Shang Hai Chinese Restaurants

I'm used to various Chinese take out places, with rare exception the places look run down - however the food is usually good. In this case, the counter service was gruff, the chicken in my chicken chow mein smelled fishy, the vegetables smelled rotten and it stunk up my car. I'll be reliving this disgusting experience until I disinfect my car. If you feel like going here, instead just fish around in the trash can and eat whatever comes up - it'll be cheaper. I feel like vomiting.

Have been getting take out from this place for years and haven't had a complaint before but after last night, not sure if we will order from them again. Placed our order and when my husband arrived home with it we saw they had left out his portion of the order. He couldn't go back to get it as they were already closed and couldn't find his receipt to make sure we weren't charged for the missing meal. I tried calling on the off chance I could leave a message and reached whom I assume was one of the owner's, a woman, who proceeded to SCREAM at me that yes, she had forgotten to include the meal but had charged us no money and then hung up on me. Needless to say I didn't appreciate being screamed at for simply trying to clear up a situation that involved an error on their part. Doubt we will be returning.

We live nearby and are longtime customers. We do takeout often. The food is good and consistent. I have never had a compalnt, but I have witnessed complainers being yelled at. The owner has the warmth and compassion of the "Soup Nazi" on the "Seinfeld Show". It doesn't bother me. Regulars think it's kind of funny.

The food is really good, they have it ready in less than 10 minuets. The service is just terrible though. Walked in one time and everyone that worked there was eating together at one of the tables. Did not say one word to us, not a single hello, and we stood at the counter waiting to order for almost 5 minuets until someone got up from the table and took out order. They never seem happy and almost act as if they are doing us a favor by cooking our food, when in fact we our the ones paying for their service to do just that.

Food is ok, takes longer than 20 min that they tell you over the phone FREE wonton soup with $25 purchase if you ask.

I don't know what happened yesterday, but my usual order of Pork Egg Foo Young was not good. It actually was tasteless and bordered on smelling bad. The younger man, that normally takes the phone orders was not there ... just two of them in back taking turns answering the phone and cooking. They are closed on Mondays and this was Tuesday. Made me wonder if they were using old oil to fry in or if the ingredients were not fresh. I will not be going back.

Owners son seemed to have awnsered when I placed an order over the phone and he was very rude, although his parents were very nice. But the food was nasty and the chicken seemed under cooked and kinda chewy..

My wife and I have been going to this small strip mall Chinese restaurant for more than 10-12 years. I have tried many places in Lakeland and I always come back to Shang Hai on Griffin Rd because it has the best taste and a generous amount of food for the money. I recently travelled to New York-Staten Island exactly and tried some of the restaurants there. Ha! I was shocked at the yuck that I had there. Lakeland has restaurants that are as good as it gets. And this is one of them. If you are in the area, do stop by and try this place out.

Worst customer service because the rude old lady in the front didn't pay me my change right , she said I need to go back to school infront of my daughter and she told my husband don't play with her very childish and immature over a simple mistake I told her keep the change just add an egg roll for me and she said no most pathetic women didn't want to admit to a simple mistake someone please tell this women 11-330 they do have a 5.75 lunch special not 7.50 each I did purchase 2 lunch special for almost 16$ then this old women said don't come back , didn't plan on it

My wife found a bug in her rice and a hair in her egg roll. I called to let them know and they told me I was full of s$!t. I posted a picture of the bug and hairy egg roll.
