Matt C. "I was looking for a new Thai place to frequent after rocky experience at nearby Napasorn. I went to Mai Thai for the first time on a cold day in January around lunchtime. Lunch specials are between $10 and $14 and come with a ginger dressing salad or a spring roll. I ordered a Tom Yum Soup to start, and the Thai Fried Rice lunch combo. The soup was not as hot as I wanted on a cold day, but the shrimp had no tails to contend with (which is a plus for me). The fried rice was excellent, especially with a side of fish sauce. My buddy liked his Pad Thai, which I will have to try next time."

Lowella G. "Small, fairly new Thai spot minutes away from Orlando international airport. It's located in the Gateway Village plaza where Agave Azul and Bonefish Grill is. It's really small and the front door looks like it's to the boba place right next door. So if you're not paying attention, you may go to the wrong place. The space is open and really clean. We ordered the Thai wings which was really delicious. Lightly battered and perfectly fried to a crisp. We also got a side of fried tofu with sweet chilly sauce. We also ordered a shrimp dish with some vegetables tossed in a mild / slightly spicy sauce. Our waitress brought the chicken version to us by mistake but insisted we keep it as they prepared the correct shrimp one that we ordered at no additional charge. Both dishes were tasty by the way. Our waitress was really nice and it's family owned. I think her husband was the cook. I'm not sure.. I just assumed. But you have to check it out if you're in the area. The service was great and the food is hot and fresh."

I was craving Thai food and also wanted to find something to feed my very picky 12 year old son.I ordered summer rolls, edamame, rice, and the special Pra Ram dish (Steamed chicken, Homemade peanut sauce, Eggplant, Carrot, napa cabbage, Broccoli served with white rice). Everything arrived steaming hot and was delicious... and of course, there were leftovers. They tasted just as good the next day even thought we ate them cold as we didn't have a microwave in our hotel room.I would definitely recommend this biz even if you are just looking for take-out / delivery."

Raegan L. "Oh my goodness, what a lovely Thai/ Sushi spot! Truly a little gem in Lakeland, in my opinion. All of the sushi rolls I tried were fantastic, especially the St. Pete, which was a mayo type roll and ooooh yes just fantastic, that is all. I got a yellow curry dish, and to be honest it wasn't my favorite. I felt it was lacking a lot of flavor... but also I just don't think my pallet was as compatible with that particular dish, rather than reflecting that it was poor quality food. My friend got one of the pad Thai/ rice noodle dishes and that was really yummy, so the food is obviously good, I think I just picked the wrong dish for my preferences. Lastly, the dessert was wonderful! Fried donuts with a condensed milk sauce, and though it may not sound like much it was just divine and I wish we had gotten more donuts! (though it's probably a good thing we didn't, haha) Our waiter was an absolute hoot, the sweetest and most hilarious guy, I feel maybe he was the owner or manager or some higher up, but he made our visit all the better. Such a charismatic place that will become one of my regular spots!"

We were greeted by a friendly staff member who found us a seat and got us drinks. A different server who was equally nice took our food order and was especially attentive to my wife's food allergies. All of our food was incredibly fresh. The main reason I am here to give a review is to say.. Your staff was amazing last night. We were seated next to two men whom are physicians ( Their scrubs were embroidered with their names on them) whom were incredibly disrespectful. Their level of disrespect was so unwarranted. Andi P. "5 Stars for truly delightful seafood-forward Thai food with all the aesthetics and plenty of spice!Ok, so to start please know that this spot is cute. Like, she's real cute. Get your camera phone ready because you're going to want to take photos of the restaurant, you inside the restaurant, and the beautifully plated dishes. The server came up and explained that Talay means sea in Thai and they're specialty is seafood. The menu featured the classics (which you can make vegetarian by choosing tofu or veggies instead of meat or seafood), but it also has some really special dishes that I hadn't seen before. Here were my faves:- Por Pia Tod: Crispy vegetable spring rolls, sweet Thai chili sauce. This dish came with 4 spring rolls and we enjoyed the sauce (which was mild).- Goong Lui Suan: Thai-style shrimp summer rolls, Thai basil, lettuce, julienne carrots, bean sprouts, cilantro, creamy chili-lime sauce. WOW- The herbs really shone here. The chili-lime sauce was pretttty spicy, so I opted to eat it without a sauce. If you prefer things mild, I would ask for this dish with peanut sauce.- Keaw Wan Roti: Pan-fried roti bread, green curry dipping sauce. This sauce was the star of the show. It had us all wanting to dip everything we got in it! (Spicy)- Gai Satay: Thai chicken skewers, curry powder, cucumber salad, peanut sauce. This chicken satay was light years above any satay I've had in Orlando. It was perfectly grilled and the peanut sauce was clearly homemade. A big winner.- Salmon Chae Nam Pla (Raw section): Sliced salmon, salmon roe, mint, cilantro chili-lime dressing. This was delicious, but WOO-EEE, it was spicy. Definitely spicier than a medium, if that's your limit. Loved the mint with the fish and dressing.- Pa Nang Scallops: Seared scallops in Pa Nang curry, kaffir lime, Thai chili, coconut milk. This was a STAR. It's again, more hot than medium in spice level, but the scallops were big and succulent and I could've bathed in the curry sauce. - Pad See Ew: Flat rice noodles, egg, Chinese broccoli, Talay's signature wok sauce. My husband got this with tofu and it was delicious. You could pick the spice level on the Classic section of the menu, but know that medium is much spicier than the mediums you get at other local Thai restaurants. I would err on the safe side with regards to your spice tolerance.Note: The bathrooms are special... I don't want to give away why, but just know that it's a cool experience walking up to them. Finally, they didn't have a liquor license yet when we dined there, so we stuck with sparkling water. If you are open to N/A, they had some great-looking mocktails."

