The Granary

I was excited to visit the granary today while I was in Norfolk. As a kid, I used to come and eat here with my grandma. It's been many years since I've been back, and I was so sad to see that they really haven't kept the restaurant up very well. While traveling on business, I thought I would grab some lunch and work on a project. A hostess offered to seat me, but became quickly confused about exactly where to put me and we ended up walking to several areas of the restaurant that had empty tables before she was able to get some assistance and find the right booth for me to sit in. Unfortunately, they do not have Wi-Fi so I wasn't able to stay.I would have ordered their classic "French Cheesy" sandwich which sells for only $4.50 (it is sold a la carte, as all of the sandwiches are). Much of the menu is fried, although they do offer a salad. I choose to keep my nice memories of the granary as a fun, family-friendly place to eat. I was really sad to see that it had aged so much. I hope that it's current owners, or anyone who takes it over in the future will opt to redo the interior & give it the love that it needs. It's meant to feel warm and homey. This has definitely been a treasured restaurant in Norfolk for many years and it deserves to be taken care of.

Great service, cheap food nothing too fancy pretty straightforward. Home style cooking with a old fashioned atmosphere, usually packed midday.

I normally don't have any issues with this place but I had an order to go the girl at the desk to check you out was SWAMPED literally running back and forth putting orders in and checking people out so the one lady stepped in to help while she was putting a to go order in I said I had an order to go and she looked me in the face and said we'll I'm going to get the people behind you because this isn't my job I'm just helping I'm just taking the money. So I waited and she had so much sass towards to women she was "helping" that it was rude. Then I get back to my school and I find a hair in my food very

Home style cooking. Nothing fancy, but food was good and value even better!

Seated fast. Served fast. Food out fast. Food was DELICIOUS. Personally i got the chicken friend steak and mashed potatoes. Weather you want a hearty meal or a light meal its the perfect place. 100% recommend

Second time we have eaten here. Visitors to area. First time was a couple of years ago. Everything was great. This time it wasn't. Ordered soup extra hot. Came out perfect. Ordered 1/2 lb hamburger discussion in depth about rare hamburger. Server even jokingly said "mooing" I agreed. Burger arrived I cut it in half it was cooked to well done. Called the waitress over to show her she stated " that's not rare". Duh. Offered to replace it I declined I will point out when orders are not correct but will not return food nor get something in place of. Trust is an issue for me in a restaurant and I don't believe in wasting food. I ate Half because I am a diabetic and was hungry took the other half home hubby he ate the other half. Slip had the order clearly written rare how can a chef screw up a rare hamburger. Will not return there on my next visit. It's too bad because first time we were pleased. Clean Nicely decorated but many other choices in area. 50% pleased is not acceptable

Ambiance- well it is dirty, uncleaned, dusty and grungy. From ledges to the menus and the tables, extremely nasty but better than the staff.Food-well it has overall improved from a year ago. Fresh, generous portions at reasonable prices. Unfortunately when a sit down(no drive thru) cant provide glass glasses, it might as well be a mcd;s or bk. Service- is disgusting and the staff is even worse. Extremely large woman with a gigantic belly hanging over her men's gym shorts and a sloppy grey t-shirt, and hair not even pulled back. One looks like she belongs in a tattoo parlor with head shaved on the sides to show off even more class. The original owner is likely rolling in his grave, they prided themselves on neat, clean and pleasant looking staff. Our waitress was carrying my pie and a bus tub....yum yum. Shanna looks like a poster child for how not to make yourself presentable, frumpy, dumpy and ungroomed. Wont go back no matter how okay the food is, the staff left me gagging.

amazing food if you like fish id recommend the rainbow trout im impressed plus the service was pretty good to

Some nice people work here - which means a lot. Very reasonable prices, but you do get what you pay for. Salad and salad dressing was old (I don't know how to explain it otherwise), entrees were fair - but be aware that the primary cooking method here is fried. Pie used canned fruit - which always leads to a gloppy outcome. I can't recommend it - but I do appreciate the efforts of the waitstaff.

Food was good. Waitress was very nice. But the host that set us she didn't say for us to follow her . She just set menus downs very rude person Shannon was her name.and the person at the register tgat took are money he acted like it was so hard to do . Breathing heavy Sheri the waitress was good
