I have purchased Phlour's breads for many years at the Lincoln Park farmer's market, but this was the first time that I have ever been in their shop on Bryn Mawr. Wanting to have a decent baguette to go along with a pasta dinner brought lured me in. First of all, many reviewers mention poor service, but that was not my experience. We know that they run out of some of their bread, so we called ahead to make sure they still had baguettes, and to put two aside for when we arrived. The person on the phone could not have been more helpful or pleasant. When we arrived, she had our baguettes wrapped and ready to go. The bakery is bright and welcoming, and the area where they make their baked goods is open for viewing. It was moderately busy with several groups of customers having coffee and lunch. I LOVE old school bakeries with shelves and cases overflowing with fresh baked goodies. Phlour is not like that--they have more of a limited selection, but what I saw was tempting. In addition to the baguettes, I purchased a half loaf of sourdough bread (I've had it before), and two blueberry muffins. They also had cinnamon rolls, mini-quiches and a few other items for sale. Other than the baguettes and sourdough bread, there were no other bread choices. Phlour's sourdough bread has a nice tang--with way better flavor than an expensive, half pullman sourdough loaf that I recently purchased from Publican Quality Bread. That said, the Phlour sourdough loaf has huge holes. I expect holes in a good sourdough bread, but holes bigger than 1-inch seem to indicate something that needs to be controlled in the proofing process. But the flavor is there, and it toasts beautiful, so it's a minor complaint. The blueberry muffins were big and flavorful--we loved them. Next time I am there, I want to try a mini-quiche. Phlour is a wonderful bakery on Bryn Mawr, and well worth a visit if you're in the area.

This spot offers all the classics as far as baked goods go. Croissants, danishes, muffins, coffee, etc. They even sell these little quiches which are quite tasty, as well. I once came here after immediately dumping somebody and their quiche provided me with some much needed comfort, haha. But yeah, the quiches and danishes are solid. I should note that there is a strange vibe in the air. I can't quite put my finger on it. It feels...dead? I don't mean quiet, but rather lifeless. I don't know. It's odd. But overall, it's a solid little cafe and a decent place to enjoy a coffee and pastry.

Beautiful pastries, excellent croissants. We wanted a Kouign Aman, but they were sold out. Plenty of space to sit and enjoy pastry and coffee. On street parking.

I just moved into the neighborhood and have walked by this place several times. In decided to try it out. Well, I love it. Here are my pros amd cons:Pros- Its a local business- Quite- Great selection of pastries, sandwiches and bread (food was DELICIOUS)- They have wifi - Plenty of room to do my work when I want to get out of my house- Everything is made in houseCon- Customer service. I didn't go there to get red carpet service, however I did expect a simple hello. Unfortunately, I felt like I was bothering the girl behind the counter. I walked up, said hello, and all I got was a stare. I mentioned that I have never been there before, in the hopes that she would make a suggestion. Not a peep. I asked her about the blend of coffee of the day. She literally said...."Its the coffee of the day". - Long story short, she didn't want to be there, didn't care about customer flow. Almost everyone that came in had to wait for her to stop talking to the back of house bakers. Almost never smiled. Its to bad that she wasn't taking her job serious. That place if great and I recommend going there. My hope is that the owner reeducates the employee on how important it is to simply say "welcome" or "hello".Many small businesses are closing down in this neighborhood. Customer service one of the easiest ways to get people to come back.

Great local bakery on Bryn Mawr in the heart of Edgewater! The pastries are huge and there is so much to choose from. Really love the breakfast goodies, only issues is that once you order, it is always a bit of a wait until you get your food.Coffees and all are delicious, as well! Great atmosphere and love having this in a walkable distance!

It smelled amazing and we wanted To support a local bakery. So we walked in and there was silence. It was some people eating table and we were looking around. No one greeted us so we walked up to the front and started looking at the bread in the front. It looks and smells great. I just wish that the customer service and the prices were more friendly. Not for us, good luck.
