Ototo Sushi

Talk about good food and service! Came here for one of my co-workers birthday luncheon, some of the guests didn't make it on time but all of their food came out at the same time as ours, even though they ordered a good 15 minutes after everyone. I got their cilantro lemon roll X2, because those are my all time favorite, it did not disappoint. From their appetizers I tried their calamari and the breading was FIRE! And whatever dip sauce they had was so so good! Location is great even though it's in liberty center it's kind of separate on its own with another smaller business but means parking is plentiful without walking far to get to it Our server was great, he helped us just at the right time, he came to our table not too frequently but didn't abandon us either. He made small conversation with us here and there so that was nice too!

This place is a mixed bag. If you go when it's not very crowded - like 4:30 pm or so, you'll enjoy good service (and often Happy Hour prices). If you happen to go when it's busy, expect slower service and harried employees. The sushi is good enough. If you go during Happy Hour, they offer nice sized basic rolls, tempura, and a few other items at very good prices. Food comes out quickly when they're not busy. The ambiance is meh, although the patio can be surprisingly pleasant in good weather. The wooden whale lamps hanging inside are interesting and unique. We like Ototo, but if the dining area is fairly busy when we arrive, we'll often go elsewhere.

We used to come to this spot often when it was called 'Sushiya'.It was our all time favorite restaurant where we always looked forward to getting our favorites.I have been to this location as OTOTO SUSHI a handful of times before our recent last visit and were always very satisfied with the service and food.This time was just different and we were sadly disappointed by the food. The service was great, but the food was not. It just didn't taste the same and the quality is not as good.Items we got:1. Agedashi Tofu- tofu is normally cooked longer, outside crispy but uber soft in the middle. Later on, the tofu turned into soft blobs. 3/52. Sunset roll- This over the years was the main reason why I would dine here.  The seared tuna on top with the garlic Tataki sauce was perfect. This time the rice was harder, the tuna pieces were not cut very well and long, hardly any searing and there was a drop of sauce. We had to flip over and inspect to see if there was any sauce at all.  The seasoning was way off and the roll was not good. Sadly disappointed since this roll used to be insanely tasty. 1/5 3. Chicken Karaage- This dish should be made with dark meat, but they use white meat. I have had this in the past here and it was not bad, but this time, it was too dry and overdone. I will not be getting this again if they continue to use white meat.1/54. Salmon skin roll- My sister got this roll and she said it was fine. 5/55. Crunchy roll-  This roll was our favorite from this location, other places do the crunchy roll as well but it was the best here. This time, it tasted off, the seasoning was missing something and the rice was too hard. 3/56. Mr. Miyagi 2.0 roll- We decided to try this one out.  (top) seared salmon, avocado,  soy marinated jalapeño,creamy jalapeno sauce (inside) shrimp tempura, krabThis one was pretty good, the soy marinated jalapeno was different and made this dish 4/5I won't be heading here again for a while. I expect the food to be dang good especially for the prices. I hope they check out some reviews and improve their food.Service: 5/5Ambiance: 4.5/5Food:2.5/5

Sushi was actually so good and decently priced! The service was great they were super kind and food was brought fast despite there being a full inside. Also so cute outside

Everyone has their fave sushi joint and I am no exception so when my husband suggested we branch out and try another restaurant in our neighborhood I was skeptical. And I'm here to say - branch out from time to time! We had a GREAT meal at Ototo Sushi. Our server was super friendly and attentive. It's a big place and it was packed on a Monday night. Our food came out with good timing and everything was delicious. We sat inside but there is a patio as well. The fish was fresh and the roll we ordered was huge. I'm so glad we have another fave sushi spot to put on our list!

Great for dine in and Togo. Staff is very friendly. My favorite rolls are BRUCE LEE 12.50 (top) seared salmon, avocado, spicy mayo, and tataki garlic sauce(inside) shrimp tempura, krab and the LEMON CILANTRO 12.50(top) salmon, lemon, avocado, cilantro, ponzu sauce, green onion, (inside) krab, Avocado, cucumb. THE LEMON CILANTRO IS ONE OF THE BEST SUSHI ROLLS I HAVE EVER HAD. Can't wait to return. Great location on Point Loma.

Came to pick up some sushi and have lunch at Shelter Island sitting by the bay! Their service was fast and they brought the big bag out to the car! Love this place!

Pretty good. Rolls were good, good ratios of ingredients, fish was fresh, prices were reasonable, and restaurant and bathrooms were clean. I love lemon on sushi, perks up the freshness of the fish--the lemon cilantro roll was perfect. The salmon belly nigiri was very buttery, and the eel nigiri had good texture and flavor.Ordered the baked miso salmon, and this was just OK. I probably wouldn't order this again. I was going for a protein heavy dish, and this wasn't terrible, but it didn't wow me.Service was very good, and the rolls came out so fast! Garlic edamame deserves some recognition, too. Would order it again.

I was in San Diego and found this place on Yelp. This is a great place to go for sushi and the fish tasted fresh. We ordered the Yellowtail Tiradito to start, Rainbow Roll, Lemon Cilantro Roll, Point Break Roll, and the Toro Belly Nigiri. All of the food items were fresh and delicious.They have beee and wine here, and a glass of white wine was paired with the sushi. The service was also good. I would definitely come back next time I am in the area. I saw that they had a happy hour so I need to check that out!

I haven't had sushi in quite some time. My coworker and I had to work late and do inventory. Ototo was the perfect dinner. I can't wait to take the family out here for sushi!!
