This is the home of 2010 Duck Curry Competition Winner!Okay let's check 'em out. Look carefully in this strip plaza along Old Winter Garden Rd. at Hiawassee Rd.or you may pass it by. There are no bright visible signs on the building's structure, just the neon "Open" sign and a painted sign in the window. Regardless, the space is rows of tables and chairs with a counter at the end. Decor...move on.On this Saturday night, at about 8pm they were almost out of everything. There was no roti, no dhal puri, and the fried rice would have taken 45 mins to cook. Must be yummy. Ok, whats left? Curry duck and rice. Okay one order please. The very straight faced, non interactive, no words, just head and hand gestures counter person disappeared through a door. I could hear the curry being reheated in a cooking vessel. He came back out 10 mins later with a to go bag and two containers. While I was waiting, I glanced around at the couple of tables with men sitting around with numerous beer bottles on the tables. What is it with West Indian men hanging out in restaurants and guzzling dozens and dozens of beer? I also peered in the beer display cooler and to my surprise for a place that boast "We serve beer and wine" on their flyer, there were no West Indian beers and one bottle of White Zinfandel. Maybe they stored them somewhere else? As I looked around the tables there were Heineken and Bud Light. I did not want to ask just in case the counter person chased me with a cutlass. The serving portion was very generous. There was ample rice, packed separately. The duck meat was tender fall off the bone goodness. Skin was definitely browned before simmering in the curry sauce. The sauce's consistency was very balanced not too watery but not too thick. However, the flavor profile was lacking. Maybe I was expecting for a "Duck Curry Competition Winner" that there would have been a distinctive taste or something special. Nada, Nothing, Flat. It was extremely mild and lacked the punch a West Indian curry should carry. There was an underlining heat that was all pepper and no spice. Heat level was quite distracting from the curry and duck flavors. Almost masking the flavor profiles. If this is the gold standard of Duck Curry in Orlando, then this upcoming 6th Annual Central Florida Official Duck Curry Competition is wide open for the taking.

My first visit to Indra's was not a positive one. It was a Sunday afternoon. Upon entering the restaurant and standing at the counter with menu in hand for too long before being acknowledged. Actually, no one ever appeared to take my order. Besides myself in the restaurant was a group of very comfortably seated teenagers, chatting and giggling at a table. That day Indra's missed out on my business and I missed out on a hot lunch (ended up with a sandwich made at home). I waited a few months before returning to Indra's to give the place a try. My next visit I was asked for my order as I approached the counter. I ordered a small chicken fried rice. It was ready to-go within 20 minutes. The rice was seasoned well, the chicken also had nice flavor, drizzled with a sweet brown gravy like sauce. I like pepper sauce, so I added that to my plate. I've been back two other occasions for the chicken and rice meal. One time for the lo mein (not that impressed).

Thought the food was good. But horrible customer service. I called in an order. Was quoted 20 mins then they called me back saying it would be 45 mins.... And if I still wanted it! I said ok??! Yea! We got there 45 mins later and had to wait another 40 mins for the food! What?!?! And they were not busy.

ALMOST AN HOUR FOR A TO GO ORDER!!! I returned to INDRA'S KITCHEN after work Friday night. I work approximately 70 hours a week, so Friday night is special for my wife and I. I ordered during my drive to Indra's Kitchen. Very simple order (1) Large Mixed Lo Mein and (1) Large Chicken Fried Rice. I ordered 20 minutes before my arrival so I can quickly pay and bring home to my wife. When I arrived I reminded the young lady of my order. She said it will be ready in a few minutes. Time went by and she returned to call back my order to me "2 orders Fried Rice?". I repeated my order (3rd time). She said the chef made 2 fried rice and will have to prepare the Mixed Lo Mein dish. I asked for a beer while I wait. I spent 30 minutes at the bar waiting for a To Go order placed 50 MINUTES PRIOR. I normally tip $10 on my TO GO orders at restaurants (gesture to show my appreciation with respect to my TIME, ACCURACY OF ORDER and DELIVER FOOD HOT. Unfortunately, I was offered nothing with respect to my TIME when their young lady made a mistake calling my order to the kitchen. So, I kept their $10 tip on my $25 order.
