Perilla steakhouse is a beautiful addition to Chicago's amazing restaurant scene. Located in a beautiful first floor space right by the river in the loop, the restaurant has some big windows for people watching and is bright enough that you don't need a flashlight to read your own menu and music isn't too loud as well for us millennials! The service is absolutely 5 star. From the hostess stand to the servers and manager who came by, each staff has clearly been trained to make each person feel very special and well taken care of. I mean look, we had a guy in a beautiful suit cooking our meat! The food is also scrumptiously elevated Korean-fusion, and there's something for everyone on the menu. If you're less spicy you can find a caesar salad, steak frites, and if you're spicier you can find authentic Korean pancake and Kim chi literally made by the owner's mother. The carrot cake was out of this world and I'll be dreaming of it until I see it again.Must go, and must go back again.

The ambiance is chic, and I loved the interior design choices they made. It felt unique and was definitely inspired by Korean culture. But the food was underwhelming. As a Korean American who grew up with some of the best traditional & modern Korean food in the world, the flavors were not inspiring and the menu felt underdeveloped/ conflicted between traditional and modern dishes. The cacio e pepe tteokboki was great, but it wasn't unique. The mushrooms were my favorite dish but overly salty. The kimchi and tofu soup was my least favorite dinner dish due to mid flavor which is crazy for a Korean restaurant. The meat set was fine. It's rich and fatty and they are nice cuts but the portions are extremely small... typical of fine dining experience but conflicts with real Korean bbq culture. The mugwort ice cream... don't bother. It was like drinking slightly herbal milk and lacked the rich flavor profile that Korean mugwort items tend to have. I mentioned this to the server and he kinda brushed off the feedback. I hope to come back in a year, after they've had time to work out the kinks of opening a restaurant.

I went with my Korean family (who were skeptical especially about the fusion dishes) but everyone was SO pleasantly surprised! 100% approved by everyone with plans to return with other family members :) Service was so good - so nice that they grill the meat for you at your preferred temperature and our server Tae cooked every piece to perfection. My aunt asked for hers to be cooked slightly more well done and he was very accommodating.I loved the vibes - decor is very inspired by traditional Korean decor/architecture from the wooden panels to red and green walls. We also got 2 bottles of rice wine which were both very different and delicious - their selection is very extensive, I like the variety in flavors. can't wait to come back

I came here for both brunch and dinner and I will say dinner feels way more thought out, which I guess is to be expected. my favorite dinner dish was the Bolognese kalguksu, the texture of the noodles was so good! I also had a dessert cocktail, the yakgwa cream, and it was amazing I think it's my second favorite cocktail I've had this year behind oiji mi's truffle cocktail. the service at dinner was also impeccable, so attentive and also really funny and personable. of the desserts, I think they're all really good except the carrot cake-- that one is nothing special.

I really wanted to try the new Perilla steakhouse, since it is a great addition to the Loop area.I went for lunch and tried their lunch set. Initially I wanted the skirt steak, but it was not available. Bummer! The server recommended the grilled chicken and said it had a nice char to it. She was right. It was really good, but there were only 4-5 pieces. For the price, I was expecting about twice as much. I hope they increase the portion, because it will make me want to come back. The banchan (side dishes) were excellent and complemented the grilled chicken well. The seaweed soup was a great way to wash down all the other food. Everything went well together. I just wished for larger portions and refills on the banchan would be a great option. The decor is modern and professional, with some tables having their own grill. There aren't too many tables available, especially for one person or two people seating. So I was seated at a large table which could fit 4-5 people comfortably. The service was attentive and frequent. There were about four people involved, from the hostess who led me to the table, the attentive server, and the attendant who cleared the other plates and utensils since I was the only person dining.Overall, the meal was light, healthy and complementary. I would go back more often if the portion size was larger and if they offered free refills on the banchan.I hope I can try their dinner.

The food was super flavorful and delicious. I really loved the lemony flavor that the caesar salad had. It was big lettuce leafs so we had to cut the salad but honestly so yummy and it comes with parmesan crisp. The fries were a little too crispy for my liking but the steak was cooked perfectly. Our servers were very attentive to all our questions and had a very personable personality. Perilla itself had a more upscale feel to it. Def want to dress up a bit, as the dim lighting really sets the mood.

Perilla is a superb combination of great food/ingredients, an upscale yet inviting atmosphere, and friendly, attentive staff!I highly recommend the bone marrow (even the toast it came with was exceptional!) and the Wagyu Steakhouse Set! They cook the meat for you (LOVE that they use beef tallow) , so you can just sit back and sip your cocktail or snack on the banchan. The red kimchi was some of the best I've ever eaten! For dessert, I got the panna cotta, which was the perfect palate cleanser after the Wagyu meat. My server, Sara (hope I spelled her name correctly) was the best! She patiently explained the menu to me, since it was my first time there. And she was great to chat with while she grilled the meat. You get different cuts of meat with the set, and Sara made sure each one was cooked to perfection. Every bite was warm and tender, not greasy. I absolutely loved my first visit to Perilla, and I hope to return during my next work trip!

Ahh! This used to be Fisk & Co., remember that? This is part of Perilla Fare which is in West Town and I haven't been there. I had one of their cocktails. The staff and service is excellent.

Located along the riverwalk in downtown, Perilla Steak delivered in offering a unique steakhouse experience. You have the meats, cold seafood options, and the steakhouse staple trimmings but you also get the Korean staples such as rice cakes (with a twist), pajun with crab bits, and Korean stews. Perilla Steak shines brightest with its diverse and well thought out menu. The Steakhouse Sets are where you'll get the full experience. Tables are equipped with built-in grills where servers will cook the meats to perfection. However, if you're feeling hands-on you can take the reigns and create your own perfect bite. Despite the restaurant's name having 'Steak' in it, the gems are in the First Bites, Shareables, and Desserts. You'll know what I mean once you try them all. But if you have to limit yourself, try the Monkey Bread and each of the first bites. Don't skip on the desserts either, they are all good! Again, if you had to choose one, try their black sesame dessert.BTW, they offer breakfast and lunch! Their Korean Lunch Tray is an excellent value with sides accompanied with a main. If it's a bit early for that, try their breakfast sandwich. Last but not least, the staff at Perilla Steak are attentive and friendly. Don't be shy in asking for recommendations if you aren't sure what you should be ordering. They will portion perfectly for your party size.

For me, despite the raving reviews, I was disappointed by the cost of the dishes, extremely small portion sizes, and mid flavor of dishes. The only thing we ordered that was reasonably priced were the cocktails and the bone marrow. I don't quite get the hype and wouldn't consider coming back even though the ambiance was stellar and the service was cordial. I think the Korean-American aspect of the experience got lost in the pursuit of forced fanciness and doesn't make it worth diverging from the standard American steakhouse experience readily available in the same area.
