A stink filled dirty disgusting bar. Homeless people sitting at the bar. I'm not kidding. The smell was horrendous. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse, here comes a big wet stinky dog barking at your feet. A dog running freely in a bar? The bartender ignored me as he chatted up every person in there. He finally came over and apologized for not seeing me. Was I transparent? I was lucky he didn't see me and I didn't order anything from this abortion of a bar. I took an Uber to another establishment. This place is literally filthy. The health department needs to shut them down.

It's a big bar, especially when you walk to the back room. It's a mellow crowd. Bartenders are slower then molasses hence the ratings. Stood in line for almost 10 minutes twice when there were barely any people there. Went there two different nights, both were dead.. maybe 30-40 people between 10-12 at night.

Most crowded straight bars have at least some hostile undertones about them at some point in the evening courtesy of natural selection and male competitive demonstration. It's part of the background noise of mundane forces at work to undermine quality adult entertainment everywhere like bad lighting, corn syrup and YA literature. Then there are also gay bars like The Omaha Mining Company where that hostile background buzz evaporates like someone turned off the fluorescents at the office. Located on Leavenworth in the sweet spot between Douglas County Jail and urban blight, The Omaha Mining Company has been a home to the local gay community, in one form or another, since the late-60s. It was on the fringe and still is. Thankfully, it's a much safer fringe now than it once was because street parking gets tight on the weekends. Use a spotter or carpool because many of the spaces across Leavenworth are reserved for law enforcement. Inside, The Mining Company has a fun, inclusive, working-class dive bar feel. Of course there is the humor one hopes to find at their friendly, all-inclusive, neighborhood: street signs that read as double entendres in their current context: Elevated manhole, 69th Street, Rainbow Boulevard. It's PFLAG-family friendly bar fun for all. If you've never been or just haven't been in awhile, it's worth checking out. My first trip back to The Mining Company since 2013 was inspired by an invitation to a Youth Emergency Services charity event by Drew Dietz, president of Big O! Bears and featuring celebrity guest Mr. North American Bear 2017, A.J. Perdew. The place was packed with people and positive vibes. The staff was hustling and harried, but never rude. The clientele, many sporting harnesses, could not have no been more welcoming. One of the best features of The Omaha Mining Company came about six years ago when a rear storage area was converted into a most impressive dance floor. Encompassing three stories and the width of the building, this beautiful, mirrored space is large enough to work as an entirely separate venue for shows. Knowing people has its privileges. To wit, President Dietz gave me a tour of The Mineshaft, The Omaha Mining Company's basement sanctum. The Mineshaft is not for everyday use. It's a special events/party room just this side of a speakeasy. It resembles nothing so much as a 70s era rumpus room for swingers, perfect for gear night, club meeting, socials or just hanging with the fellas. Besides the bears at the bar were beers on tap: Budweiser, Bud Light, Shock Top, Stella Artois, Stella Artois Cidre, Michelob Ultra, Goose Island IPA and Woodchuck. Pitchers are only $7.75. Bottles of Bud, Bud Light, Brunette Nut Brown and Summit Seasonal are $4. Corona, Modelo, Best Damn Root Beer, Oskar Blues Old Chubb, Heineken and Sam Adams are $4.75. Happy hours are Monday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.Tuesdays and Thursdays free pool, Wednesday's karaoke is from 8 to 12. Second Saturdays are Gear Night and every 4th Saturday is Bear Bar in The Mineshaft.

Have never regretted coming in here. Perfectly chill place where you can get away from the stereotypical bar scene while still being out. Cover charges are always worth it, which is saying a lot because I normally balk at door fees. Here you'll find a barkeep who cares and a small group of regulars on even the slowest of nights where pretense is low and the atmosphere is warm.

For me, this is a nice and relaxing "hole in the wall" place. It's the kind of bar where you can just come, sit at the bar, order your drink and relax for a bit and not have to worry about the pretentiousness you will find at a couple other establishments in the Omaha area. If you are looking for a place that is super full on the weekends with shirtless twinks and stuck up jocks that can't stop looking at their own reflections while they "dance", then this is NOT the place for you. If you want a place where you can just relax and be you...then I say check them out!!

The first time I came here was by myself and on a Lip Sync Battle night. The battle was great!! Performers both experienced and new comers lit the place up. The place had great sound down by the stage. Outside the stage room it was easy to hear the thumping of the music yet it wasn't so loud that you had to shout to talk to people. In addition to shows, they had decently priced drinks that actually tasted good. I find very few places in Omaha have good drinks AND good pricing. Have their cranberry vodka. The cranberry is sweeter and not as acidic in taste like many other places. This crowd was one of the best I've stumbled upon in Omaha. Everyone was very nice and chill. The people here were all open to connecting with no walls to get in the way.

Since the old owner has passed. The new owner has been doing a good job trying to bring the place back. It has been slow but it is improving. Bringing the fun back in it!!

I'd give it 3 1/2 stars if I could. Pretty average hole in the wall dive bar, cheap/strong drinks, unpretentious patrons, pretty slow on weekdays but otherwise good.

Stopped in last weekend the 21st. There was a drag show which really was not my thing. But had a few drinks and went on my way. Came back Saturday. Had a blast chatting with the locals. Listened to music. Was a great place to chill at. The bartender was quite entertaining!!
