Wow, I am obsessed! This place blew away my expectations. Everything was fabulous! Cute spot, had a group of 7 and they had a big table for us! Service was good, drinks took awhile to come out, but other than that great!I had a glass of white wine to start which was the perfect starter. From the starters section we tried the a5 wage Cho bop, this was literally the most amazing bite, so much flavor cooked to perfection. The blistered shishito peppers were very good! The scallion pancake was okay, it was very crunchy. The chicken wings with yum yum were great! Full of flavor! From the for the table section we got the honey butter potatoes, these were insane. Sooo crispy and perfect. The rice cake royale was good, but I would recommend the prime beef fried rice over it! The beef was amazing and the rice had crispy pieces. This was one of my favorite dishes. On the grille we got scallops. This was the best scallop I have had. It melted in my mouth. The marinated short rib was amazing, soooo tender. I would pass on the pork belly next time, it was a bit too crispy for me and very small. I can't wait to come back here, this is one of my new favorites.

It was nice visiting Perilla once again. I have not been here since before Covid. Many changes have been made since then. It was a good restaurant then and it's a great restaurant now. I would say to consider coming here if you're celebrating something or if you're comfortable spending $$$ casually. The experience is worth it for sure. Once we were seated our waiter gave us the run down of how things worked and re-welcomed me since it's been a while since I've been back. My fiancé and I had a taste for some Korean wings so that is what we ordered to split in the yum yum and buffalo flavor. We also ordered the Prime Beef fried rice. For drinks my fiancé ordered the Jasmine Dragon while I ordered the Jeju Punch. The drinks seemed like cousins that shared a citrus flavor. We sipped those until our order came to our table. And once it came and we got a bite of our meals it felt like a party. Good flavors, good vibes, good company, and good music (I had my Shazam ON). I was dancing in my seat the whole night. I really like their playlist. My fiancé and I are a big fan of the Buffalo flavored wings. We were surprised when the waitress told us people don't get Buffalo as much as the Yum Yum. We liked the Yum Yum sauce too, but wished that the sauce had been a bit thicker. Loved the prime beef fried rice. The pickled radish was our favorite part of the dish. Hoping next time I can try cooking the meats on the grill. Thank you Perilla for a great time.

We were quite excited for this place, as it's one of the few Asian restaurants on the Michelin guide that aren't omakase. We ordered the premium course to share, the wagyu, the kimchi rice special, and a silky spicy tofu stew. I was not big on the meat as it was not marinated, and the sauces they provided for free were quite flat. It's also $20/pp for sauces and banchan, which is quite unheard of in KBBQ and Korean restaurants. However, we really enjoyed the kimchi fried rice on their specials menu, and we also received a complimentary seaweed stew for their anniversary ~|While the meal was satisfying enough, I can't say I was impressed and I'd much rather go to Holu for fancy cuts or Gyu Kaku for a filling BBQ. There was also a random 5% "optional" service charge that wasn't really optional. I'm just not quite sure on this place - to me, it seems tacky to add so many small surcharges, whether for sauces, banchan, or service, and I honestly think they should just raise prices slightly overall.

We went to celebrate a birthday at Perilla Fare - don't let the name fool you, this is a legit Korean BBQ house serving up the goodies west of the river. Yes, the drinks are great (they even had unusual non-alcoholic beer, which is always a plus for my crowd). Yes, the intro broths and panchan are good. Yes, the mandu and other appetizers hit the spot. But the real star of the restaurant is the beef. High quality, perfectly marbled and delicious, you only have a few moments to admire them before the rest of your party slaps them onto the grill. Before long, you're savoring the beauty of delicious, authentic Korean BBQ. If you're looking for a great, communal dining spot with great food and a fun atmosphere, get to Perilla on Milwaukee & Desplaines!

Perilla offers a unique and upscale twist on Korean BBQ, but my experience was a mix of highs and lows. Here's a detailed rundown:What I Loved:- Salmon Crudo (Special Menu Item): Absolutely delicious! The accompanying seaweed chips were a perfect match.- Perilla Set: The rice cake dish, dumplings, and soybean stew were all exceptionally flavorful and stood out as highlights of the meal.- Ambiance: The restaurant boasts a spacious and smoke-free environment, which is a welcome change from many other Korean BBQ spots. What I Didn't Love:- Tasting Plates: we got two tasting plates (traditional and premium) and the portion sizes were disappointingly small. Neither sets were particularly memorable and some cuts were on the chewier side.- Extra Charges for Banchan and Dipping Sauces: This was a big letdown. I've never been to a Korean restaurant that charges for side dishes and sauces, let alone at a steep $20 per person.- Service Expectations: For a meal totaling over $200 for two people, plus a 5% Kitchen Staff Assistance fee, I expected more comprehensive service. Unfortunately, we had to cook most of the meat ourselves. The staff member who assisted us was not very friendly and only cooked one cut of meat before leaving us to handle the rest.In summary, Perilla has some standout dishes and a pleasant dining atmosphere, but the extra charges and lack of comprehensive service diminish the overall experience. For the price point, I expected a higher level of service and meat quality that justify the cost.

