The Spot : Preparation Canyon Overlook

In my opinion this is the most beautiful place on Earth. It is beautiful lush and magical in the greens and blues of the summer. Lots of beauty and nature and a great trail. We have never seen other people here when we go during a weekday getaway.

Amazing views! My kids and I love to have picnics here and hike the trail. You can see all the way to Nebraska, absolutely beautiful.

This outlook gives you the opportunity to view what is probably one of the most beautiful sights in western Iowa. The Loess Hills are a treasure that simply cannot be found pretty much anywhere else. (Except who would have guessed it, China?) There is an observation deck from which you can start your hike on the ridges of the Loess Hills. There is some great scenery to be had, and some wonderful elevations to experience if you are one to enjoy ruggedness in your hiking. I recommend taking the long way to get here. There are some lovely, winding gravel roads (that are less traveled) that will allow you to experience the beauty that is the Loess Hills by car.
