The Jerk Grill

So there's not many Jamaican restaurants in town and so when I noticed this spot as I drived by I quickly added it to my must trys. I read previous reviews and they seemed to be either a hit or miss (more because of service than food) so I thought even more reason to come try for myself. I know for some, service can be a deal breaker but for me the right food will make it hard for me to turn away and hey maybe it was just the way I was raised - be nice to the cook or anyone handling your food, for various reasons Lol.. Moving on, I came in the evening about half past six. Service felt normal or regular, considering the time of day most people will not be up and arms and that's ok... Off the bat Im going to assume it's probably run by a single person too since that's all I saw there. She was in the back of the kitchen when we came in which tells me she was probably multitasking. Along with the help sign in the front. So I give it to her. Anyway, moving on to the food, I got the large size ox tail, rice a peas, cabbage, sweet plantain. The food was already prepared up front. Admittably, I was not to into the fact that I could see it was sitting but still covered of course - not "just made" however when I came home I heated it up and could tell it was made same day which was fine and understandable. This portion is easily shared between 2 people. The oxtail it was nice and tender and the taste was the authentic Jamaican flavors you find. The rice and peas paired nicely. The cabbage was really coleslaw since it was cold but ok nonetheless. I was craving the hot cabbage you typically find but still managed. I rate it 3.5 stars since I am more about finding real authentic food and supporting local businesses. I also think it has potential to be a solid 4 or more if I catch it fresh/earlier in the day or some small tweaks. With that said, I don't mind my food cold with a side of a little attitude as long as it can speak for itself. Now now there! :-)

3.5 stars due to serviceI always get the Large Oxtail plate! They are NOT stingy with the portions and the meat is crazy tender and falls off the bone. It's not super greasy and the minimal fat pieces I get are a nice balance. The beef patty has a nice flaky texture and tastes fresh! They don't typically answer phones for orders. You need to come in AND have time because the server moves at their own pace: SLOW. I came in around 11am and I was 2nd in line. It still took about 8-10 mins to get my food and check out. A second employee came out to speed things up while I was checking out because there were 2-3 people behind me. Their methods are inefficient but the food is GOOD! I come back when I have an Oxtail craving and I'm mentally capable for the wait.

The customer service is awful and their food is average at best. On two separate occasion the same individual has been very unprofessional and demeaning towards me. Both of these incidents resulted in me walking out with any food. Keep me mind after the first incident I stayed away for 6 months hoping she would no longer be there. That was not the case. I've never had bad experiences with anyone else. This individual claims to be the owner of the restaurant. Why would I go back? I cook all of my own Jamaican dishes at home. But who wants to always cook. Sometimes you just want the food prepared for you. It sucks not having that option.Lack of options for this cuisine in our part of town seems to have emboldened this restaurant to treat customers poorly. I will no longer patronize this business. Patronize at your own risk. Again, this food is average at best and the customer service is awful.

I really enjoy the jerk chicken and the red pea soup, I would highly recommend. I also love their patties, specifically the jerk chicken.Depending on the cashier they aren't always the most friendly or attentive.I personally have never sat and ate there I always take it to go.

Ordered 6 patties and coco bread and they were amazing. Staff was super kind and provided great service. Will come again for sure!

Had the oxtail, curry chicken and brown stew chicken with macaroni and cheese, rice and peas and cabbage. Everything was very good, flavorful and tasted fresh. The owners are very nice, friendly and helpful. Just be sure to go early because they run out. There's only on table, good for carry out or ordering online.

The owner is not nice at all the food is okay if it's your last resort to me customer service should be the first priority and being nice to people that lady ain't nice at all

When a Jamaican man comes in to order food from a Jamaican restaurant and tells you it's just like the islands, you better believe him.Lots of bang for your buck. They serve their lunch special all day: $5 for jerk chicken, curry chicken or brown stew chicken with rice & peas (beans) and cabbage & carrots. They were out of their brown stew chicken by dinner time so I'd recommend you pounce on it for lunch. All of the food was solid. I especially enjoyed the curry chicken, it had a beautiful, well-developed flavor that paired perfectly with the rice & beans and cabbage. Their Jamaican patties were INCREDIBLE and just the right amount of spicy. I finished off my meal with a Ting, which is a crisp grapefruit soda that is popular in the Caribbean. On top of it all, the staff is very friendly! I'll definitely continue to come here during the summer for takeout :)

I have eaten here several times in the past and the food is consistently outstanding! Recently they catered an event for me and everyone raved about the food. It was fresh, ready on time and delicious!

This was my first time here. The recommendation came from a reliable source. Excellent food and excellent customer service. Had the oxtails with rice and peas and salad. Delicious! I will be back.
