My sister and her husband took me and my husband out to dinner at this fabulous restaurant, we wanted German food and we're not disappointed. Started with a sample of banana bread, warm fresh out of oven. Had a great glass of wine and a good German beer. Next came an outrageous large warm fluffy yeast roll, the smell was intoxicating and the first bite was heaven! We ordered the asparagus soup and a cucumber salad, which reminded me of my grandmothers, it was divine. We could have stopped at the soup and roll but then came the Beef Stroganoff, Filet Tips sautéed in Sour Cream Mushroom Brown Sauce, served in a Puff Pastry Basket..not only a beautiful presentation but delicious. We also enjoyed the Bavarian Schnitzel, Prime cut sautéed in classic manner, baked with Creamy Butter Cheese. My brother in law ordered the Karling's Chicken Schnitzel, a Breast of Chicken breaded and sautéed, topped with mushroom and Butter Cheese, served with Red Wine Poached Apple Sauce, and fresh green beans. Everything was the best and we enjoyed the red cabbage and Potatoes Kraut Pancakes. If that wasn't enough we had a Bavarian Cream Puff. The owner is the nicest person, it's family run, everything is made to order, fresh from scratch. You won't be disappointed, we all highly recommend this restaurant.

To start with, the food was decent but not where it would cause me the desire to go back for. It's the lack of service and how they structure their order process that would cause us to not go back. Plus the pricing in relation to other similar restaurants, would be reason enough for us to go to another German restaurant instead. The family sitting next to us had 5pm reservations and the couple next to them we were told also were sat around 5pm. Our reservation was at 7pm and we didn't have anyone even come to our table for 30+ minutes. We did finally get our drink order where we also put our food order in as we well, to hopefully save some time. Each order around us had multiple errors in their order. The family next to us took it in stride but they left at 8:30pm, which to me a 3 1/2 hour service is so over the top. At 8:30pm a table towards the restroom was also leaving and the gentleman was saying how he was upset it took 3 1/2 hours for them too. One of our schnitzels was extremely pink in the center but since it was piping hot we ate it. Another thing that is strange is that you don't get to pick your sides, we were told this by two of the restaurant workers. On this occasion we got spaetzle and green beans. We were told red cabbage at the ordering time but then when the food actually came out they said they ran out. Ran out? On their first day of service of the two days they are actually open and they ran out?! A German restaurant with no red cabbage and I've lived in Germany and am half German, these sides are so typical and should always be on hand and plenty made. Also the spaetzle was not spaetzle. It was some tasty concoction but it wasn't spaetzle. The cucumber salad was good though and the schnitzel was average but good. Another weird thing is there were anchovies on the lemon squeeze placed on top of my schnitzel. Never seen that before, nor would I want to see anchovies on schnitzel. Overall the food saved this from being a 1 star experience, but we won't be back. Lastly, even with putting our order in as quick as a server came to our table it wound up being 2 hours total.

I wanted to like this place. I love German food, love seafood, love mom and pop restaurants. I did not love my visit. The positives:Cute atmosphere Amazing bread basket Delicious sides The negatives: ServiceFoodWe came on a Friday night at 6:30 and there were one or two tables to the left and one large party to the right. We were seated right next to the large (loud) party. Service is SLOW. One girl (the hostess) was doing water, running dishes and then an older woman was our actual waitress. The waitress told us the soup is cream of white asparagus and took our order. My cousin and I got the prime rib, medium rare, and my father got the pork schnitzel von meer. 10 minutes later, their salads and my soup came out. I took a spoonful and...lobster? It definitely looked like lobster bisque, white with a pale pink hue from some red flecks I thought were paprika. My cousin and father both confirmed, some kind of shellfish soup. They both had the salad with hot bacon dressing which was good but oddly for a house salad, they had strawberries, dried blueberries and almonds. I brought up the soup issue to the hostess and she confirmed the soup of the day IS lobster bisque, the waitress must've just made a mistake. Yet I heard the waitress minutes later tell another table it was cream of white asparagus. That's a huge red flag for allergy purposes, and unfortunately set the tone for more disappointment. 15 minutes later, entrees came. You can see from my photo my prime rib was nowhere near medium rare, I would barely call it medium. My cousin's wasn't much better. I do have to say the green beans and the potato kraut pancakes were good though. But the meat was dry, and even the au jus couldn't save it. My father's schnitzel was cooked perfectly, but the sauce killed it. The langostines tasted fishy and like they had been thawed and frozen a few times. The spätzle was delicious though, nice and crispy from the fry in butter and a good seasoning. The red cabbage however was way too sweet and barely had any of the lovely tartness I expected. At this point I was starting to feel queasy because it was very stuffy and warm in there. The AC was on but not on cool, and while I do admit I'm a pansy when it comes to stuffy warm rooms, I guess it's a blessing in this case that I lost most of my appetite because the food was a huge letdown so I didn't miss out on much.10 minutes after we got our dishes, the waitress came by to check and saw my cousin barely ate her meat. We hate to complain, but we admitted it was very dry and over cooked. She stared at us and said "but it's so nice and pink" we disagreed, explained that medium rare means pink almost all the way to the edges. She stared at us a bit more, asked my cousin if she wanted some au jus, but she declined. Another stare, then she asked if we wanted to box it up, and we declined. Final stare, she took my cousin's plate and walked off. My father and I had a few more bites before giving up on the food miraculously tasting any better. The waitress came back and looked at our half-eaten plates, asked if we wanted to box it up, and we got another stare when we declined. She came back with the check and explained their internet was out and if we paid by card it wouldn't get charged until it was back up. We paid in cash and headed out, disappointed that we drove all that way for such a poor experience. I can forgive slow service for many reasons - very busy, short staffed, or if the food is awesome I'm perfectly happy to wait for great grub. But I saw neither crowds nor a huge urgency to serve multiple tables (there were only about 4 tables at any given time). After all that though, I still want to try the Twin Brothers bakery next door, because that bread was fantastic.

What a let down. French Onion soup on the menu ~~ Didn't have any.Saurbraten on the menu ~~ Didn't have that either! WHAT!?!?Beef Stroganoff ~~ Not as described in the menu! More like a meat pie in gravy. It was good, but not what we ordered. Came in a puff pastry bowl that was ok, served with green beans & a potato puff. No noodles, no mashed potatoes. Just this dried up potatoe thing. The two 16 year old twins playing piano & serving the food & drinks were sweet & very talented. But the beer that took 25 minutes getting to us was wonderful ~~We were one of 4 couple in the restaurant & this dinner took 3 HOURS.

Had not been to Karling's in years. Food was ok, I had trout which was cooked properly but did not have a lot of flavor, my cucumber salad was excellent. My husband had the crab cakes that he said were good. One of our party did not get what she ordered, but did not say anything because we did not think we could wait for anything else to be prepared. The dishes were all cooked to order, the chief was alone. The hostess, waitress and everything else was a very pleasant nice women who had a restaurant full and did her very best. We had a 6pm reservation and did not leave until 9:15pm.

Excellent food and love the owners personal touches. We were there for my wife's birthday. I mentioned that it was her birthday and thought nothing about it. After our meal the owner's twin sons "happened" to come into the restaurant and a short time later the lights dimmed and he played happy birthday on the piano and they brought a piece of cake out with a lit candle to our table. What a wonderful personal touch. Made our day!The food was great - We were in the mood for seafood. Wonderful fresh bread to start & escargot as an appetizer. Was amazing. Lori had the Chilean Sea Bass & I had the Black Grouper. Both were some of the best we ever tasted. The next time we plan to try some of the German dishes on the menu. Everything was wonderful.
