Phoenicia derived from: The name Phoenicia comes from the Greek word phoinix, which may have referred to the color purple-red or to the Phoenicians' production of a highly valued purple dye.I walked in and was promptly greeted, to-go, go to the counter. If you're eating there, just pick up a table. Everyone was happy, excited, and most importantly, welcoming! Great start! When you walk in, it's a small spot, clean with about 15 tables.Sylvia and her husband run Phoenicia Cafe small little spot for 20 years! Did you know that? They are nailing the Mediterranean flavor profile! They just added a Pita machine to make them fresh! Using a Mediterranean spice, I believe it is called Za'arta (I could be worng) on one Pita sample, and the other one was Pita with cheesy deliciousness on top.I went with the beef shawarma and did not disappoint in any way, shape, or form! In-house made beef, marinated just right, house made hummus, house made Pita bread, lettuce, tomato's, onions, and tahini. Bite by bite, each one oozing a blend of flavors that will make your taste buds go bonkers! I wish I had ordered more Pita bread to pick up all the extra that busted out of the Pita! Check in on their Yelp page to see if they have a deal (may be expired, 50% off second item you buy) and if it is expired, who gives to 2 bleeps! They are well worth every dollar spent!!I unfortunately did not try the Baklava... next time! , Sas efcharistó (thank you in Greek)Paul

Gyro platter with rice and Greek salad is the way to go! My husband loves their Greek fries and chicken kebab. We have never eaten inside but have been greeted with a smile every time we have picked up our order.

We stopped in for lunch, it's our first visit & we will be back. Food was fresh and served hot. Service was excellent, cafe is local family owned, & clean!! Affordable menu offers a wide variety for all ages and types. It has a nice vegetarian menu too. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to eat healthier and better. A great way to try Mediterranean cuisine.

Hubs and I worked up an appetite after watching a movie nearby. We decided to check out Phoenicia Cafe. We were greeted and seated right away. The space itself is quite spacious and bright, with plenty of available seating. We ordered the following:Arabic coffee $4.99Shrimp ghallaba $18.99Gyros pita $10.99Baklava $2.99The coffee was fantastic. It was strong and unique. I really liked it. My entrée was the shrimp ghallaba which had shrimp, peppers, onions, tomatoes, carrots and rice and hummus. It was flavorful. The portion was quite generous, and I had to take some of it to-go. Hubs had the gyro and he said it was okay. Before leaving, I just had to try the baklava - we ordered it to-go and proceeded to eat it in the car on the way home. It was delicious! In fact, we wished we had ordered two!

Love it! Love it! Love it! From the minute we walked in. We were greeted by sweet lady and a young gentleman. (Later we found out they are the owners Sylvia and her son). The food was absolutely delicious! We tried chicken kabob, beef kabab, quzi and appetizer platter. The plates had competition which one was more tasty than another. But they all won!!!! The service was so attentive we couldn't believe it. Overall 10 out of 10!

Absolute gem of a restaurant! We went last night and was looked after by Ryan. He was cheerful, happy and very accommodating. We have no had service like this in a long long time. Stellar staff member!!! Food was delicious and plentiful. We ordered one gyro and one sharwama combo platter. Both my husband and I really enjoyed the garlic paste haha I haven't had such great garlic paste like that since living in the Middle East. The baklava was spot on! Not lacking in honey or nuts. My daughters also enjoyed their serving of ice cream. We can't wait to come back. Would highly recommend

We were Looking for new places to explore, and options to dine in. Wanted to try Mediterranean and came across this little café in Gilbert. It was a week day and was pretty packed. There was a lot of orders for GrubHub and other online deliveries. The customer service was excellent. We were welcomed greeted and explained about all the menu items. We went with Greek fries, chicken Shawarma, and Philly cheese Shawarma.Everything arrived fresh and looking absolutely fantastic . The Greek fries was pre-loaded with cheese and ranch. We thought it was all right. The Philly cheese Shawarma was the best of all, the sauce was excellent the chicken cooked to perfection, juicy and tasty. Overall, we had a good filling meal. Upon checking, realized that this business has been there for 19 years and they have another branch in Tempe. We ended our meal with homemade baklava. Everything tasted good. The pricing is not bad and with tons of food, they hit ball out the park.