Overall the lounge menu was good. The service and environment is great and staff is so sweet, overall had a nice night out.I'd like to come back sometime to try the KBBQ.The best item was definitely the fried chicken. It's hand breaded and so crispy. The bimbimbop was good but no option for stone bowl. The fried sweet and sour pork sounded good but not what I was expecting, I was assuming it would just be crispy pork belly but it was tempura fried. The sauce was great though we took it home and ended up cooking chicken with it with what was leftover. The sauce had some veggies in it and was great. The Korean JJ noodles were good and a large portion.Overall I value flavor first and then cost, I've had a variety of good Korean food but generally at a lower price so I'm not sure this is for a perfect fit for me but it was still a nice time and the staff was fabulous. Thanks Perilla!

We made a reservation on a Sunday at 5:15pm to celebrate my birthday. Our server Mags was very informative with the selection and offered a couple of suggestions on both cocktails and the tasting plates. We ended up ordering 2 cocktails, the traditional and premium tasting plates, and the perilla sets. The tasting menus were first grilled by one of the grilling crew, and after he instructed us on one, he said we would be able to finish the rest on our own. Here are my individual takes on each item:Cloud 9 - sweeter end with a nice matcha finishGolden Hour - sweet, refreshing, citrus-forward drinkPork Dumplings - 5/5 my husband said they were the best dumplings he'd ever had! They were crisped to perfection, and the sauce was tangy, sweet, and savory. Rice Cake Royale - 3/5 pretty decent and filling dish. Sweetened, fire-grilled bulgogi with large, chewy rice cakes. We opted not to finish this dish to have room for our tasting plates. Traditional Menu - 4.5/5 we really enjoyed the traditional stylings of pork belly and marinated LA Kalbi. Definitely were some of our favorite bites of the evening. Premium Menu - 2/5 decently sized cubes of a variety of beefs. Honestly, I don't really like non-marinated Kalbi for Korean bbq, so this menu was so-so for us. I'd probably prefer an American steak over this. Assorted Banchans - 4/5 the white and regular kimchis were pretty on the mark. I had a few kimchi wraps with my rice! I enjoyed the crispiness of the jalapeno pickle. The scallion salad also paired pretty well with the meats. The pickled radish was a little too fermented for my taste; it might have been better a little sweeter. Soybean Paste Soup and Rice - 2/5 we got one bowl of rice for the couple, so this was a little surprising for us since most KBBQ places give you one rice per person. The soybean paste soup did not have as deep/umami of a flavor as I'm used to. I also prefer a bit more kick in my soups. Generally, we enjoyed our visit to Perilla for the service and ambience. Next time, we might stick to some of the specials and order more a la carte so that we pick our favorites. At the end of our visit, Mags brought out a couple of soju shots to celebrate our special occasion! All in all, a lovely and memorable night!

Food options were 1000/10, so many different options and for any preference. Highly recommend the honey butter potatoes and kimchi fried rice. Everything was so flavorful. And you have to mix ingredients for the best flavors. Service was impeccable we had multiple servers that had their own tasks - drinks, food, checking in. The atmosphere is great, the way the tables are set up is inviting for large groups which I love, but also can be intimate! I'll be back soon :)

Finally got a chance to check out this new Korean BBQ spot with a touch of American fare! It's located in Chicago's West Loop. The ambiance is definitely more upscale than any Korean BBQ place I've been to. It has trendy decor with a cool Korean alphabet wall! I will say, this restaurant is tailored to non-Koreans, and my Korean friends and I were disappointed. The service was not too bad but pretty inconsistent unfortunately. We waited an additional 15 minutes for our reservation after getting there early. There were 3-4 different servers that came to our table and was very confused at who was supposed to be helping us. Our water was refilled constantly, almost to the point where it was too much. They also forgot to turn on our grill so we had to wait a while before actually getting to grill our meat.We wanted to do the tasting plates with the combo, but they required the entire table to participate so we did not do it. Instead, we got a few plates of individual meats and some appetizers. The food itself was pretty good quality but definitely way overpriced for the amount of food you get. They start you with a soft broth as a palate cleanser, which tasted like anchovy broth with a little bit of chili oil. We got the shishito peppers, salmon crudo, pork belly, LA galbi, and soft soon tofu stew. The peppers were the best part. They were juicy, seasoned perfectly, with small little fish on top. The salmon crudo was not what I wanted from a crudo. It came as more of a tartare and the salmon itself wasn't very fresh. However, the combination of flavors with the crema and the crispy nori was unique. The pork belly was high quality but the galbi wasn't anything special. We also got the soon tofu (soon dubu) stew and it did not taste authentic. The flavors of sesame oil was overwhelming and there was way too much going on in the stew. For the pork belly, we had someone cook the meat for us. As a Korean, I know that you're not supposed to flip the meat too much because then it loses its char and juices and makes it more tough. The server who was grilling, who was also not our original server, flipped the pork belly after around a minute, which left all of us confused. We did not make the same mistake with the galbi. What was the most disappointing was that we had to pay for the side dishes. In any authentic Korean place, the side dishes should come first and for free. Instead, they charged $20 for some side dishes and ssam, which is the lettuce you can wrap the meat in. We did not partake. If you're looking for a hip place to check out with your friends, this could be your spot. But if you want authentic Korean food and lots of BBQ, this isn't the place for you.

Our table wasn't ready so we went to get a drink in back lounge. Cute lounge. You can choose from a tasting menu or a la carte menu. We did a la carte. Pork belly, wagyu and short ribs. Korean pancakes, Kimchi stew and the grill accompaniments. Super yummy and we were so full. Meats are grilled by the wait staff. Service was great and attentive.