You have the option with different spice levels but since I had ordered lunch for my friend and I, I went with mild. The food here is so yummy, fresh, decently priced and perfectly portioned. The chicken pad kapraw was also super flavorful and savory, I could eat that all day. I also ordered the honeydew boba tea with the tapioca pearls, which were made fresh and had a 15 minute wait. The honeydew was a bit too sweet for me but the tapioca was really delicious and authentic. I did not mind the wait, because the tapioca was so great and if you give me boba before my meal I will chug it before the food even arrives, this was delivered as we were getting ready to sign the check, perfect timing to-go.Glad we finally tried this place, definitely hoping to come back soon!"

But they were soo nice and did not rush us at all. Mey, our server was very friendly and talked us through some of the dishes. We ordered the Chicken Satay and Fried Wonton apps. It was 50% off one appetizer with the purchase of one entrée. And there was no limit to that combo. The chicken satay was great - 8/10. It came with peanut sauce and sweet fresh cucumbers. The Fried Wonton were a 10/10. Came with sweet n sour sauce, it was the right balance of crispy and soft. Definitely recommend! We had the Tom Kha Gai (soup) - creamy coconut and chicken soup. 9/10. A good amount of chicken and mushrooms and the taste was great. We got the Pad See Ewe with Beef. 7/10. Pretty good but it was a little dry, and the flavor was lacking just a tiny bit. Here are the bonus points.EVERYONE WAS SO NICE! Vy had her american pop, K-pop, J-Pop playlist that set a super chill vibe (New Jeans, XG, Sabrina Carpenter included). Liz was serving a giant group and graciously offered to take a pic of them, even when it was past closing time. Then when we were leaving, our rental car had a dead battery. So we asked if any of them could jump our car. Ming, the owner grabbed his jumper cables, and then Liz pulled her car up next to ours, and they jumped our car. And Ming, Vy, and Liz all stayed out there and talked to us until we left. So the food was a 4.5, but the staff was a 6 - hence the final score of 5 stars! We'll be back next time we're in Orlando!"

Peter G. "Yep, this is another one of those Chinese takeout joints that are a dime a dozen throughout town. They follow most of the same menu and combos as other Chinese takeout restaurants. But, that's not a bad thing!I was in the area near Asian Star the other night, and I had a craving for Chinese. Not fancy Chinese, just good old fashion Chinese takeout. They're located near the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market on Chickasaw. Their decor is pretty much the same as any other Chinese takeout place, but, again, that's not a bad thing!Asian Star Restaurant has an interesting approach to handling the COVID situation we find ourselves in. When you walk in, you are confined to a small, boarded up area just inside the entrance with a speaker to allow you to communicate with the staff. While I miss the days of chilling at a table while waiting for my table, I'm more than happy to see places like this take super precautionary measures for the safety of customers and staff. I placed my order for General Tso's Chicken and fried rice and was told it would take about 10 minutes. They were exactly right. After 10 minutes, they came outside to tell me that my order was ready. The staff was attentive and did a great job of handling phone orders and in person orders at the same time.My dinner was nice. With places like this, I usually make it halfway through before I tap out, and this is no different. They hook you up with plenty of food at a decent price, and I found myself with a nice dish of leftovers for the following day. The General Tso's chicken was delicious and so was the fried rice. It all came to a very reasonable price that included a great eggroll.I don't frequent this area of town that often, but when I do, I plan on sampling some of their Thai dishes which is a nice addition to the usual Orlando Chinese takeout restaurants. If your find yourself in the area, Asian Star is a solid bang for your buck. Sure, it's nothing fancy, but even non-fancy Chinese food is still pretty damn good."

It is a comfortable space in a shopping center on 192 close to Celebration. The plaza also contains a New Balance outlet if you are looking for a landmark. The restaurant has a lot of wood and a laid back vibe perfect for a late night bite or a meal with families. I love the repurposed benches that are rich shiny wood. This is down the street from the Gaylord so I think Tsunami Sushi gets some adventurous hotel guests.Service. Ok how often does a server remember you on the second visit? She said welcome back. I had a wonderful meal the first time, so points for facial recognition. Both times service was well paced by friendly staff and the food came out of the kitchen promptly. I think the servers here are seasoned professionals so points to management for investing in superior employees.Food. The first time I had beer and a pad wood sen, a noodle dish and a sushi roll. The sushi was fresh and a good size for the price. The noodle dish I picked was sweet and filled with chicken. I had to take some home for lunch the next day.Second visit I had the seaweed salad, I chose fried pork dumplings, and the basil fried rice. A couple things, the dumplings were not greasy at all and had a good flavor with a nice dipping sauce. I would also like to try these steamed. Next on the Basil fried rice she asked me the spice level from 0-5. Now I know I prefer less heat but was feeling adventurous and chose 1 and pork for the protein. It came out with some zing. I was pretty full from the salad and dumplings but I enjoyed it. I had two more small meals If that gives you an idea on the size of the basil fried rice entree. The seaweed alas also had a very slight kick. I would order any of my choices again but they have such a tempting and extensive menu, it is sometimes hard to decide. This is a great restaurant and obviously I am willing to drive the 15 minutes from my home to try some more delicious food selections.
