The Keeping Room

What an odd experience. The shop is lovely and the restaurant's servingware is truly joyful and tasteful. The place was packed, so we hoped we had found some good food. Instead, we got service with a sneer. We have a suspicion that we were treated poorly because we look different from everybody else there.If that had been the case and their food was good, I wouldn't have left a review. It wasn't. The enchiladas were the better item. They and the rice were dry. The entire plate was flavorless, but edible and filling. It wasn't worth the cost.The French Dip was the most poorly executed example of that sandwich we had ever seen. The beef was simply packaged deli beef and was in no way prepared with any of the seasonings a French Dip should have. The au jus was similarly an unprepared beef broth, which lacked even salt. We're pretty sure the cheese was American-style single slice Swiss because it fully melted. The bread was excellent, but wasted on such a poorly prepared sandwich.At no point did anybody ask how our meal was and we felt like we were rushed out.They have no vegetarian options for those who might care.If you're in town for an art walk or something, skip this place.

This restaurant is a real gem. I am thrilled that my sister recommended we stop here for lunch yesterday. The greeting was warm and friendly from Robyn our server. The soup yesterday was a (sweet potato chowder) with big chunks of perfectly cooked sweet potato surrounded by home grown sweet corn, celery and sausage. It was fantastic. I had the chicken salad sandwich, my wife and very nice salad and my sister had the Thai wrap. All were amazing,. This wonderful spot has incredible desserts as well with very generous portions. The carrot cake and homemade vanilla ice cream was off the charts. Easy street parking make it easy and very much worth driving 50 miles to experience. We will plan on coming through Nebraska City at lunch time so that we can return soon I hope.

I recommend the home made coconut pie and bread pudding. The ambiance is lovely. The chicken salad sandwich on croissant was huge. Not exactly tea sandwich size. When we visited, we thought the service was more proud than actually serving. Not much tea to choose from. But then, maybe it's not a tea place after all.

If you're looking for a great spacious environment that serves up delicious food for lunch, this is it. The building itself is so charming and the food is simple, but very fresh and flavorful. My husband ordered the French dip and I had the crispy chicken sandwich... both so good! The desserts were rich and delectable. I got the bread pudding and my husband the molten chocolate cake. We loved everything!

Yelp reviews led us to downtown Nebraska City and the Keeping Room. It's situated in a charming older building that adds character to the dining experience. The place is well-maintained, offers good service, and serves delicious breakfast and lunch options at reasonable prices. During our visit, we had their apple sangria. We highly recommend it!

Lovely place to get some lunch while in downtown. Great unique offerings. I had lobster Mac & cheese & an Italian salad. Everything was delicious.

I had the tacos they were ok my husband got the special Quiche peach cinnamon roll and fresh fruit it was excellent

Very nice spot to eat lunch in Nebraska City. The outside dining was perfect for us to have our two pups with us. The service was wonderful! I ordered an Asian chicken salad - it was good but lacking on the chicken portion. Good or bad ? It left room for house made bread pudding which was wonderful! A bit pricey for two for lunch .....

I spent my teenage years in Nebraska City, and there was nothing like the Keeping Room there when I was growing up. The food at the Keeping Room is unique in the area, inventive and tasty. I had three lunches there during my visit (I probably would have gone back again if I could have), and each time I was served a great meal. Probably my favorite was a large lavash cracker with grilled cherry tomato halves, mozzarella cheese, basil, and a balsamic vinegar drizzle. It was delicious, beautiful, and fresh, but also satisfying. And their more traditional desserts are super. The bread pudding is especially delicious, if that's your thing... if not, the pies are superb. The service is solid, friendly in a no-nonsense kind of way, and completely efficient. Generous with the tea and coffee as well. Make it a special lunch!
