Unfortunately the mochi was hard when it finally got to me in California.
What the Hojicha looked inside. The cookie was good, it was soft. The matcha was my favorite flavor though.

Boom! What a gem of a place. Not only do you get to support a local company but you are getting some really unique and amazing cookies.I ordered some peppermint macarons, mochi ube, and sesame cookies. These were amazing! I love the the color contrast for the mochi ube. The powdered sugar was just the right amount to match with the nice deep purple of the ube. The mochi after microwaving about 10-15 seconds for four were so goey and just so flavorful. As with any mochi, the fresher you eat it the better it will be! The sesame cookies were amazing! I love the taste of sesame and just look at the color gradient! Its just an amazing set of color. Finally the peppermint is just great for the holidays. I really love the flavor and the amazing details in the design! Can you guess what it is?I definitely would suggest trying this small little bakery out. Always great to get in before the crowd gets to it!

The textures in the ube crinkle and black sesame cookies are amazing, to say nothing of the rare flavors. The cookie part is crumbly like these kinds of cookies should be, but somehow not dry (maybe the mochi helps). Microwaving them a little before eating makes the mochi chewy again, but it also makes the cookie part delicious and much more like it's fresh out of the oven. (Jennifer bakes orders on the day that they're scheduled for pickup, so they're already very fresh, but adding that extra warmth right before eating makes them :100emoji:).The black sesame is a lot less sweet than a typical American cookie, so I think it's a great flavor for adult palates! Idk about you but I can't eat Chips Ahoy anymore without feeling like I've entered the 6th dimension of sugar highs and crashes. The black sesame is a strong enough flavor that it goes very well with the mochi filling. The ube cookie itself is also not very sweet, but covered in a light dusting of powdered sugar that gives it more of a desserty taste than the black sesame. Ube is in general a subtle flavor, so if you are getting it because you're obsessed with ube, you might want to skip the mochi, which does have its own flavor that can be distracting. The mochi filling is nicely chewy after microwaving, and has a hint of that fresh rice flavor that mochi should have! On the scale of Whole Foods mochi to super-expensive Japanese luxury mochi, the mochi filling of Peony's cookies is a lot closer to the Japanese stuff, but with better quality-to-price ratio IMO.The owners run a kind and honest business (don't know how they do it on top of their day jobs) with amazing, unique desserts. On top of the regular Asian-specialty cookie flavors, they also sometimes do limited runs of interesting new items, like currently there are Thai/oolong tea cheesecakes. Follow their Instagram to keep up to date!

I love this bakery!! my sister brought me some ube crinkle cookies from here and they are hands down my favorite. I tried to make some one and could not get to even a fraction of how amazing Peony's is 10/10 cookies.

This place is a hidden gem and Jennifer is a rockstar! We got a strawberry and vanilla naked Cake for our ceremony and it turned out to be wonderful. Jennifer was kind and patient with my questions and worked with me to make sure I got the cake of my dreams. Really happy with how it looked and tasted! All our guests loved it as well.

I discovered Peony Bakery by chance when my friend was scrolling through her Facebook feed. Our eyes became fixated on their ube mochi cookies being pulled apart. I knew I had to get my hands on these gooey delights! After browsing through their Instagram, I realized they did not have a storefront yet and it was important to place your order in advance. For my first order, I got their ube mochi and matcha mochi cookies. In addition, I did a half order of their plain ube and matcha cookies. I absolutely loved the richness of the matcha flavor, but the ube mochi cookies stole my heart! I loved them so much that I shared them with some dear friends who also became hooked! My next trip was sparked by their seasonal milk tea bombs. I'm a huge hojicha lover and bought 4 of these to try. They went perfectly with oat milk and I was sad I didn't get more. Fortunately, they still have them in stock and now do hot cocoa bombs! Needless to say, I just placed an order for a dozen ube mochi cookies, some hot cocoa bombs, a taro milk tea bomb, and some hojicha milk tea bombs. I highly recommend you get your hands on their drink bombs before they stop making them next month! They are an absolute treat!I would love to try their Shortbread Cookies & Milk Tea Latte Set, but it's usually sold out. I strongly suggest ordering their baked goods a week in advance. They do ship their cookies, but not the drink bombs. Not only do they have a regular rotation of their baked goods, you can also place a special order for cakes. I love supporting local businesses, and this husband and wife team are great and so communicative! You'll thank me later for indulging on Peony's treats.

After posting my previous review, the owner emailed me directly to offer to replace my order in which the all the mochi had hardened and become inedible. Her promptness in addressing it wins 5 stars in customer service. She was also kind enough to throw in an extra flavor of cookies that I had not ordered in my original order.I'm happy to report that these were better than the last batch I had received! I did have to microwave them for 15 seconds before the mochi returned to its stretchy, gooey consistency but they really did taste great when I did that. I noticed as the more days passed after I received the cookies, the longer I had to microwave the cookies before the mochi in the center wasn't hard anymore. Still good though! The ube flavor is actually my favorite now out of their black sesame, hojicha, and matcha flavors. Overall, I'm satisfied with these cookies and was happy to share them with my family. They liked that these cookies aren't overbearingly sweet, which I can also attest to. I am not giving a full 5 stars because although it's not the most troublesome thing to do, it is slightly annoying to have to microwave these every single time I want to eat them. Plus it is a little confusing to figure out how long to microwave them after each day since it requires more time as each day passes (this is only a problem if you ordered as many cookies as I did though, which was 3 dozen). I wish that it was made clear on the website that I would've had to do this before I ordered so many of them. Still, mad respect for the business owner, Jennifer, for going out of her way to replace my previous order. I would definitely recommend this bakery to my friends.

I don't usually venture out to bakeries but my friend gifted me these and it came through the mail. Friend said it would get to me by Friday, but ended up coming the next day! Before I knew it. I finished the whole bag in one sitting and will be ordering from them personally. The Mochi center is very soft in the cookie and cookie itself and even though it's covered it sugar, I was surprised at how they weren't crazy sweet. One thing I wish was they had a subscription service or shipments on the weekends. But I found out a teacher runs it all, so it's highly admirable of her and her significant other. If you haven't tried yet, you're missing out. They are addicting!

I've ordered from Jenny a few times already and each time the process was painless, you just have to plan ahead to out in an order for a week or two out. Cookies are delicious, macarons are adorable, and milk tea bombs are amazing. Very quick responses and communication via Instagram. Just wish she had more pick up date/times but it's understandable with her other job.
