It is a bit dry.The macaroni is delicious despite it being served broken up. I also tried the beef patty and it was perfection!Every time I have called the phone it has been answered promptly and the service is fast. I found the staff to be polite as I was polite to them, however I dis witness them shame a few people who were rude.I would recommend this place and plan on visiting again."

Traveler F. "This is the home of 2010 Duck Curry Competition Winner!Okay let's check 'em out. Look carefully in this strip plaza along Old Winter Garden Rd. at Hiawassee Rd.or you may pass it by. There are no bright visible signs on the building's structure, just the neon "Open" sign and a painted sign in the window. Regardless, the space is rows of tables and chairs with a counter at the end. Decor...move on.On this Saturday night, at about 8pm they were almost out of everything. There was no roti, no dhal puri, and the fried rice would have taken 45 mins to cook. Must be yummy. Ok, whats left? Curry duck and rice. Okay one order please. The very straight faced, non interactive, no words, just head and hand gestures counter person disappeared through a door. I could hear the curry being reheated in a cooking vessel. He came back out 10 mins later with a to go bag and two containers. While I was waiting, I glanced around at the couple of tables with men sitting around with numerous beer bottles on the tables. What is it with West Indian men hanging out in restaurants and guzzling dozens and dozens of beer? I also peered in the beer display cooler and to my surprise for a place that boast "We serve beer and wine" on their flyer, there were no West Indian beers and one bottle of White Zinfandel. Maybe they stored them somewhere else? As I looked around the tables there were Heineken and Bud Light. I did not want to ask just in case the counter person chased me with a cutlass. The serving portion was very generous. There was ample rice, packed separately. The duck meat was tender fall off the bone goodness. Skin was definitely browned before simmering in the curry sauce. The sauce's consistency was very balanced not too watery but not too thick. However, the flavor profile was lacking. Maybe I was expecting for a "Duck Curry Competition Winner" that there would have been a distinctive taste or something special. Nada, Nothing, Flat. It was extremely mild and lacked the punch a West Indian curry should carry. There was an underlining heat that was all pepper and no spice. Heat level was quite distracting from the curry and duck flavors. Almost masking the flavor profiles. If this is the gold standard of Duck Curry in Orlando, then this upcoming 6th Annual Central Florida Official Duck Curry Competition is wide open for the taking."

Yani O. "First of all, I just moved here from the Brooklyn / Flatbush area where the soul of Jamacia resides. I've been on the hunt for an authentic Jamaican restaurant and this one was recommended by a friend. Little did I know my taste buds would be BLOWN AWAY! :P I ordered Oxtail with rice + peas, a side salad with french dressing, and beet carrot juice. Sweet Baby Jesus that oxtail was BUSSIN! The oxtail pieces were juicy and cooked to perfection. There was an abundance of sauce, exactly the right amount to soak the rice in with each bite. I haven't had oxtail like this in years and I couldn't have been happier. It was so good I had to stop myself from eating everything in one sitting simply so I can have it again later in the day haha. Definitely recommend trying this place out, especially for their oxtail."

Breakfast is even offered into the afternoon. I came at 1:30pm and there was still ackee, liver, and hominy available. I had stew peas with white rice for lunch (Wednesday special) and it was the best I've had in a long time (don't tell my mother lol). Also, the restaurant is clean, well kept, and offers entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights, which gives it an added flare. It's a nice size establishment as well. Despite other reviews, the workers and owners are absolutely nice and personable. Love Reggae Riddims!"

Most have a golden crust (imagine that) which is a container for various fillings. 5 Stars for the patties. They also have a bunch of sides (what I tried was 2-3 stars) and at times, their LTOs (Limited Time Offerings) can be good. We went when they had the vegan meat patties and they were out of them. I wish they had all the time. They have some veggie patties but I tried a bite and wasn't a fan. Their meat Patties are good too though. My visits here may be few and far between, especially with Island Thyme within walking distance to my home, but it's a solid place to stop for a snack if you're visiting Home Depot, Sleep Number, Michaels, or something else in the most inconvenient plaza in Waterford.I think they were on Undercover Boss one time, and they also have their products in the frozen food section of grocery stores, In fact, I just scored their Beyond Meat patties at Publix so now I may never have to endure the logistical nightmare of going here."

