Overall: recommend this location as a date spot and/or small group hangout-spot Good quality fish and boozy house cocktails were $6ish each. The octopus was a bit rubbery and I personally could have done without it. Also to note, the meal came with house cabbage salad (super simple cabbage + a miso dressing) and a small bowl of miso soup. The service was friendly but can become pretty slow (30min to get the check and another 20ish to get the card back) when it gets busyParticular highlight: The shishitou kushiyaki/skewer was delicious--seasoned great with good texture (not just mushy)Pros:- Pretty easy parking for Brookline, there's street parking along the train tracks (pic below)- Good value when considering cost vs portion + quality, including the salad + miso soupCons: - Can get really crowded and loud, sensory warning- Service can be slow when it's super crowded- Drinks other than house cocktails are a bit overpriced in my opinion (but it *is* Brookline...)- some menu items (octopus and fried oyster) are underwhelming due to texture- Miso soup was pretty watered down

Unbelievably overhyped and disappointing place with poor quality.I appreciate the nice service and convenient location, but the food was a huge miss:1) chicken karage: the only dish that met my expectations of the night. Tender inside but some pieces have an over cooked and chewy /not crispy outside2) beef tongue: so chewy and over cooked that my jaw was sore afterwards3) chicken skin skewer: absurdly over fried flavorless and bitter chicken skin, ridiculous far from what I had at other Japanese restaurants;4) sushi: bad, bad, bad!!!!! Uni was extremely fishy, fish was not fresh, sushi rice was not rice, and even the presentation was terrible - the fish was so unevenly placed as pictured I felt like a fool after spending almost a hundred bucks here for such poor food. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else for a good izakaya- not here!!

Very good Japanese food to eat there or to go. Stopped by on a Tuesday night after a long flight to get food to go. Service was friendly and quick, I was able to sit at the small bar and look over the menu before I ordered. I got the chicken katzu appetizer, spring rolls, small miso, and an Osaka sushi roll. Katzu and spring roles were freshly made, seemed pretty standard with the flavor so I think they get them pre-made but not sure.Osaka roll had a slightly off smell, not really fishy but almost fermented, so may have been the lobster roe or something. Shrimp tempura inside was fine, so overall a decent roll. Didn't eat the miso right away so that made for a nice snack the next day. Was standard miso with tofu squares, some seaweed and broth. Again a pretty standard flavor so I don't think it was made from scratch but still tasty. Folks were enjoying the outside deck as it was nice weather and there was a good amount of folks dining inside, along with steady traffic for to go. Order was ready within the 10 minutes they said, order was perfectly correct. There is a good ice cream place across the street so that is an open for dessert. They didn't have cranberry juice to go so went for a ginger ale which was $3 for a can, but the conveince store was closed. Overall a good choice with a good atmosphere and a solid variety of options

Was nervous about this spot due to the mixed reviews, but we ended up loving it. If you're looking for a place to hang with friends and to snack while drinking, this is the place. We ordered the fried oysters, fried soft shell crab, hamachi collar, pork belly buns, some sushi, skewers, and fried matcha icecream. All of the food was honestly pretty good and came out quickly. I'd skip the skewers next time though. All reasonably priced. They have $7 cocktails which is hard to find in Boston. Margaritas and mai tais were pretty goodService was very quick and they checked on us a lot. Please try this spot

Really fresh sushi at an affordable price!!! The inside of the restaurant has a cute ambiance and decor; the outside is a little confusing to me because they still have Christmas lights and decorations up (as of mid February). Although I am pretty festive, this feels like a lazy move. Service felt a little rushed; stopped by every minute to ask for our order, and delivered the bill before we had even decided if we wanted more drinks or dessert. However they did treat us to an appetizer.I tried the steamed gyoza, spicy tuna roll, and the otoro and wagyu nigiri. The spicy tuna roll was large (and filling) and the nigiri were fresh and unique flavor- the wagyu was my favorite!

Overall: really cute family(?) owned Japanese restaurant that really reminds me of the mom and pops in LA. They have really solid food at a reasonable price!Food: we started off with the takoyaki and I will admit it it's one of the better places for it! The flavors in the ball itself were on point and the octopus is a perfect balance of chewiness but not rubbery! The dynamite was easily the highlight with all the sauce drizzled on top of the scallop. Imagine an Asian version of a clam bake? I will admit it's incredibly heavy but it's well worth it!Ambience/Decor/Service: the service was incredibly quick and polite! The decor wasn't anything spectacular but exactly the homey feel that I miss in LA.

I got a California roll and steamed shrimp shumai were really yummy, but what made them very special was the sauce that they gave me to pair with it it was really outstanding Did takeout but I could see it being really lovely to eat outside here within the enclosed area

Best sushi i've ever had in my entire life. We had the Tokyo roll and the Sashimi and Sushi combo. I've never had such amazing quality fish. Fatty, Flavorful, Refreshing. I don't even write yelp reviews but coming here just once made me just HAVE to give this place 5 stars. Service was super nice and attentive and food came out so quick. The ambiance was quite nice as well! Surprised it isn't busier!!!
