Amura

Now that Amura is no longer downtown, we don't visit them as much as we did before. That said, we've been to the Sand Lake location and now we've been to this one. The thing that sets them apart is the quality of the food and the service. The prices are a bit high, but we always have a great meal. Their teams are well trained and I find myself getting things as I'm asking for them... which is pleasant.Watch out for parking around this location as there is a lot of construction, but that's not Amura's fault. We had a great meal, as expected.

A big big room at the back end of a posh-looking "entertainment district". Nothing to give you a clue it's a Sushi bar. Western staff, and the whole place has a kind of "cold" feel. Almost like a sports bar with not that many TV's. Not many folks in there for a Saturday night at dinner time.The waitress was as cold as the decor.Had a "Japanese Whiskey Sour", which was a pleasant quaff.Started with a bowl of Miso Soup which was "Miso Soup". Basic and welcome.The Sushi was actually quite fine. Decent cuts and it was fresh. Had a large roll with lobster tempura in it. Tasty. Nothing to knock me out, but it hit the spot.Miss Frigid Waitress was ok in her service, if not exactly cordial. Wasn't looking or expecting for a chummy situation, but I'd rather not be served by someone who acted like we were a nuisance in her life.(Should also say-we were sober and did not say/do anything to provoke poor service)A decent feed, but not prime time material. The AYCE sushi bars here in Chicago are just as good at a significantly lower pricetag.

I've been dining at Amura for years, and it's always been a favorite. The food is consistently fresh, and the quality of the fish never disappoints. The staff is attentive and kind, ensuring great service every time. However, I've noticed that the ambiance has changed over the years--it doesn't feel as nice as it once did. While it's still a great spot for sushi lovers, a little refresh to the decor could bring back that classy vibe it used to have.

Amura is consistently top-tier. I cannot get enough of their amazing sushi and friendly staff! I split this massive sushi boat with 3 people and we still had leftovers! Their hot dishes are also so good!

My first time eating here, ordered delivery. It was my first sushi since being in Fl. I ordered sushi and the spicy seafood noodle soup. The delivery was as promised and the handoff impeccable! I was working during tax season so a detail like that is important. I knew I had too much for lunch, that it would be two meals, so I ate the Volcano Roll first. I was amazed by the freshness and flavor of the dish. Everything about it delighted my palate and had me go back until there was no more. While I was saving the soup for the next day, I did give it a taste in anticipation of a real treat. Unfortunately it was a bit too fishy for me. I think waiting to eat it the next day was not the best thing. I would not do that again. Sorry that I don't have the pictures which seems to have left my phone when I finally stopped to finish it.

This location is a staple within the community and while I rarely eat here now due to not being in the area often, it never disappoints. The food is always flavorful and they serve a large variety of fresh sushi which is delicious. The service is also fast and friendly, I definitely recommend.

I read the reviews before coming in, but I was so optimistic I thought my experience would've been better. This place needs to change some things if they want to become better and have more customers. We went on a Saturday night and it was basically empty. The 3 hostess were all on their phone when we came in which should've been by sign to try another restaurant nearby. Also, every employee was wearing their regular clothes, I didn't see any sort of uniform in place which shocked me, I've never seen that before! The server was a little on the rude side. The place is expensive so you'd think you're getting what you pay for, but unfortunately it's not the case. The food was OK. The sushi was terrible and not authentic at all. I would be back in the future, hopefully someone picks the place up.

I've seen several videos come across my social media talking about a restaurant in Dr Phillips called Akasaka sushi. I was super excited to try it out until I got there and realized it's Amura sushi and they just added another name to this same restaurant. A bit odd that they go by both names for the same restaurant. Perhaps trying to throw people off, but this establishment has a C rating with the health inspector. I won't step foot in there until this is fixed.

I loved this place when we first moved here in 2016. Would go quite often. Bring my family. Buy gift cards for the holidays for my children. Year after year we noticed the ambiance devolving. Seemed darker dirty floor sticky booths old. They aren't putting anything back into the restaurant. The staff even had a large turnover. Felt rushed at lunch like the waitress wanted to run out if there. Very disappointed because I loved the sushi. The location is great. Then I started looking into the health reports only to see many violations including roaches live. I am sorry to say unless it is closed and overhauled I will never go back. This is sad because in the beginning I lived this place. Also great it was close to home. Revamp your restaurant to accommodate the hefty prices and I would come back.

This place left us with such a total distaste. The sushi was GREAT but the service was the worst I have ever experienced. We will never go back. The hostess was a mess and the waitresses would walk by like you didn't exist. On the other hand the bartender was super attentive.
