Carter's BBQ & Soul Food

I zipped over to this tiny place for a quick BBQ lunch and unfortunately, the results were mixed.This is a take-out only place where you walk up to the window. There is a bench to sit on and wait for your order to be filled. There are four picnic tables with umbrellas if you wish to eat outside. The guy behind the window was incredibly five-star friendly and efficient. I had my food in maybe four minutes tops!I ordered the Chopped Pork sandwich, fries, slaw, and a fountain drink. I was asked if I want BBQ or mustard-based sauce and I went with mustard. It came to $10 and was packaged just fine.I decided to eat at a picnic table and had no problem finding some shade. The crinkle cut fries were a very large portion and hot and crispy and damn fine. The Cole slaw was a little tangy and tasted great.Now for the sandwich which should be the star of the show. Not so much! It was a very skimpy portion of pork. I could get more pork in my sandwich just about anywhere. What was there was tasty, and the sauce was good, but I was disappointed.I was supplied with napkins, but I really really needed one of those wet wipes. They should fix that.As I prepared to leave, I discovered there was no trash can. What the hell! So, I took my trash and my sticky hands to my car. As I drove home with my trash next to me and my hands stuck to the steering wheel, I contemplated this review. The best I can do is an overall three stars.There are a plethora of BBQ joints in Central Florida and it's easy to do better than this!

Friendly folks with very good carry out ribs made our Saturday return trip a success from Bok Tower. The sides of collards, limas and hush puppies were delicious. The wait was short and the packed the go order up nice.

I really wanted this to be good. Hole in the wall places usually are. My two coworkers and I gave it a shot at lunch, unfortunately we were all very disappointed. Wings were bland, no flavor or seasoning, luckily she had some ranch. The Mac and cheese was like mush, didn't taste like cheese, kind of just bland unsalted buttered noodles. Greens seemed to be cooked in water, no flavor or seasonings. Maybe it was an off day, I read the other reviews and it sounded promising but I don't think I'm going to try it again. There was no soul in the soul food. Service was fairly quick which was nice though.

Passed this place for weeks as it looked closed. Today they were open so the wife and I decided to give them a try. First off all seating is outdoors so we decided to get it to go. Wife ordered fried tilapia with collards, okra and tomatoes with corn bread. I ordered a chopped pork sandwich, sausage sandwich and coleslaw. Wife's tilapia was fried to perfection and she raved about the collards and okra. My pork sandwich which I had ordered with no sauce was dry without much smoke flavor but the sausage was fantastic with a crisp skin, coarse ground meat and good flavor. Coleslaw was one of the better I had in Lake Wales. Definitely will be returning but will call my order in as sitting in the heat waiting wasn't much fun.

We went when this location first opened. We are familiar with the one in Mulberry so we wanted to try it. It was not so good. Tonight is the third time I've gone now and all I can say is that they got their opening jitters worked out. This place is THE BEST BBQ in town. Hands down. Awesome sides. Nice and hot. Southern flavor like you want it to be. I'm typically not a fan of a mustard based sauce but my-oh-my they have got this one down. My fav place now.

We live just down the road from Carter's and finally tried it this evening. Ever single dish we got was delicious. It's an amazing deal, and the service was fantastic. We can't wait to come here again!! Give it a try - you will NOT be disappointed.

I ordered the meatloaf and yellow rice. It was pretty good. The baby lima beans were good, as was the corn. The green beans and collard greens tasted like they were out of the can, not much flavor. A few slices of bacon in each would add so much flavor, and customers would love them. The cornbread was ok. The hushpuppies were hard, like they were old. Had to heat everything up in the microwave. The squash was ok. I'm used to it having eggs scrambled into it. There was absolutely no salt added to the food, which is ok. I can add my own. I ordered cabbage and cornbread, but I got green beans instead. Grubhub removed it from my order and I got a refund. It's trial and error at this place. Some items are good, others, not so much.

Reviews had me curious, drove over to check it out, food wasnt appealing i wanted good old soul food but i got craft mac n cheese and some Walmart rotisserie. The lemonade was good though. In all actuality the food was decent i wont lie but I wish they put more soul into it

Wow!!! The slogan does not lie. Carters BBQ is just plain good. Great fast friendly service. Greens were dynamite, chopped pork with mustard sauce was divine, washed it all down with a cold sweet tea.I'll be back!

Super salty inedible potatoes and baked beans. Sausage was great. Pulled pork just ok. Portions were small. Far below average IMHO.
