My husband and I treated ourselves to a fun little date day and finally got to check out AJ Chocolate House on Park Ave. We had lunch nearby and wanted something sweet to cap it off. The weather was beautiful -- perfect for sitting outside on the patio and I loved how they had little throw blankets on each chair since it was a little chilly. We perused the glass cases of chocolates, cakes, gelato and more. It was a little unclear where/how were were supposed to order or whether we were meant to sit first and order with a server. We ended up ordering at the counter and they gave us a number. We sat at a table and waited for our treats to come out. We ordered their signature Norwegian hot chocolate to share (a layered hot chocolate with dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate topped with whipped cream). FYI this is real hot chocolate - not a traditional hot chocolate beverage but instead more like a mousse. It was super rich, creamy, and delicious! I definitely recommend sharing this. We each also got a cake slice. I went with the meringue crumble cake which was soooo good and unlike any cake I've ever had. I'm not a big frosting girl which this cake did not have and I'd say it's more similar to a pie in texture. My husband went with the roasted almond cheesecake which he really enjoyed. It was very pricey overall for these decadent desserts, but at least we had enough for leftovers for later that evening which was nice.

I came on a Tuesday night with a bunch of friends and found out it was Ladies Night. They had someone playing a keyboard and signing, and all ladies got a percentage off their bill, so that was a fun little surprise. I ordered the wine and chocolate flight. You got to choose one glass of wine and three of any of the chocolates in the case (which was quite hard because they all looked delicious and there were so many to choose from.) I ordered all dark chocolate: chocolate brownie filling, ghost pepper chili, and marzipan. They were all delicious! The brownie didn't taste much like a brownie, more just thick straight chocolate, so that was my least favorite. The marzipan was awesome. The chili was my favorite, with a subtle hint of spice on the back end. The inside is quite small but nicely decorated and has a romantic feel to it. There is a server that brings your orders to you but you can't actually order with them which is a bit weird; you have to order at the counter. Each individual chocolate is $3.

I'm a sucker for dark chocolate so have been eyeing this place for a while. When finally reading their menu at the location, to my pleasant surprise, they had an European-style "real hot chocolate" drink that one cannot easily find in the US. I was also lucky to be craving dark chocolate at that moment and for the weather outside (around 50 F) to be conducive to a cup of such delicious, thick, and warm chocolate indulgence. It was rich. It was chocolaty. As much as I enjoyed it, I was unable to finish it -- at the end, it felt like I was eating fondue without the items to be dunked in chocolate. But I don't regret having ordered it at all. :)

The new kid on the block in Park Ave! I remember when this location was Frappe Start. That only lasted a few minutes...I think it's a nice addition to Park Ave to have an upscale chocolate shop. They're in competition with PetersBrook, but they have a larger variety, wine, hot chocolate and specialty desserts. The hot chocolate was what we wanted today. It was amazing! I got the dark chocolate and Michelle got the Norwegian. It's Like sipping on a melted chocolate bar! It was very delicious though! We needed the spoon to fully enjoy! The Norwegian was extremely rich and thick! My dark chocolate was thinner and sipped more like a traditional hot cocoa.I can definitely see coming back to try some of the chocolates and speciality desserts.

This is not my first visit to AJ Chocolate House. They are a popular place at the end of Park Ave in Winter Park. While I want to love this place, because who doesn't love chocolate. There always seems to be a hiccup with service. Today I ordered three slices of cake and ask for a carafe of water. The three slices showed up at the table. The wait staff said they would return with the water. Not sure if it ever appeared. Definitely didn't while we enjoyed our cake slices. My husband had the Blueberry Marzipan, my daughter had the lemon cheesecake and I had the pistachio marcapone. Hubby raved about his slice. My daughter said hers was pretty good. Mine on the other hand, the top which was the pistachio part was gelatinous. The cake it self we all agreed really didn't have a flavor punch. Though I can't fault the crust which a lot of people get wrong. There is plenty of seating and the place is relatively quiet enough for a conversation. I'm not sure after the third time if I'll return or not.

AJ Chocolate house is in the old Diamond Center location on the corner of Park and Fairbanks. The ambiance is a little strange but comfortable. It has a large glass counter display with chocolates in it that might be a hold over from the Diamond center days with comfy seats and tables around the outside. It is a little confusing when you walk in. You have 2 options when you walk in. To go over to the far right back corner to order food and drinks. Or go to the glass count we're and pick out chocolates. The chocolate is very good and a great place to go for a special occasion.

Okay but can we talk about the SNAP on every single perfectly tempered chocolate?! I got the surprise me option through delivery and requested all dark chocolate. It was my first time trying their chocolate and I am hooked. Not overly sweet and the flavors I tried were balanced. My favorite included a pistachio one, coconut one, and the caramel! I look forward to trying more. I can't really talk about the service or ambiance since I didn't go in for my order.

I like the concept of this place where you can catch up with friends/family over some tea, desserts, and croissant sandwiches! In my opinion, it's the most worth your money to select the Tea Tower and share with 3-4 people. It comes with your choice of "2 croissant sandwiches cut into smaller pieces, waffle bites with chocolate and whipped cream, 3 dessert shooters, 3 mini tarts, 3 chocolates, served on a 3 tier tower with a teapot of tea to share." We got the salmon croissant and cheese/pesto croissant sandwiches. They switch out which dessert shooters and teas they have, so it may be different every time! We got the chocolate mousse, pistachio, and chocolate maraschino cherry dessert shooters. For our tea, we got the apricot peach and we felt like it was so much food and drinks for the 3 of us! I liked that we also got to choose 1 chocolate each since that's the main attraction at this place! The service was helpful and friendly. The restaurant itself was nice, but the chairs were so short for the tables, so we felt like we were eating like T-rexes. Other than that, it was a great experience!
