I've been training here for several months now and I really enjoy the atmosphere, fellow students, and our senseis (Tyrone and Tyler). Tikan Ju-Jitsu is a local dojo which holds classes at three locations (Southwest and Maple YMCA, and Lifetime Fitness). I started taken Ju-Jitsu with my stepdaughter, who ended up deciding it wasn't for her but I ended up staying. As an adult doing this for the first time, I can't say that my body was ready to fly through the air, but the sensei has always been very patient in showing things to me multiple times and is wonderful and explaining and demonstrating different moves and how they relate to real life situations and can be expanded upon based on your level.Classes are an hour long, and typically start with 10-15 minutes of stretching and warmup, followed by skill practice. A lot of time is spent reviewing basics, and then breaking into smaller groups based on experience. You learn strikes, kicks, rolls, breakfalls (how to safely fall), locks and breaks, and more. The class is heavily interactive and there isn't a lot of down time. It's great exercise and a lot of fun and If highly recommend giving it a try!
