the city for dim sum despite a lot of competition. This has even been my go to spot on Christmas and Christmas Eve.Despite cooks and owners changing the quality has remained top notch! This is authentic food and incredible dim sum. They used to do the carts back in the day and no longer do it. While the menu has slimmed down over the years it makes sense only to offer the most popular items. As with all Chinatown restos, parking is a challenge so be prepared.Pricing has remained very reasonable over the years too.

I live overseas and each year for several decades come to Chicago for the summer months. One of favorite restaurants is the Phoenix in Chinatown. We have family visiting from overseas that arrived in Chicago yesterday and we decided to take them to this restaurant last night for dinner. I called in the late morning to make the reservation.Upon arriving at the restaurant, there was a sort of convention of Chinese people working in the medical domain. The presentations were very loud and we were placed behind a sort of cloth divider that did not muffle the sound of the proceedings a few meters away. We asked the head server to be moved and he said there was no other place to go, which visually did not seem to be the case, as at the far end of the restaurant several tables that could accommodate our group were available. Further, the serving staff was concentrating on the large group associated with the convention and we were clearly neglected with regards to our orders and several had to be repeated in order to get served. I asked the head server when things would end with regards to the presentations, and he said in about 10 minutes. About 40 minutes latter, things had not calmed down, one of our guests that was close to a speaker developed a headache, and we were unable to talk between us due to all of the noise. What a shame that the person taking my reservation did not warn us of what was going to unfold that evening. We really had an unenjoyable meal, the head waiter was not particularly respectful, and we will not return to this restaurant nor suggest it to friends and family members.