We also had some fresh passion fruit juice which was a good added touch. Service 5/5- Our server was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. She also told us they have live music on the weekends so I will definitely be back to check it out. Ambiance 5/5- It is more of a casual environment but a great place to go on a date or just hang out with your friends. Jamaican and Soul Restaurant

★★★☆☆ 3.2 (13)

Shannon H. "I'll start with the positives. The food, overall, was exactly what I thought it would be-true flavors of Jamaica! Or at least, how I imagine Jamaican food would taste. Everything was hot and fresh and had spices that aren't typically used in American cooking. My favorite item was the curry chicken. It fell off the bone, was spicy but not too spicy. The rice and peas on the side paired perfectly with it! The best positive is that you get a ton of food for a "small" plate and price. I've uploaded pictures of my food and bill-check it out! Also, a gentleman called me from the restaurant to let me know they were out of the collard greens that I ordered and offered to give me another side, instead. I chose the slaw. It was nice of them to give me a heads up! We also ordered 5 wings, teriyaki, and those were huge and delicious! Here are the negatives. First, I placed my order at 5:02 using the Grubhub website and as you might see from my screenshot, by 7:09 the food wasn't delivered. Grubhub said it would be delivered between 6:40 and 6:50, so I already knew it was going to be at least an hour and a half, so they weren't terribly late. When the delivery driver arrived, he was extremely kind and apologetic for being late. He explained that the restaurant got my order wrong and that he had them re-make everything.Next, the order I received still wasn't correct. Although they were kind enough to call me about the collards and exchange them for the slaw, I still didn't receive the dumplings and instead, I got yams. Last thing might be more of a preference. The yams were a bit too sweet for my liking, but that might be the traditional way Jamaicans cook them, I don't know. The cole slaw was hot and I prefer it cold and on the side, not on top of the hot food. The french fries were drowning in grease so I tried a few but ultimately didn't eat them. The jerk chicken was a bit dry but the flavor was spot-on! I had high hopes for the beef patties but they, too, were dry.Overall, my favorite was the curry chicken and the rice and peas. I'll probably order the jerk chicken again but ask for extra sauce. Next time, I'll skip Grubhub and just go to the restaurant, myself. It would be quicker and my order would probably be correct."

They have a variety of Jamaican fare from jerky patties, jerk chicken, ribs, plantains, macaroni and cheese, and much more! He started with a sweet tea, a spicy jerk patty, curry chicken with rice, plantains, macaroni and cheese, and a side of jerk sauce. The meal was a good size and came with a plastic lid in case you have leftovers. The curry chicken was tender, flavorful, and delicious. The jerk patty was warm, crispy outside, and had just the right amount of heat. The jerk sauce had good flavor and wasn't too spicy. My husband likes his jerk sauce hot, so he asked if they had one that is hot and they made him a hot sauce that really packed a punch! Great service!Rating from F to A+++, we give it an A++."

There is absolutely nothing fancy about it. However, the staff us warm and friendly and the food is pretty good. Especially when you consider that they ha r lunch specials at about five dollars ($4.99 to be exact). Oh, I think it also bears mentioning that the lunch special came with a can of soda or a bottle of water.I opted for their jerk chicken lunch special and also treated myself to a Jamaican beef patty. They put my food in a to-go container (again, nothing fancy about this place), rang me up and I grabbed a table. The jerk chicken was definitely good and the price was even better. The entree was delicious, the only downside was the amount of tiny bones that were in the meat. The Mac and cheese looked like it had been sitting out for a while but it was hot and pretty tasty. They both came with cabbage which was delicious and fried bread thing which I didn't like- it was hard and greasy and I would have preferred a plantain or something. Both main dishes were really good and the portion is generous. I was a little skeptical because it was totally dead at 7 pm on a Friday but the food did not disappoint! The gentleman that brought out the food was very nice and opened up the carryout boxes and showed me the food before he bagged it. First class service! I am docking a star because there was no one at the front to greet and when she did come out she pretty much rang me up and went right to the back again with few words spoken. I think a little more customer service would go a long a way and help the business. Who knows how many customers may walk in, don't see anyone and walk back out. Especially with a cuisine like Jamaican which is probably not as popular in the Winter Garden area. Long story short-- go try it! Support the small business. Plus- Vegetarian meat options (soy-based)!I was getting together with some friends and we ordered from Negril. Luckily, a couple of my friends are Jamaican and they helped steer me to some new faves!Food I'd highly recommend:- Brown stew chicken meal with rice and peas, fried plantain, and stewed cabbage. This dish is rich and has the potential for leftovers if you're not starving. For the uninitiated, Jamaican rice and peas consist of red kidney beans and rice that's cooked in broth, coconut milk, and tons of aromatic spices. This isn't your white rice and green peas type of situation. I could have eaten this rice on its own, but add in the brown stew sauce and WOW. Also, I love the cabbage side because it adds a vinegary note that offsets the rich stew. Note: The chicken is cut up and includes bones. - Coco bread: This is a Jamaican style bun baked with coconut milk. It's especially good when paired with a patty in the middle (yes, the coco bread around the patty! Carb heaven!).- Festival: Jamaican festival is a sweet fried dough made with cornmeal, flour, sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and milk aka a dumpling. Yes this is as good as it sounds- especially for soaking up brown stew gravy!I was BLOWN away to see an entire veggie section of the menu (for online ordering) featuring soya veggie chunks (a soy based option with the consistency of chicken). That's a HUGE deal for those of us with vegetarians in the family. Overall, delicious Jamaican food that I'll definitely order again!"
